what was the cause for the lifter tick?
Number 5 piston has a chunk missing out of the edge by the upper ring. I endoscope the driver side pistons and found the problem! Need to pull engine and tear down to see if block is save-able or if scratches are too deep due to the damaged piston.
@@doctube2020wow! i am curious how a compression test would look on that cylinder
@0125FordBronco it’s amazing how well it runs with that damage. It’s a very small part of the piston that excited the chamber. Maybe size of your finger tip bit enough that the piston slaps the cylinder. I’ll do a video soon once it warms up. Engine has great power and idles smooth but noticeable blow by out the breather at 3k+ rpm and of course the tapping/ rattling. I’ve stopped driving it once I found the damage.
Did you use stock y pipe
Used a larger aftermarket y pipe from flowmaster which is discontinued now but you could use a y pipe from a 2500 / 3500 truck since they were larger than the 1500 y pipes.
@ could I use the jegs

Great demonstration and vid quality thanks
Thanks for watching! Working on putting Sniper 2 EFI on the k10. Video coming once it’s installed.
Why did u take traction control off?
Turning TC off is commonly done when doing 0-60 or you want the most power available. If TC detects wheel slip it will pull power from the ECM / PCM while it try’s to regain traction. Even though this is AWD if stabilitrack detect wheel slip it pulls power to keep the vehicle as stable as possible.
@@doctube2020 Great explanation..thanks

New subscriber here, like your gmt400 vids, did you ever find a suitable blue tooth adapter to work with the Delco cd unit ? And if so does it support hands free calling ? Also what carpet dash topper are you using ? Looks nice. Thx GB
Thanks for subscribing! I’m just using a cheap Scosche BTFM9 FM modulator. It supports hands free calling but I just use it for music. You will get less radio interference if you choose the lowest frequencies 88.1-89.9. Also if you don’t listen to radio, don’t screw in your antenna and you won’t get random interference on long road trips. We bought the dash mat when truck was new in ‘97. I’ll have to see if it still has the manufacturer on it next time I’m in the truck.
@@doctube2020thanks for your reply especially the tip about the antenna removal.

😬 thats def internal sounds like rod knock is developing could be lifters but i doubt good idea to check exhaust manifolds for leaks aswell
I’ll have to remove the driver side valve cover and see what I can see. Seems top end to me and I’d rather have that than rod knock! Odd it doesn’t happen when cold but once up to temperature you really hear it. Running 10-40 now. Guess I could try a can of engine restore or motor honey to try and quiet it down.

