I have been having alot of fun on the Seaside lately, thanks Jim! Acouple weeks ago probably had my favourite surf this year on it, forgot the go pro for that session unfortunately.

Is the Firewire Seaside the perfect URBANSURF board? - 5'8 Seaside in PT session
มุมมอง 1.2K19 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
I have been surfing at URBANSURF Melbourne for a while now and have found the wave quite weak in comparison to real ocean waves witch has lead me to try flater rocker boards and wider shorter shapes. The Seaside by Firewire is not only flat and wide but it is also a Quad fin giving it shitloads of drive and hold, goes unreal in the pool, the short shape fits in well with the small face imo and ...

Does the Firewire Sunday Work In Small Waves? Crescent Head NSW
มุมมอง 90221 วันที่ผ่านมา
For the past 6 months or so I have been surfing the Sunday alot and It definately is better in small waves than other midlengths I have surfed, It isnt however a log or a glider and although it has alot of volume making it easy to catch waves it also has a decent amount of rocker allowing it to fit into the pocket of good waves but also stopping it from gliding like a log would in small waves. ...

Is This Quad Channel Twin the best board I have ever Surfed?!
มุมมอง 1.7Kหลายเดือนก่อน
One of my favourite reef breaks near home was kinda firing, not as big as it gets but pretty big for this spot, it's super protected from almost all swell directions so is usually a log spot, however the shape of the reef means you can get long fast rights when its working. Tried my friends 7'3 quad channel twin, had sooo much grip compared to my 7'0 Machado Sunday, had more rocker and sharper ...

Firewire Sunday by Rob Machado - Intermediate surfers board review
Thanks for the review, Addison. Lots of Seasides here in Denmark. Good board for smaller waves. Btw, waves in the video look fun, where are you surfing?
Whats your size and weight?
78kg 175cm
I’m definitely a fan of the seaside and it’s easy to ride esp for the older groms. Yeah I don’t take mine out on steep waves because the nose is so fat and catches. A good replacement for steep waves with the seaside feel is the slater Cymatic…Nice review 🤙🏾
Yeah definitely better options out there is its a solid hollow wave but fuck me its so good at making the weaker stuff feel fun!
I have the 6-1, and I'm 6-2. It grovels fantastic in the mushy SoCal beach break waves where I live.
I can imagine those bigger sizes would grovel insane
Great review. I agree that I was a bit oversold when it comes to the SS ability to grovel in small weak waves. Those of us on the Atlantic coast would do well to take “small wave” board advice from California shapers with a pinch of salt. IMO the only true Uber groveler is a mini Simmons. I’ve got a solid surf Bento Box, it’s 5’4” at 37l and feels like a magic carpet in mush burgers. Cheers!
Ill have to try one one day haha, I feel like every surfboard review people save it goes 1-6ft but the guy saying it is usually a pro, perhaps if ure as good as rob the seaside does grovel fantastic but Im not 🤣
Lets talk about why is it soooo expensive. I've been trying to get one but even used here in Victoria are over 800AUD
@@gian.cirone they are mega expensive, one of my mates has had like 4 warranty replacements or something because the lamination goes pink after time. They are a sick board though. Could get a new board for that locally made
@@mattobrien1085 I wanted to replicate the shape on a custom made but never head someone doing it.
Expensive compared to what? They are 1200 new? Whats a reasonable price for a new board? Got mine second hand for 600, have seen one recently for 650, I think considering the crazy construction that doesn’t have deck compressions and is light af it makes sense they are a bit pricier than ure stock standard PU shortboard but I don’t feel like they are unreasonably priced compared to other options in the market.
The fact is was Shaped by Rob is also kind of insane, how many people have hung around with Kelly in the competition, shape and sell boards anyone in the world can pick up and try?
@@AddisonRowland 1200 will get you a custom from a local crew like oke or trigger. Rob didn't personally shape every seaside, he designed the first one and they all get machine shaped and vacuum form laminated in China/thailand. I personally think new boards sub 7'0 should cap out at 1000 unless they have crazy custom sprays or lam tints or full hand shapes but mass produced boards like FireWire should be cheaper. About $250-350 of materials go into a sub 7'0 board for me to make and I'm not buying in massive bulk quantities I buy locally made foam blanks from Rosebud and resin that's made in dandenong. Not hating on the seaside at all one of my best mates surfs one and loves it and its definitely cool being able to surf the same board as your favorite pro! Nothing wrong with compressions on a surfboard, pu is vastly superior to eps in my opinion because it doesn't get waterlogged and is much nicer to shape and glass and way easier ding repairs
Thank you so much for the video it was super informative! May I ask where the surfing segments are filmed? In which country, in which city? beaches?
I am based in Melbourne Australia and most of my surfing is in Victoria, mostly the Mornington Peninsula and Phillip Island, we are very lucky and have many beautiful spots around
I'm local to you and have a crazy little 5'9 I picked up in sunny coast the home of mushy waves. It's 5'9x22 7/8 x 3 from memory and 39l. Closest I've found to replacing a longboard in mushy waves. Welcome to try it out if you want
How much do you weigh? What were you surfing before u got the seaside? Must be better than me at surfing small waves haha
I'm not talking about the seaside it's another board from a small shaper in Queensland SEA studios . I usually shape my own boards but this thing rips small waves. I'm 180cm and 100kg. My usual go to boards are a 6'3 fish or a 7'6 twin that I shaped

