IDK if I'd necessarily call this a "scam". It seems more like someone just making some extra money on the side. Of course no one is gonna offer you the same kind of service as others for a lower price. You even said yourself, you got what you paid for. The only thing about it that was "scammy" is changing the agreed upon price. That's one thing that never sits well with me. But it could've been far worse. Regardless, if someone offers you a chance to "skip the line", there's usually some sort of catch. I honestly don't mind people making money on the side, but I want to know exactly what I'm getting, and don't try to change the deal.

I noticed in March that the Thu Bon river water is looking the cleanest it has in years. Except downstream where all those lanterns go, littering the banks and fouling the water. Please practice responsible tourism.

The food looks impressive, the cruise adventure fun, but the price …

Four of us were also scammed in Hanoi by a taxi driver. We negotiated a fare to be brought to a mall 30 minutes away. He took our money and drop us off to a mall not even within 6 minutes drive. I hope Vietnamese government can do something about it. Tourism is booming in the country. Bad experiences like these are not good at all.😢