Do a 0411 swap that cheap black box with the pcm from 00-02 Chevy van And redo L31 tune Delete vats Disable that 5800 rpm range to wide open And a million other things can be tuned. The black box is limited it’l wake up big time
First you need lextech email because it's a fuckin national secret
Out of all the mods I’ve done to my 98, 0411 swap is definitely worth it and cost way less than a tune from black bear. Only speaking from my own experience with them, but I was not at all impressed. Waste of money!!
Personally, I do prefer the cluster red background over the blue
2016 GM changed GMC backlight from red to blue. Chevrolet was always blue backlight for this generation.
Shoot I’d let that baby rev up to 5 before shifts! Sounded like it wanted more rpm
You are correct it could use more rpm before it shifts. New engine max hp is at 5700 rpm. The ol Turbo 350 has the stock shift points but i've been researching that if I grind off some of the govener weights on the trans, that should raise the shift points. When it gets above freezing this spring i'll give that a try and do another video. Cheers
@@doctube2020 yes and an adjustable shift modulator will also help it shift at a higher rpm at lower throttle inputs
They make a smaller oil filter, I used to have the same problem with my 454
I actually just got an obs vortec that had Been turned into a 383 stroker by the old owner any advice on tunes/timing
I've had a good experience with blackbeartuning. I've noticed a bigger difference with their tune vs a off the shelf tuner you order like hypertech.
Pcmperformance is also a good place to consider. You should do a 0411 pcm swap
Never will understand why people use BlackBear for these trucks. About the same as using Brian Harris for a TBI. I give your 4L60E about 10K miles or less before it fails.
I didn’t like black bear in general just speaking with them first and only time there sketch about everything.. what’s your qualms with them?
Never will understand what idiots like you do to a 4l60 to make it stb at 10k miles lmao
Thanks for not LS swapping like so many people do.
Thanks! I recently aquired the 03 suburban on my channel with 5.3. I perfer the ol vortec small block for towing my 3500lb enclosed trailer. The 5.7 small block stays in a higher gear longer than the 5.3. The 5.3 doesn't really come alive until high rpm. The 5.7 sbc kind of falls off over 4k rpm but has more torque down low.
Amen to that 🤘😎
Your Chevy sounds wayyy better with the Vibrant. 👏🏽
Thanks! I didn't hate it without the resonators, was just getting tired of all the chop and harshness at idle and low to mid throttle. The resonators cleaned it up and gave it some manners.
@@doctube2020 yeah it sounds really really good.
Definitely more civilized with the Vibrant. I put the Vibrant on my F250 7.3L V8 and it compressed the sound while leaving the growl. At highway speeds it killed a lot of the drone.
Nice! What year? Any other exhaust mods?
@@doctube2020 it’s a 2023 with a MBRP 4in Catback Exhaust.
How did your fuel economy change when adding the new exhaust and near tuning?? Cheers Dino
It’s about the same but I can get 17-18 if I drive 65 on the highway. In theory it should slightly increase mpg since the tune maxes out ignition timing amongst other improvements like less torque management = more power to the wheels.
Denali's were standard AWD and 6.0L but you could opt out. Ive seen rwd variants as well as 5.3L's. Same thing with the escalade. Ive never seen the 4.8 in a denali or escalade, but i dont think its farfetched that some could have been built with them
I've only seen 5.3 Denali's in newer trucks like 2014+.
All of the denalis were not AWD
Man it needs a Corvette servo to fix that sluggish shifting. I never thought mine sucked till the trans went out and when I got it rebuilt I put one in, and now WOT slams through the gears. Mostly 1-2 and 2-3. It’s definitely worth it
I’ve thought about doing the servo mod but don’t want to kill the original trans with over 218k on it. The tune firmed up the shifts but compared to the newly rebuilt trans in my 03 suburban the high mileage trans in this truck does shift soft.
@@doctube2020 The servo will do the opposite of killing it. The “soft” shifting it does now is what’s wearing it out. The servo will provide better apply pressure, which means there’s less time of “slipping” inside the trans prolonging the life. It doesn’t shift “crazy hard” until like WIDE open if you’re going through the gears. It’s easy to cruise around with too!
@@doctube2020 Yes get a servo 2nd is enough. Do 4th when you rebuild if you ever do. Performance tech btw. I own a 98 with a built 4l60e
Is it ok to tow with a servo? I occasionally tow my enclosed trailer that weighs 3.5 - 4k lbs.
@@doctube2020 Yes be even better because when it shifts it will have more holding power in gears. Aka you can tow more before you burn up transmission clutches. And transmission will also last longer.
Nice ride, but the engine cover is from the Escalade, not the 6,0. The 6,0 and the 5,3 is similar. Nitpicking, but just wanted to throw it out there…😊
This engine cover is from a Yukon xl Denali but you’re right the Escalade has the same engine covers.
I have a 2003 Suburban 2500 with the 6,0. I have the exact same cluster as you, with the transmission temperature gage. Nice ride btw.
Thanks! Nice! Wish I had the 6.0 but the black bear tune really woke up the 5.3. Magnaflow muffler and afe intake helped a bit too but there’s no replacement for displacement! Well, maybe a turbo or supercharger lol. LS engines especially the ones without AFM are super reliable though.
I’m pretty ignorant about the subject, but I’ve heard that the tcases on these are junk, and this is coming from a master tech & a GM enthusiast I know. Is this true, or are they failure-prone due to lack of proper maintenance at regular intervals? Would really like to get one of these but I’m afraid of tcase issues.
Google GM transfer case pump rub. It’s a well publicized issue but remember GM cranked out Millions of these SUVs and trucks. People come to the internet to complain. Yes it can be an issue but it’s not a guaranteed problem in every one. I have an 03 suburban with 177k on it. No issues with transfer case or front / rear differential. GM used a few different transfer cases and they take different fluid depending on which case you have. The AWD Yukon takes normal Dex/merc ATF. My suburban has a selectable 2hi, 4hi, 4lo and auto mode transfer case. You must use the blue GM fluid for autotrac transfer case. If you’re thinking of buying any used vehicle take it to a trusted mechanic and have them go over the vehicle. If the seller won’t allow this or wants you to use their mechanic that’s a red flag and walk away.
@@doctube2020 thanks for the detailed response, I appreciate it. I had a navy blue ‘01 Silverado 1500 z71 with the 4-button tcase with auto, 2-hi, 4-hi & 4-lo and never had an issue other than the 4l60e starting to slip when moving from a stop towards the end of my ownership of it (had about 180,000). Anyway, I drove it from the twin cities of MN to Wichita, KS, back again & half way back again 6 months later, and a few times in Kansas before selling it, and for a (then) 17+ y/o truck it did pretty darn good, other than an alternator that happened to wait to go out until during my road trip, as well as typical rust (which was actually pretty clean for MN standards). Anyway, long story short, I love these trucks & would love the Denali for light-medium-duty towing. Quadrasteer Sierra/Yukon Denali/Silverado/Suburban would be amazing!
i just had my 05 xl Denali serviced for the pump rub, only had 149k miles when i picked it up
@DURAOBEATS No leak? Just preventative?
@@doctube2020 the transfer case was getting overfilled and the transmission was low