@@AddisonRowland what day
hey mate long time no speak, ive spent time away from the pool due to some random stuff happening but back trying to get fit again to join you guys at PT/Intermediate. I've also got a 6'8 seaside and beyond and fingers crossed i can get the paddle fitness up by nov/dec. Gonna be at cruiser tomorrow 7pm to try get the paddle fitness up. Great vid on the seaside, firewire boards always perform well at the pool!
Ay nice! Be great to see you again I might try organise another session in a couple of weeks!
@@AddisonRowland cool man keep up the content
Hey mate, was super stoked to meet you in person that day at Urbnsurf, forgot to get your autograph haha! I was on the 6'8 Seaside and Beyond and I also have a 5'7 Seaside which I haven't tried yet in PT. Will bring it out once my paddling endurance improves. Keep up the good work, these videos are great.
Thanks haha, hopefully see you again next time! Paddle fitness in the pool is intense, going to head back in a couple weeks I think
Shot out to the show 🤙
Great title
It is worth it? I guess it is if its clean and head high?
Awesome review, thank you! I too am an intermediate surfer, maybe "upper intermediate" , but I'm not so good at the late, huck-in-under-the-lip take-off on hollow waves. I am looking for a board to help me get into hollow waves early and get pitted. I'm sold on the Townsend, just not sure if I should go 6'6" or 6'8"? I'm 5'10" 155 pounds, and I only surf eave faces up to about 8-10 feet and even that is not common. Its more for the 6-8 foot face days at my local hollow beachie where I need that extra paddle power. Im thinking 6'6" because I still want to do turns and be able to duck dive, but I'm also curious about a 6'8.
Id say if your typical surf is over head hollow beachies go the 6’6, if ure looking for a step up for good hollow waves tho you might want a little more rocker than the Townsend has, hard to say without knowing your board history and what you like but either way its a great board!
This review is spot on. I love my Townsend
First 2 sessions on the sunday I've loved. I've only surfed in in shit conditions tho. I'm getting a one board quiver vibes from it so far. If it can pass the grovel test and perform in big waves i might start selling off some of my boards.
Yeah definitely could be a one board quiver for sure! In my opinion haha
Cheers, Addison. What does it weigh?
Will have to weigh it, feels very light though
@@AddisonRowland - no worries, buddy. I'll see if I can find one in the Surf Shops of El Palmar this week. Thanks again for your vids.
hey man ! glad to see the videos coming ! i dont know if you remember, i asked you if you could measure the distance between the single fin plug and tail of the sunday 😁 that would help a lot 🤙
12.5cm it looks like, from the tip of the pin tail to the start of the box, hope it helps! Sorry I forgot before
@@AddisonRowland amazing man ! helps a lot 🤙

