Long time MTB rider still trying to learn new tricks. I won't be earning any KOM's (and don't even try), but I enjoy trying new challenging trails. I spend most my time in Sedona and the Phoenix AZ area. And while I won't be blowing down the trail, I try to provide video that shows the trail, the scenery, and the experience.

The Hawes Trail Alliance brings us Big Sister; one of the newest, funnest, and flowiest trails in the Hawes network. Too soon to say it's is one of the best mountain biking trails in Mesa? Certainly a fun spot to hit if you are looking to do some MTB in Phoenix. Most Hawes Trails don't have the kickers and downhill flow aspects of Utah riding, but this one will give you a taste. Ready to visit Sedona? Not interested in riding with the crowds? Not ready to conquer the double blacks? Ground control is an fun, quick, black rated trail that can be added as a detour to several other trails on the west side. If you are close to this trail, don't miss it! Blowhard Trail in Brianhead, UT. One of the funnest non-lift rides in southern UT.

At over 10k above sea level, breathing can be a little difficult for us Arizonian's. Fortunately, blowhard trail is almost exclusively downhill- about 3,500 feet of descent over 6.5 miles. If you are in the Southern Utah and just want some fun, natural downhill (no jumps), this is a great shuttle ride. Are there other awesome trails in southern UT? Yes! This area is certainly a destination spot...
First time ebiking. Can't deny that it was a lot of fun.

Trying out an eMTB for the first time on the Hawes trail network. As a one time ebike hater, I thought it was time get some first hand experience... and, not surprising, riding an ebike is a whole lot of fun. In 2.5 hours I was able to ride 21 mile and about 2,700 feet of elevation. It's a great way to enjoy the biking trails in Mesa just keep in mind that others have the right of way. www.trai...

How to change a tubeless mtb tire. Don't pay a shop to change your tubeless tires.
มุมมอง 2923 ปีที่แล้ว
I started riding tubeless tires about 2 years ago and it was a bit of an adjustment. While tubeless is great for AZ desert riding, I didn't have a clue how to change the tire or what to do with the sealant. In fact, I still have sealant splattered on my garage ceiling from when I over inflated my tire and it, "blew up". This video provides the basics on changing a tubeless mtb tire. This is a p...

Mountain Biking Tutorial. How to ride down steep, loose sections of trail.

A specific piece of the Upper Secret Trail (In the Hawes Trail System), has an unnamed downhill section (just before you get to Secret) that is frequently walked. What does 50 look like for a mountain biker? My 50th on Zen in St. George, UT.
มุมมอง 8353 ปีที่แล้ว
When I was in my 20's I was confident that life ended at about 35. And if you asked me what 50 would look like I probably would have described a scene from a nursing home. At the time, I had no idea the influence that biking would have on me. And, at age 50, I would be riding Zen in St. George, UT. What your life looks like at age 50 is largely influenced by what you do in your 30's and 40's. H...
Iron Goat (with the alt line) and Ovaries: maybe the best (non-jump) tech MTB downhill at Hawes.
มุมมอง 1.7K3 ปีที่แล้ว
Iron Goat is one of the newest additions to the Hawes Trail Network (Jan 2021). There's one techy alt line that's a little trickier than the rest of the trail. Overall, it's a fun little downhill with a couple of jumps for the more experienced MTB'rs with alternate lines for the mellow crowd. Connect this trail with Wildhorse or Highridge for a longer adventure. Add Ovaries to the end of the li...

Imagine having an ego so fragile it can be compromised by a stool.
Excellent advice sir. Living in Sedona and being a beginner at mtbing, I'm finding many of the trails challenging. Getting out there is the most important thing. Remember to bring plenty of water, even in the winter months.

