เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 6 พ.ค. 2022
Hi, I'm Thirsty John from gardengrowgood.com. The aim of this channel is to help gardeners to fill their garden with plants "on the cheap". I will show you how to easily propagate plants from cuttings, seeds and root stocks which you will often be able to obtain for free. But remember you must always ask for permission from the owner bebore you "yamma" seeds or cuttings 🙄.

Japanese Barberry is a shrub that is found in many parks and gardens in temperate climates of Northern Europe, North America and Asia. From a cutting, it is very easy to grow, but you will need to check if it is classed as invasive where you live.

THANK YOU so much ... I was able to successfully light my heater with your instructions
My brother has arachnophobia if he sees that well it’s over for him
What’s the charcoal for?
❤ Super ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thanks for your very interesting video. Have you been successful? Did the cuttings get roots?
very nice! i follow Greenhouse eduction in Nederlands. and my teacher said its almost imposible to clone Magnolia. so ofcourse imma prove him wrong, thanks to this vid
Hi! Thank you for this. Does the same propegation technique apply to the dracena cane plant?
Very helpful John. Will let you know if my cuttings are successful. 😁👍
Fantastic job, thanks
Hi John, thanks for this video, very informative. I had tried, a few moths ago, to grow dracaena stems by placing them in water, but failed more than once; no roots ever grew. So I welcome this method. I've just followed all the instructions you have mentioned here, and I've got two stems planted. Thanks for the tip of putting stones to hold the stems in place, very useful. I just wonder now how often to water them. I would be very grateful if someone could tell me, as I don’t want to fail again at growing this plant.
Hi Liza, The trick is to not let them dry out but at the same time not overwater or the stem will rot, water the pot and let it drain for a few days, then put the pot in a polythene bag and use a rubber band to seal it over the BOTTOM of the stem. Also, as with any cutting is a battle between the roots and foliage so make sure you have only one or two leaves on the plant, these can be reduced even further by snipping them in half. Good luck
@@gardengrowgood Thank you very much for this additional information 😊
I can't hear you very well and have my speakers all the way up.
Hi, could I just plant these straight into the ground?
Yes, but you must water them daily, especially in dry weather.
Hi i know this is a old video but i took several cuttings of this tree, plant that will be dug up to build industrial units on it.had no idea how to get cuttings of this.its now late July, not seen any sprouts on the ground wise.was just me talking branches of to try and grow.anytips as they will digitup and dump this beautiful tree .it's as you know July .i have one growing a bit the rest have died off tips please before they dig this this beautiful one up xx
Look for and take cuttings of semi-hard growth, these are your best bet. Don't let them dry out and spray them with tap water daily.
Ground layering :) works great with weeping or pendulums forms.
So your doin whats called an Air Layer purdy much.
Ingenious method 👏👏
Thank you very much for taking the trouble to show this.
Thank you for this, no nonsense waffle free demonstration, the glimpse of your garden is delightful and beautifully situated!
This plant is illegal in NJ and most of the Northeast. VERY invasive. A wildlife killer.
Good job he’s in England!
I am trying to grow a magnolia tree from a clipping but it is getting mold on the leaves. Is this to be expected?
Did it worK? Did you grow more Magnolia trees from your clippings?
They were doing well, but then I went on holiday for a couple of weeks and they dried out. However, the one I did in my other video using the "pindown" method is doing very well but looks a bit of an odd shape lol.
I tries this systeem more than 20 times. It does not work.
Did any roots grow at all? The time when the cuttings are at their weakest and likely to die is in early spring, they need to be given a little shelter at this time.
Thank you for your amazing videos. could you please tell me if I could use sheep manure compost or seafood compost for this mix?
just use all purpose compost, barberry cuttings accept almost any soil.
Is that possible for saucer magnolia?
Yes, give it a go. or try the pin down method.
I didn't know I could use charcoal for that. I'll add some leftover coal to my cactus later today. This was a pretty interesting find, thanks!
Leave an inch from the top for what??
Never fill a pot to the top with soil, always allow room to water it. Also as the roots grow the soil will rise.
❤️
I put one outside hoping to bring the crows, I hope they notice it.
I gave them an out-of-date bag of frozen chicken nuggets today. They were gone in two minutes.
Very helpful, thank you.
Excellent instructions
What are you scratching the stem for..I have a few red robins and I want to know how to get them to bush out should I be clipping them at the top?
Short and too the point great video.
Good info
Thank you! Accidentally broke a branch off and now I’m planning to have two!
Perfect! Thank you 😊
Strawberry style. Probably needs to have very good contact and be always wet I don’t know if that is the best pot if it’s going to house pretty much nothing
Thanks, great explanations ❤
Planing to cut down my magnolia, was going to try and save it, but it's in a bad spot for my new projects. Was going to take as many cuttings as I can first and see if I can clone it, would move it, but it's far too big
Good idea. I wonder if this will work on my strawberries 🤔
If your soil is ericaceous (acidic) strawberries will propagate themselves very easily, in fact, you will end up pulling them up like weeds.
I wonder if the different species are harder/easier? I haven't succeeded with Magnolia grandiflora, but I did cuttings of my mom's Magnolia stellata when she moved (I would have dug it for her, but it was too big) and that one worked fine.
🤣🤣🤣❤️🤗
The skateboard, unbelievable! I never thought of that.
Could I do this same process on a potted canary date palm (outdoor) as I want to put into a bigger but slightly shorter pot than it’s already in?
Thanks for the video! How well does it propagate with winter cuttings? Thanks
Late summer or early autumn is the best time to propagate pyracantha, having said that it is a very robust plant so a winter cutting might work if you can find a branch that is still semi-ripe.
@@gardengrowgood thanks I’ll give it a try but looking forward to the warmer weather and giving the summer cuttings a try!
Zobaczę za trzy miesiące czy mówisz prawdę .
Such majestic birds. And wise - I love how indirect the approach was for some. Would love a series of bird-feeding videos. Beautiful surroundings you’ve got there & a great camera. Thanks for feeding them and for sharing the footage!
As a Central Florida grower of Phoenix palm species for over 40 years, I concur in that it is possible to severely root prune these palms and successfully transplant them. They're pretty tough. I have yet to lose even one; even after digging them from the ground or from extremely root-bound in cracked plastic containers and chopping the roots back with a sharp machete. I was once "gifted" a C.I.D. palm that was about 6' OA height and was missing about a third of the base or the "nut" as many palm diggers say in CFL. Despite my doubts about its potential survival, it did survive and thrive. About five years later, I was able to sell the palm for a nice profit. Nevertheless, IMHO, it would be better to re-pot the palm shown in the video into a larger container to achieve better growth and reduce the frequency of transplanting. I also like to tie the leaves in order to give a little more stability to the bud. Once I see the central-leaf spear has pushed out a bit, (usually after two-three months) I'll then untie the fronds. Happy planting!
Why be so mean, it’s sad what the world has become
Beautiful cactus 🌵
It aint your cactus
