The umpiring in this game was appalling! When Jones was tackled by Wiley at the 17:50 mark, how was that not dropping the ball?!

As good as Sticks was, he was never a sure thing with those helicopter kicks, especially late in his career. A typical stat line for him in the mid 90s would be something like 3 goals, 3 behinds and one completely inexplicable miss at everything.

Poor Footscray...so many turnovers. They needed to spend more time practicing kicking to each other and less time in the gym. The blues demonstrated that skill is superior to muscle.

Really should have finished top that year but lost inexplicably to Essendon in the last round. Would have played the PIes and likely beaten them. Instead with copped Melbourne and Geelong (both of whom we matched up poorly with). Could have gotten a soft Prelim match up against either Hawthorn or Footscray then probably West Coast again in the Granny, A bunch of what ifs. But we flogged everyone the year after, so it's okay.

The commentators giving the umpire decisions are constantly getting it wrong...They went on about Aitken having ''' holding the man'' decision awarded at the 10-minute Mark... However Peter Curran had the ball in his possession when the Aitken decision was given....Don Scott & Peter McKenna are the worst of the culprits

From my point of view, a win over Hawthorn means the most. I started following Carlton in 1986, hence the reason.

I was one of the sardines that day at Princes Park. My mate and one of the members wanted to have a punchup (despite supporting the same team!) but it was so packed that neither had the capacity to move from where they were. The one thing about this match I'll never forget was the game by Jon Dorotich. He got 3 brownlow votes and he quoted it his greatest game ever. I'm not sure I ever saw a Carlton backman dominate so much as he did that day.

I saw Kenny Hunter play for Claremont in the WAFL. Just remember him playing with the socks down and flying for marks coming in from the side and kicking with his left foot out of half back. Was a great player !