I have been un-sissified (Doc Holiday voice). I thank you kindly.
Just use a fold up 2 step stool. Dosent take up much space in your vehicle.
Rhanks so much! Im short and this helped
Hey Mike, Awesome video and this is really what is needed for so many of us, just good solid riding. The drone shots earned the subscription. Thanks for putting this one out! What four trails were you on at 0:40, 0:58, 1:15 and 1:37 please? After seeing your video, I'm now wanting to do them.
:40, 1:15 are Hiline, :58, 1:37 are Hangover. Just added for the narration, but not blue rides... both have some really technical areas... but very fun if you are a little more advanced. First time I rode both trails I did a bit of walking, but now they are my go-to whenever I hit sedona.
This is not a tall SUV
be careful folks. I dinged my brand new SUV doing this with my disc brake disc costing me hundreds of $$ to fix. please use a step up stool. I went to REI and learnt the proper way of loading using a 2-3 step stool.
Thanks Mike! I bought a sissy stool and don’t want to use it. I’ll try your technique in the morning. 🚴 ✌🏼
Good ideas but I don't think it would not work for a woman... so I would use a sissy stool 🙂
Wow im trying to do this with the Heavy electric bikes i diy built on my channel. I don think i would survive.
Thanks!!! Riding by myself i find that riding below my limits more often than not is the best medicine for getting home alive. Thanks for the info!
Thanks and nicely done!
Rode this trail for the first time today and… I walked the gulch 😂. The camera does not do it justice. Maybe a few more rides down saddle and I’ll get the guts to roll through it
I am 100% If u can't ride it learn to or DON'T but DO not modify a trail to make it easier for you the trail is the TRAIL ...I will remove these features if i see them it is irresponsible to adapt a trail that you can't fully do just so you can have flow....you do NO one any favors by making cheat lines just ruining a great feature !!1
Strong work, man! Some of the best shots of sunset ridge that actually show a bit of how gnarly it is. 💯🤘
He makes this look easy, it’s actually hard and scary as hell. I walked my bike most of this trail - it’s a long ways down.
Do you have someone who pilots the drone or does it just follow you?
This is the Skydio drone and it follows on it's own. It still requires that you frame the shot, move the drone to the right location, and occasionally stop to get the drone back on track. But not too bad for solo recording. It also requires quite a bit of editing to get any close up shots. And, as you can see, I'm still learning how to get the color correction right:)
subscribed. @ridealongside sent me over.
Thanks for sharing. I don't quite understand your route. We are considering riding this trail soon. Did you park at Snowbowl and then ride North to the end of this section then back down south all the way 12 miles then back up to the parking lot?
Nice. Do you have a route mapped out in TrailForks for these areas?
I'd love to connect!
My cuz and I hit Deadman's Gulch yesterday and nailed it. The line to the left is WAY more challenging than the Gulch. I think it really is a visual thing; it looks scary, but it's not. There are plenty of other drops and rollers on the west side of Hawes that are technically more difficult than the Gulch but they are wide open with any number of good lines and riders hit them successfully evruh dang day. The line pointed out in this video is probably the best, but if you roll on the right a bit there is another interesting line. All that being said, the Hawes Trail Alliance has been doing a lot of work on this feature and it looks like it might be starting to crumble.
First rode there in 1986, no trails, just a bushwhack out to the rim.
I was one day away from buying a stool. Thanks for saving me the ridicule. Hahaha!
Your video may have some a few people some scratches on their car! Thanks for looking out for everyone!

As a seasoned mtb'er since the 90's the extreme nature of the modern era leaves me feeling being an intermediate being grounded to what mtbing is suppose to be....thanks for posting "real world" Sedona MTB trails.....how busy are these trails during the weekdays?
Monday is probably the least crowded day. But most week days are alright. The area across the road from the high school is almost always calm once you get 10 minutes from the trailhead.
Fun video, but the reality is almost all trails in Sedona are intermediate. There are some great suggestions, but really you can point anywhere and ride blue/ green trails all day.
That trail is definitely not an easy one to clean.
Can you do this on a 27.5 hardtail?
I first started riding National on a 26" hardtail with bar-ends. So yes. A lot of the tech is easier on a hardtail in my opinion.
Intermediate trails in Sedona. First two minutes of footage are double blacks.
Cool but lose the music.
Beautiful landscape!
Those couple of "whows" are a worry. Easy to see the roof getting gouged.
3:07 Try doing this after a day of riding and you'll throw it right through the back window of the leaf...🤣🤣
I rode "Goose" for the first time in 1997...with Mike and Morgan Harris, the two brothers who scouted and created the incredible route around Gooseberry Mesa. For 10 years, a friend and I rode the mesa twice each year, March and October... and often with Morgan. This year, 2022, in October, I rode again on the mesa. Your wonderful vid shows several of the hardest section on the South Rim. It was great fun watching you work out the lines. You made it look really fun... and it reminded me of the days when we did the same. Thank you!!!
vi dos potenciales momento en los q se le pudo caer la bici en el techo o encima de el. creo q optare por otro metodo para llevar la bici
That looks amazing! I went to Gold Canyon last weekend after watching your other video. I struggled a lot more than you did in your video 😂, but had an amazing time.
One of the least traveled MTB areas in the phx area. I love hitting it to avoid the crowds. A little skydio action th-cam.com/video/s5xnv2-2HNo/w-d-xo.html
@@MrBiketoad Amazing footage. Thanks for sharing this. I've been out at Gold Canyon a couple of times and love the challenges it offers. I have yet to make it thru HooDoo and Cajones without walking my bike in a few places :)
Enjoy your new chapter in life in AR. Look forward to your new rides. Happy trails...
Hello Mike, are you still reading and doing MTB videos? Headed home to PHX to enjoy the fall MTB'n early Nov. Enjoyed the National video and have yet rode it. Where did you park for your ride? That said, I finally began riding an E Bike. It is a BLAST!
Hey John- Actually moved to Bentonville, AR. Riding is amazing and totally different from Phx.
Excited to go in November with my bro Scott. I'm sure they'll be a lot more snow but that will make it more challenging for us.
Snow 😂
Thanks dude
LMAO. That was brutal
Mike _great video-thanks for also the concise nature of the narrative too- doing the same kinda stuff out here in SoCal....
I just switched from the rear rack to a roof, and I didn't even think about the slightly higher roof of my Crosstrek. Thanks. I definitely wasn't going to buy that dumb tire step for 80+ bucks or carry around a "sissy ladder" 😂💀
Did your wife control the drone half way thru riding through the meadows? Love that footage
Using the Skydio2 so it tracked me.
@@MrBiketoad nice!
It would be nice to hear the bike working instead of listening to music.
LMAO, using a step ladder or stool is sissy?
I’m too old for lifting 4 bikes that high, I got myself a nice hitch mount bike rack!
I guess this is a good method if you don’t mind scratching up your car.
