Music jams with Deluge and OP-Z. Plus some older stuff in Dutch.
Jam solely on Sonicware Ambient 0
I highly enjoy the Sonicware Ambient 0. I haven’t got much time yet to fully explore it, because shortly after I received it the OP-XY was launched fully unexpectedly (to me at least). And I couldn’t ignore that one. But come #jamuary2025 and I will sure find days to add in this intriguing box that can doo 4 weird ambient sounds at the same time.

Me fumbling to make a brain based track on the OP-XY
มุมมอง 582 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
#jamuary2025 this is the second thing I did yesterday after making the piano piece on the Squarp Hapax. It is a lot worse, that is not the OP-XY at fault but mainly my inability to fully focus on the music if I try to do it on camera. Anyways, it was fun trying to demo some stuff. #opxy #squarphapax
Beethoven inspired piano piece on Squarp Hapax (with “brain function” tutorial)
มุมมอง 597 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
#jamuary2025 today I made music which was inspired by an analysis I saw on TH-cam about Beethovens pastorale piano sonate, the second movement in D minor. The analysis: th-cam.com/video/FRviv3XtwXA/w-d-xo.htmlsi=zyAGa2qlS4HcQw_s I use intelligent transposition (what in the OP-XY is called, the 🧠 brain function) to get multiple phrases from 1 four bar phrase. This works in the following way: the...
Jamming with punch in FX on the OP XY
มุมมอง 477 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
#jamuary2025 for day 3 I have some weird, noisy sounds combined with a rhythm that has a lot of swing to it. I am improvising only with the mute states and the punch in fx, nothing too fancy. I do not think the punch in fx are the best musical feature of the OP XY but they do have a great fun factor.
Piano fantasy on the OP-XY
มุมมอง 12612 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
#jamuary2025 day 2. The OP XY came out in November last year, and I really wanted to try it out because it fixes everything I didn’t like about the OP-Z, my very first groovebox. The OP XY is an improved iteration of that concept, a very generative style step sequencer that can add variations on each step. I really love it so far, and since making of music on this device is extremely fast, I wa...
My cheapest and most expensive synth playing together in an ambient jam
มุมมอง 26728 วันที่ผ่านมา
The #sonicware Abient 0 and the #novationsummit are both excellent synthesizers. One costs almost 10x what the other costs. But they both sound nice… I did an ambient jam with them. The Sonicware plays slow chords and noise. The novation summit plays a nice pluck sound with chorus, reverb and delay. I was really happy how this one turned out.

A piano jam on Hapax
มุมมอง 141หลายเดือนก่อน
This one is fairly minimal. I am trying to get into a routine to finish stuff regularly, even small - or should I say tiny - things. I sequenced it on the Hapax, and added some variations in real time. The piano used is Pianoteq. Recorded with Logic Pro on the iPad.
The novation summit is so fun to jam on…

I haven’t been recording this synth a lot, but rest assured, no week goes by without me playing at least one night on the #novationsummit , my biggest synth and also the one I love the most. When I have some serious time to invest I very often try to battle one of my grooveboxes because then it is composing time, trying to come op with a whole piece of music. But when I do not have that much ti...
Jam in D major / B minor
มุมมอง 59หลายเดือนก่อน
I made another jam on the #seqtrak . This time I did not use the sequencer at all but instead I completely sequenced it from the #hapax . I really love how good the SEQTRAK sounds. It has just sample based piano and strings , and an FM synth for the lead sound, combined with not too processor intensive effects since it is all coming from a fairly cheap device, but still the instrument sounds pr...
SEQTRAK jam
มุมมอง 1952 หลายเดือนก่อน
This is a jam I made on the SEQTRAK. I like the SEQTRAK quite a lot, I was hoping that it could be the on the go groovebox that replaces the OP-Z. But that was before the Ableton Move came along. The weak point is entry of melodies. Chords is ok, and drums is totally ok, but melodies are hard on the SEQTRAK as long as you don’t hook up an external piece of gear for the keyboard. This is mainly ...
I made a bells + strings patch
มุมมอง 1004 หลายเดือนก่อน
I made a patch on the Summit that uses the 2 layers, one for strings and one for bells. Once nice trick one can do is have the HOLD on on the longer sound. That way one can play an arpeggio and as long as you keep multiple keys pressed it will become a chord on the part that has HOLD switched on.