But yes
Been a sick run of swell aye
Wild winter swell coming in right as we head into spring haha
Fuck yeah!
sick surf as always man... I wanted to know, could you measure where the single fin box is placed from the tail end ? i have been trying to find this info everywhere, i have a non single fin sunday and i will probably install a single fin box
What size Sunday do you have? Ill be back home on Tuesday Ill try remember to measure it up for you
@@AddisonRowland 7 foot, like you i think ! i will post a reminder, that would be a life savior man 👍
@@AddisonRowland hey man, checking in for the measurement 🤙🤙
Love the review man. Thanks 🔥
Great review! Which fin do you have on the center?

Awesome!
What happened to your seaside 5'5?
I swapped for a 5’8 with a friend haha
@@AddisonRowland was the 5'5 too small? I have a 5'5 too and it paddles horrific. But once on the wave its really fun. Do you find the 5'8 is still manoeuvrable?
Im 78kg, didn’t feel to small for good waves, just felt shit to paddle and yeah once ure up it was amazing, but I have a shortboard I really like for good waves and I wanted the seaside to work well in smaller waves so yeah was a bit small for small waves. The 5’8 still feels very manoeuvrable, bit harder to tip over on rail because of the width, I have a video up of me surfing it at urban you should check it out: th-cam.com/video/PiJu0F3GuKA/w-d-xo.htmlsi=YwY3ZUn8qFjeYr_e
Are you still riding the Sunday? If so how are you finding it in small waves
Yes, still riding it, will post a video talking about it later this week, it works in small waves, better than any board ive ridden thats 7’0 long or shorter but its not a longboard alternative. Works in longboard waves but but it feels slow and can be difficult to make sections and get down the line compared to a log or something longer.
PU or PE construction? Which would be better for a longer length version? Thanks.
As far as I know PE is lighter and will have more flex, I had PU and I think PU is an easier repair and less likely to get waterlogged when dinged. Either construction will be epic it depends on what you want your glider to do, if u sizing up to make it a long big board in ure quiver the weight of the PU is kinda nice to have, more momentum down the line, if ure going for more performance style turns and sizing it in that mid length range maby go with PE?
@@AddisonRowland Thought as much. Good man. Thank you!
Where is this?
Two spots are in Victoria Australia, haha
how long have you been surfing?
Was surfing a couple times a year for a few years but got more into it last year and have been surfing every week for over a year now haha
sweet waves ! any updates on the sunday as a small wave board and its paddle abilities ?
Honestly should do an update on it, I bought it as a small wave board but it kinda seems more like an all rounder. Paddles and catches waves effortlessly but its not a longboard in small waves, takes some pumping and won’t go in gutless waves. It has some rocker and a pulled in tail so this means for me it seems to go really good in quality waves waist high and bigger, could probably ride it in double overhead. I think of it more now as a super easy to surf mid, easy to catch waves, intuitive easy to ride that goes in all conditions but not a longboard replacement. Hope that helps!
@@AddisonRowland damn... another "small waves mid" that ends up being for good waves 🫠🫠 That wave chart in Firewire is a complete lie then. Theyre always like that. i went through a few of these already... last ones were Ci Tri plane Hull and Seaside and Beyond... They always love a fatter good wave. Guess a nice travel friendly longboard replacement doesnt exist unfortunately Too late since i already bought it haha thanks for the update man
Let me knock what you think! I think it goes pretty good in smaller waves but my 7’0 Sunday doesn’t go as good as my 8’0 mid glider and i doubt any 7’ board would go in smaller waves better than a flat rockered 8’ board
@@AddisonRowland makes sense. but i wonder why they dont do a flat rockered 7'0... 8'0 is entering longboard territory and so annoying to travel with. Plus if its not a small wave catch any wave board, dont advertise as it
Not head high 😂
