Thank yhou! I have a 2001 Suburban in Green and it's also got 320,000 miles on it with most miles touring Mexico. Today, I have the car in Mexico getting a new paint job given it's an Arizona car with some sun damage. The 5.3 engine doesn't use a drop of oil on large trips, so that's unusual. I am upgrading the interior. With these you can feel the road, but the newer ones you are more divorsed from the road, so I'm staying with this older style as I move to Mexico - great because I travel with the two dogs.

@@tommyistommy My Suburban is outstanding and very, very reliable. I rarely have an issue, but when I do if I'm traveling in the depth of Mexico there's ALWAYS mechanics that can work on the car. Once, in Guanjuato, I was able to replace the water pump quickly and economically. Moreover, I also have an 06 GMC Envoy Denali with the 5.3 V8 and it's required a lot more maintainence - I've rebuilt the entire vehicle so it's fine for another 100K miles and GM did a good job on this car giving it an aluminum head and durable enterior, too. I have 200k miles on it, but it drives like a sports car. Americans should stick with their old cars, because the new cars are built for the government and NOT for the people.

I have issues with brand new vehicles during my rental for the week...I could not imagine owning one personally. Exactly and the newest ones are totally strange with more electronics and there's not even a rear axil - I don't see these new suburbans lasting very long and the maintenance will kill you, so it's so much better to have those olders ones that are so reliable. It's better to have an older car in Mexico to keep a low profile. I just paid $150 for a new headliner installed in Mexico - they didn't do the visors yet, but they had excellent material and refused to use the cheap Amazon material.

I never really understood the draw when these were available and only got more affordable over the years. You are absolutely right about many of these cars being in rough shape. I spent years searching for a 98-02 LS TA and couldn't find one that was worth spending good money on. I decided to try my luck on finding a well maintained V6 Firebird. I got pretty lucky. Two years ago just 40 mins from where I live, I found a loaded, bright red, t-top, garage queen, 1998 Firebird, W68 with the Y87 performance package. I didn't even know that was a thing. The guy I bought it from kept it in a climate controlled garage for over 20 years. There's zero rust on the car, the leather seats look and smell new, no door panel not dashboard cracks, and the paint is a 9 out of 10, due to a few small road chips on the hood. There's no swirl marks on the car, as the guy only washed it once the entire time he owned it...and that was the day I bought it from him. I'd love a WS.6 LS TA, but I honestly can't complain about what I got.