the OPXY seems counterintuitive for the price it's at.
@@jordan_gentry it is overpriced for what it does, for sure. But maybe this stumbling video was a bit misleading, because I am usually getting pretty good results from the brain track, and the OP-XY is a sequencer with a very fast and solid workflow for me, and it does interesting things that my other sequencers do less or different . So I don’t regret buying it, but when in need of an affordable option I would recommend people other stuff.
Really beautiful! There was so much I wanted to know about OP-XY, and this unique piece was very helpful.
Great track, good to hear something different being made with the XY, and very nice use of the arranger
Yes this is good stuff! Appreciate this.
Great setup
...and the best sequencer. Thanks for sharing. My wife uses a Summit for work - it sounds amazing.
enjoyed. thank you for sharing.
This chiptune really sounds happy I like it! 🙂
Cool synth!
I really like this! Was this with the built in sounds?
@@agentmirv yes, with some knob movement. I really like the built in sounds, they are diverse and tweakable.
noice groove 😎
This is extremely good
Thank you
I love the Summit, owned it for a while. I have never seen such a dirty Hapax, but I did love the beautiful pictures!
@@rayderrich it is an amazing synth! I am very bad at dusting off, always seems that the dust just moves instead of going away. But I will try not to forget to do a new attempt before the next video.
@@jantuitman Ik had me er niet mee moeten bemoeien, Jan. Ik kijk graag weer naar je volgende videos, en ben benieuwd hoe de Summit daarin een rol speelt.

