Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski: New Priorities for North Macedonia
After seven years in opposition, VMRO-DPMNE swept into power following elections last month. With the new government sworn in, it's time to ask: how will new Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski, along with his coalition partners, use their substantial governing majority?
On Monday, July 8, 2024, FPI SAIS hosted Mr. Mickoski in his first public appearance in the US as Prime Minister. In conversation with Senior Fellow Edward P. Joseph, as he set out his vision and priorities for North Macedonia.
This event represents a rare opportunity to hear this emerging leader set out his reform plan and priorities including the fight against corruption and for rule of law, wider judicial reform, energy policy, and improvement in the business and investment climate. On the eve of the NATO's 75th Anniversary Summit, Prime Minister Mickoski shared his vision for the Macedonian contribution to the Alliance - and Skopje's Strategic Dialogue with Washington - as geopolitical threats continue to mount. The Prime Minister also shared his way forward for North Macedonia's EU accession process.

He Mr. Principles.. what did the American Secretary of State Edward Stettinius mean by the 1944 words? "The Department has noted with considerable apprehension increasing propaganda rumors and semi-official statements in favor of an autonomous Macedonia, emanating principally from Bulgaria, but also from Yugoslav Partisan and other sources, with the implication that Greek territory would be included in the projected state. This (US) Government considers talk of Macedonian "nation", Macedonian "Fatherland", or Macedonia "national consciousness" to be unjustified demagoguery representing no ethnic nor political reality, and sees in its present revival a possible cloak for aggressive intentions against Greece." U.S State Department Foreign Relations Vol. VIII Washington D.C. Circular Airgram - 868.014/26 Dec. 1944)

The former Yugoslavians bizarrely try to narrate themselves into apparently antihellenic founders of the Hellenistic period... .use that to promote irredentism against Greece... while bigotted fraudster Edward P. Joseph not only looked the other way but lobbied for these fanatics. Now he's doing the same thing to Bulgarians. Edwards P. Joseph is a bs artist that manipulates human rights lingo to push extreme nationalism. The Greek, and Bulgarian government need to call out this lying -sshole.

Love how you censored my comment pointing out Joseph is a racist liar that shamelessly supports extreme nationalists in the former Yugoslavia. I thought you guys claimed to stand for "freedom"? So much for free speech

Mr. Joseph is a shameless, racist, liar. He supports former Yugoslavian "Macedonian" nationalist extremists as they bizarrely try to steal both Bulgarian and Greek history. He takes a blind eye as VMRO ultra-nationalists as they promote what they call "United Macedonia" which allegedly includes parts of Greece, Bulgaria and Albania. Edwards also unethically hides that they not only used to call themselves Bulgarians prior to Yugoslav communists but that the American government itself refused to recognize them as "Macedonians" during the early cold war. Long "forgotten" by Joseph, America militarily backed Greece against Yugoslavians communists who invented "Macedonians" out of ethnic Bulgarians living in Vardar. Long "forgotten" by Mr. Joseph, the purely "Macedonian" identity stripped of ethnic Bulgarian context was created by Yugoslav communists who suppressing Bulgarian identity in Vardar in retribution for Bulgaria's support for Axis). Joseph loves giving patronizing lectures on Benedict Anderson's "imagined communities" for other people in other states' identities.... but then the unprincipled fraud changes tune with his own identity when the hypocrite has less in common with his claimed roots than those he pretentiously lectures. Do as I say. Not as I do.
