I had the chance to follow Ray Viloria while he went talaya fishing on the east coast of Guam. for Chada cove to just north of the Mangilao golf course. he usually does this at night but to light up the area would just scare off all the fish. (that's my excuse for coming late). we were out there for about 5 to 6 hours. then hiked up with the catch at Hawaiian Rock. that was killer! he has been ...

    The word " Tasa" is Spanish. .. What did the CHamoru call the Latte capstone ? Perhaps it was called, "Tuhong " (hat) or "Tampi" (cover). Very likely ? But one thing for sure is the Chamoru people didn't call it Tasa .

    I didnt see anything that wall carving that looked like an outriggere canoe. If anything i saw what looks more like a 16th century ship. It was pretty much legit until then and was intreged up until that point. Im not sure but they are not all designed with that "ball joint" feature. They come in different configurations of both their pilars and caps and are located in areas nowhere near a water line. Mof theres one located on the next ridge left/ North of the Mt. LamLam trail. Idk perhaps its irrelevant.

    Compare the latte stones of Guam and Rota to the megaliths of Gobekli Tepe of Anatolia. Same shape same function.

  • @highartandcriticism7803
    @highartandcriticism7803 ปีที่แล้ว

    Well done, but with misplaced emphasis on European explorers. Connections to the ships used by the voyaging peoples of Indonesia is vital to this story. Explanation of how the megaliths were moved from Rota's quarry to Guam and Tinian needs further explanation. Mention is not made of quarries outside of Rota, including the basalt quarries of Pohnpei. Thus, the origins and use of vessels capable of transporting latte stones moves to the forefront of this study, implying an ancient commerce in lithic technology, with ancient Indonesian mariners, as well as a practical explanation of how megaliths were moved from quarry site to the build site at Nan Madol, Guam, and Tinian. Furthermore, "value" in lithic commerce is understood when compared to the stone currency of Yap. And "value" is further understood when the function of latte stones is explained as a secure adaption to typhoon surge and rodent infestation. However, a sliding scale of "value" is additionally discovered when the stone crowns of Rapa Nui's megaliths are seen as abstractions separating Deity from terrestrial origins. Thus, there is a spiritual dimension to "lifting a people off the earth" which is in implied by the top crowns of megaliths on Rapa Nui. Thus, the elevation of community houses has both practical and spiritual function and is seen in centers of authority in the great-houses used by Pacific peoples of Melanesia, Micronesia, and Polynesia. Only an ancient mariner could have introduced the idea of pillar and top crown across thousands of oceanic miles. Therefore, a close examination of the ancient Indonesian vessels is central to understanding the origins, spread, and application of latte stones.

    Before the ancient Chamorros used stone pillars, they first used wooden ones. But as they developed their belief of Fo'na and Pontan, they started using Latte stones instead, probably because Fo'na is said to have turned herself into stone

    You mean Philippine food. chamorros learned all their food, culture, and many many more from the Philippine people and from neighboring islands such as Palau, hawaii, yap, ect... that reside in Guam and saipan that's a fact. I don't mind all that but the only problem is that they claim it's theirs ever since the beginning of time.

    @foxtrotcinco - Traditionally all Chamorro Kelaguen (chicken, beef, shrimp, fish, and even Spam since WWII) is serves with Chamorro Tatiyas. It's an adaptation of Mexican style Corn Tortillas learned from crew members aboard Spanish ships that made port on Guam back in the day. This is not to be confused with the traditional Spanish Tortilla which is more like a potato, onion and egg fritatta (Italian ). Chamorro Tortillas (corn, wheat flour, cassava, etc), are about double the thickness of modern day Mexican Tortillas. This makes Chamorro Tortillas the perfect vessel to take a small piece and with a single hand gather just enough Kelaguen or other food enough for one bite at a time. Kelaguen is served as one of many side dishes on traditional Chamorro dinner or fiesta table. Chamorro Red Rice, White Rice, White Wheat Flour Tortillas (usually sweetened) and other starches are served along with other main meats (famous Chamorro style grilled/bbq) and meat sides as well and many fish and vegetable side dishes. Today's modern tendancies you will often find people who have never seen or tried the Traditional Chamorro style thick Corn Tatiyas. It's an art to make good pliable ones as well as very time consuming. Its just easier to buy Mexican Tortillas or serve with Mexican crunchy Tostadas or Tortilla Chips. Young people prefer the sweet white flour ones. No Chamorro table is complete without the famous Chamorro hot sauce called Finadeni. This comes in many forms such as the traditional lemon variety or can be made with vinegars, or just crushed peppers with salt for a real "hot" sensation. This sauce is not necessary served with Kelaguen as Kelaguen is already prepared with its own lemon, salt and chili peppers. To do so would completely alter the taste of the kelaguen since the Finideni usually contains Soy Sauce and Kelaguen of any kind should not. So that's how traditional Kelaguen is served. Eat it any way you like, with tortilla chips, any kind of rice, bread, as a taco or mayonnaise enhanced bite. Enjoy!

    I have made it and love it, here in San Diego. in Mexico we eat ceviche on a corn Tostada. I put some mayonaise first and then the chicken ceviche. taste very good. a tortilla seems to be not as good as a tostada. because then it is a " chicken taco" and you don't taste the chicken so much.the tortilla has a strong taste of its own. my opinion is that the chicken ceviche is better on a tostada. in Mexico we make ceviche with shrimp or fish. thank you