There were a couple head high 🤣
well done mate, ive been doing a fair bit of the progressive turns myself, trying to level up to intermediate. i'll give you a wave if i see you next.
Loving PT atm such a fun wave!
@@AddisonRowland hey man i have a question for ya. im 5'10/5'11 , i weigh roughly 75/76kg and im a late beginner. if i took a 7'6 foamie out to urban surf, id catch 8/10 waves at PT, if i took out my 8 foot 60 litre torque board, id catch 6 or 7 out of 10. right now im struggling with paddle fitness but im working on it pretty hard so should be ok by spring/early summer. i wanna buy an album twinsman. im trying to learn bottom/top turns and cut backs, and i plan on spending most of my sessions on PT and Intermediate over the next few months. my question is, do you think a 6 foot twinsman is too long to perform snappy turns etc on those two waves? and that i should aim for a 5'10 or 5'11? also, would you recommend the pin tail or the original tail for a late beginner about to hit early intermediate at urbnsurf? for me its about confidence and steadyness when trying to turn. mate thanks so much any feed back would be greatly appreciated.
Woah, awesome dude, yeah paddling at urban is hectic haha I would suggest you buy something cheap in that size range before you commit to an expensive new or even used album shortboard, you could probably find a 6’0 or 6’2 shortboard for 200-300 and this would give you an idea for its going to be like to paddle and catch waves, ure dropping alot of litres going from 60L down to 38L in the 6’0 twinsman. Its hard to say without seeing you surf but I know on average everyone seems to go to small to quick, I did it, my friends have done it. Maby a mid length would be a better step down somthing like the firewire sunday, a 7’0 with 53L is gonna be manoeuvrable as heck with ure feet in the right spot. I have made this mistake before you definitely do not need a shortboard to learn turns. I really like my pintail but they are both epic shapes I guess its almost a feeling thing, witch tail shape u prefer.
@@AddisonRowland hey mate thanks so much for the reply i really appreciate it, i popped down to strapper over the weekend and had a chat with the guys down there. long story short i walked out with a dhd black diamond. tonnes of volume but a pulled in tail, ideal for learning turns. im gonna smash out as many PT/intermediate sessions as possible between now and end of October, so i'll probably update you in a few months. take it easy, and keep up the good content.
Ah nice! What are the dims?
💞Wow💞💜💜💜💜💜💜💛💜
Why didn’t you just get another with more volume
My preferred shortboard the Album Twinsman came home!
But you have 574 views in 2 days, there're tips and suggestion associated to getting more. Comfortable knowing ?
Awesome 🥰
What a dream day for any surfer
Couldn’t get over how beautiful the water was, still can’t haha
Nice no crowd.
Was so good
I want to take a picture of the scenery while surfing, how did you fix the camera? Did you wear Helmatt?
gopro.com/en/au/shop/mounts-accessories/bite-mount/ABITM-001.html I use a go pro and I mount it with a mouth mount. I carabiner it to my wetsuit to not loose it!
I just bought mine 6'8 two side fine an a small trailer fin works awesome
The carabiner is a good idea, you just hook it directly to the wetsuit bungee?
Yeah I put a leg rope string between the mouth mount and go pro and yeah exactly like you say. Sometimes Ill use the floaty and i wont attach it to me but most of the time thats how film.
It was pumping this morning
Keep your hands on the deck of the board until your all the way up. Your wobbling on one knee. Just a tip. Jump all the way up both feet. Push hard, all in one. Good ride!
Great videos! What fins do you rock with the Townsend? The Album Asym fins that were designed for this board or do you any other regular, standard twin fins work just as good? 🏄♂️
At the moment I am running the Shapers Asher Pacey upright twins in medium, in the past I have run the Needs Essentials upright twins. They are a fair bit bigger and have more rake tho so they we’re definitely stiffer that the asher set
Awesome!👏 thanks for the feedback. Keep up with the great video content. 🙌