Which one of your trucks do think is tge fastest? Which one has yhe best power?
The 97 k1500 was faster than 79 K10 before I put new blueprint engine in. Now 79 K10 is faster than 97 even with the old 3 speed auto. Of course the 2018 Sierra beats them all with 6.2L and 8 speed auto.
Nice trick buddy.
Thanks 👍
I would recommend adding a new oil pump to the mix 40 at 5800 rpm is a tad insufficient. Just my 2 cents
Good eye, I remember it going higher than 40psi in the past. I’m going to try a new oil pressure sensor first. I’ll also check the gauge with my odb2 scanner to see if it matches
Update: I replaced the oil pressure sensor and it now shows about 55 - 60 psi at high RPM. The old sensor was accurate when cold oil temps but when warm it wouldn’t go past 40psi. The old sensor broke in half when I removed it but it’s 26 years old.
@@doctube2020Delete the oil cooler lines from the truck off the radiator and remove the housing above the oil filter and bypass it with a melling oil filter adapter !! You’ll gain a ton of oil pressure. They claim you need them lines for towing but it’s subject to opinion everyone deletes them they always end up leaking …. No one’s truck oil is any the bit cooler with them bulky lines in the way , it’s a myth in my opinion. I’ve had great experience bypassing them on all my Chevy. If that was a 2500/3500 series Obs Tow rig then I’d say keep them but I’m a believe in the 1500s there useless
Nice truck. I have a 99 suburban in similar shape. Small world.. I live in flagstaff

Does the odometer lights like blue or green? Did you change the color or the z71 comes with this color? Because i saw the normal suburban as this year lights like yellow
Instrument cluster lights are original color. Chevrolet and GMC standard backlight is white for gauges, green for DIC (odometer). If you have a Denali or escalade, gauge backlight was a light blue and DIC odometer is still green.

Wow that’s great! What have you had to replace or repair during that many miles?
@Mikey-Best wow that’s great! What have you had to replace or repair during that many miles?
@@doctube2020I picked up my 05 Burb Z71 in 2022 for $2,300. It had 350k+ miles on original motor, and the trans was rebuilt prior to my purchase. I've done regular maintenance, changed one wheel hub and new tires. Will get new engine in future. Torn on 5.3L or 6.0, I'm seeing people say the 6.0 has too much torque for the factory trans. Idk, when it was rebuilt if they upgraded it or not, my guess would be probably not. So if I baby it and don't drive like a dummy, the trans may last with the stronger 6.0. I do plan on doing long distance towing with the vehicle and it did come with trailer brake installed already . Now it's still