Sweet jam man, ethereal and mesmerizing. That synth is a beast.
Nice
Great now I want an Mc lol
Thanks! It is a great 4 timbral sound module but I would definitely not buy it if you don’t already own a sequencer, because the sequencer on the MC101 iitself is pretty clumsy to work with, so as a groovebox I cannot really recommend it.
@@jantuitmanbut hapax is almost 3x the price mc 101 so you get what you paid for 😅
Very cool
Lovely! Subbed and will look forward to more of your posts. Cheers. :)
this is fantastic!
Great song!!!! You know how to work that wavestate! I want to buy one so bad but I know there is a possible learning curve 😊
Thank you! I am curious what attracts you to the Wavestate. I haven’t used mine for a while because I was more into the (more direct) Minifreak but last week I put it back on a stand and I am hoping to make some music on it very soon again.
@@jantuitman The touching of the buttons. Laying in my bed making music lol...for me my timing feels better on hardware. Love your work and can't wait to hear more!!
great demo - thanks for sharing
Zoveel stemmingen, zoveel associaties. Echt heel mooi.
Geweldig Jan, ik geniet hier erg van; zowel van geluid als beeld.
Leuk dat het je bevalt
Sounds very good! Have you made the plug-in trough logic’s scripter?
Yes. I love scripter and want to do some videos about it.
I think I did it here track by track, so midi out 1 goes to instrument 1 on the Syntakt. However, if you use channel 16 I think you can send triggers to all instruments, but I guess you don’t have control over pitch in that set up. I have used that as well, if I only needed drum sounds.
are you using syntakt in drum track mode on the hapax? or what did you find the best way to configure the midi channels and hapax to control the syntakt?
Hello, Do u still use them together? Since long I think to combine those two because in Pyramid it is possible to save a part 32 patterns for a sinclgr instrument/channel. Also curious if you could save midi fx on the Deluge sequencer.
Hi, I want to give more than 1 answer, so here is a list of points: 1. I use Squarp Hapax now instead of Pyramid. The Hapax allows to lock MidiFX parameters for the different parts of the track, so it is very powerful for your specific use case: starting tracks and switching different MidiFX. 2. If you would do this with a Deluge and a Pyramid, you’d make different tracks with different MidiFX on the Pyramid, save them there, and then send the notes from the Deluge (so no notes in the Pyramid). This would be the easiest way of doing it, and you wouldn’t save the MidiFX in the Deluge but rather use the combination of track number on the Deluge and Pyramid to select the right midi fx. 3. The Deluge is open source now, and I happen to be developing new features for it! (I want to make a video about it very soon). I am currently working on a. feature for playing notes that are not “in key”, but maybe I will do MidiFX in the future or otherwise someone else probably will have the same idea. So I am pretty sure that the Deluge will have midi fx in a couple of months.
Lovely work on this Jan !
Keep up the great work! My ears thank you!
Nicely done 🫡👍
Love hearing others that love sequencers!
What a creepy mofo
I really enjoyed your video. I'm in the same position (programmer by day, musician by night) and I also just recently installed Logic Pro on iPad. I'll definitely take a look at the scripting on the desktop version of Logic as well. Many thanks!
👍👍👍
I haven't tried it yet because I don't have time but the step sequencer in GarageBand is great and in Logic Pro it looks like it takes it to a new level. In GB I like the fact you can change each row to a different length and set the playback mode - I like the random mode and combined with the note repeat gives some great variations on hi-hats. In Logic Pro it looks like you can record the notes into it from a keyboard with automation too?
Yes you can do this, and you can also manually add automation lanes.
I am not sure what you exactly want to know, but you can set the midi channel per note in the step sequencer, and you can have multiple step sequencers on multiple tracks, so yes, lots of possibilities for more than 1 instrument at the same time.
How to multi midi editing
Nice 👍👍👍
I like this sound! It makes me want to play Donkey Kong Country 🙌🎶 SUBBED ✌️
This was very nice! Thank you.
Nice sounds. Enjoying my scotch sibgle malt and plucking sounds.
From around 5:50, when you increase the attack, I find the sounds more interesting. You had fun, that is what matters.
Thanks for the feedback, i will listen to what you meant! I also found that this definately wasn't my best jam but i try to finish stuff regardless of how good it is, because in the end that leads me also to making more 'good' jams. Hopefully i will produce less bad jams in the future but currenlty they still happen...
@@jantuitman No jam is bad, they all lead to something better as we keep learning, plus there is nothing wrong with just having fun!
How many colours are the buttons?
On this keys screen there are 7 colors, 1 for each note in that are in your scale (e.g. C major). If you disable the scale, there will be only 1 color, for the C notes, so that you can easily see where new octaves start. On the song screen of the Deluge there are 12 possible colors. There each color can be used to mean “song part” because the launch buttons which are the right most column of the deluge will launch all clips that have the same color as the button, all at once. So if you make the clips of verse 1 dark blue, you can launch all the clips that are supposed to play during verse 1 of your song by just pressing a single button. I tested that and it works as long as you have 12 groups max. Which is sufficient for huge compositions as the Deluge has unlimited clip length and also doesn’t care if you make 10 clips of the same color.
@@jantuitman a nightmare for a colourblind...
Actually I am not correct about the colors of this keys screen I now see rewatching it! Because even though only 7 different notes are in the scale it uses more colors. It is very hard to count because many colors are very similar, it uses a gradient. I think there are about 20 or so.
@@FUNCULOBUSH I never considered that, but I think indeed It might be very annoying to use the Deluge clip variations feature if you are color blind. Not only are the group colors an issue, the deluge uses red and green to distinguish between playing and muted tracks. The Hapax sequencer (which I also have videos about) uses positions on the grid rather than colors for clip variations. I think it would work much better for color blind people, although for people with the extreme rare yellow / blue color blindness there might still be an issue left because the Hapax uses blue for clips that are not playing and yellow for clips that are playing.
Thank you for this. 1. Sounds good. 2, Doing more than most are. 3, Gives me the inspiration to dust off the MC101 and pair it with some sequencers. 🫡
Yes, it is a nice device that deserves to be dusted off, I hope you’ll enjoy with what you will make on it!
niceee, this is fire
That's great, thanks for sharing!
I'm trying to decide whether to get a Deluge or a Syntakt to complement my Minilogue XD. What would your recommendation be? I'm planning to use it for sequencing the minilogue (besides just jamming / writing musing on it). I realise the work flows might be quite different, but can't really play with any of them before purchasing.
@@xpayk deluge. If you want to right songs. Sytakt has a deeper synth sound design engine. But the deluge has sampling and wavetables. Deluge is more like center of your workflow whereas syntakt is and additional instruments. But Deluge is very unique. Can take it anywhere too.
❤ great jam. Thanks for sharing.
