Demonstration - ArtCo Mini Ceramic Super stones
If you like this, feel free to buy me a coffee :-) : buymeacoffee.com/engraverhand
There is no secret I really love the ceramic mini stones from ArtCo Tools and I get some questions about it now and then, so I rather make a quick demonstration video..
Here is one way I use them. I´m very picky.. or at least I try to be, and some times if I do some bad lines, it will annoy me so much that I rather spend time fixing it. :-)
Neither the design or the shading here is anything special, so maybe I should sand it all away, but it´s just made quick to show when doing some bad shading lines..
The ArtCo super stones 0,3 mm: www.artcotools.com/products/mini-ceramic-super-stones
They have other sizes too, but this is my favorite size.
The holder I´m using to hold the 0,3 mm Ceramic Super Stones are from Lindsay. I use them in my Classic Airgraver, but it should fit most graver tools I can imagine.: airgraver.com/Engraving%20Accessories.htm
Scroll a little down and look for the Mini Stone holder.

If you like this, feel free to buy me a coffee :-) : buymeacoffee.com/engraverhand I found an old video from 2020 I think it is.. so it´s not that great, but not that bad either, I think.. I see some leafs, folds and things I would not do today, but other stuff is alright.. :-) Have a look if you want and let me know what you think? Is it OK in 2024?

Wow. Just wow...your shading is impeccable!
Thank you very much for kind words! :-) Appreciate it!
Looks great!! Hope your feeling better!
Many thanks! :-) Someone told me that my "real leafs" wasn't very good in a drawing I posted, and I´m agree.. so I´m starting a little practice to see if I can get somewhere :-)
@ a wise man told me “I learn a little every time” even if it doesn’t feel like it, you get practice and probably improve small things every time.. :-) 😉
@@sharonakasher Oh absolutely. I try, or at least hope to improve or at least get the practice every time I´m drawing.. Trying a few hours every day, and now it´s the leafs turn :-)
Прекрасно получается 👍👍👍
@@Fedorov787 Thank you! :-)
Nice 3d Effect
Thanks a lot :-)
Wish you had shown the over all look when completed
To be honest, I´m not sure it was ever finished. It was a project with someone else and it was delayed for several reasons and in the end stopped.. but before that we tried different designs, but this was one I had a video of. :-)

@@Artnabin136youtube Thank you very much! :-)
So cool. You have great talent!
Thank you so much! :-) This was my first real practice watch with proper tools. I thought never to part with it, but I’m actually finishing it these days as one of my best friends wants it. It was actually quite challenging because I have advanced a bit in technique and style since then, but when engraving the rest I had to try to match with the of the engraving. There are some videos where I’m putting gold inlay for some names.. Thanks a lot for watching :-)
Great taste in music sir!
Hehe The Steeldrivers is never wrong for engraving :-)
Just pure dedication and love for the craft, masterpiece!
Thank you very much! :-) It´s most defiantly a fun craft!
is there any course for me to learn this?
I learned this by myself.. studying others and practicing a lot.. and I still do and still learning. I used to give online classes, but not at the moment.. but there might be others. Now I only have students in my Studio, but I´m located in Barcelona, Spain :-)
From where can i bay that machine
www.airgraver.com/
That was a good transfer
Thanks a lot for watching! :-)
Absolutely mesmerizing, beautiful work ,even the music keeps one locked into the video. Good job .
Oh thank you very much! :-) It was a test/practice plate to try something.. and I always like to make my own music for my videos.. have a little fun with that too. Thanks a lot for watching and your comment! Made my day! :-)
What is the material that holding the watch dial? It looks like it's embedded in wax and somehow attached to a lathe.
It is some kind of thermoplastic.. I heat it up with a heat gun, but apparently you can use hot water too.. it get´s hard when it cools down. Same process when you want to remove the item.. but be aware.. it might be quite sticky.. some acetone might help to remove some sticky parts. but please DO NOT place it on top of your vise.. if you gegt this down in your vise, you´ll spend the next year removing it.. look for a small metal container you can put in your vise. :-) Search thermoplastic on eBay and there will be bags og small plastic balls.. I think I bought 500g a few years ago.. still got plenty as i can use it over and over..

Lindsay AirGraver with Lindsay Mini Stone Holder: airgraver.com/Engraving%20Accessories.htm and ArtCo Tools 0,3 mini stones: www.artcotools.com/products/mini-ceramic-super-stones Works awesome :-)
thanks!
More than welcome! :-) I have some other small tips and tricks I often get asked too, just haven’t gotten the time to make it yet.. but I hope this month while away from my normal working bench :-) Thanks for watching!
haha so funny 🤣🤣
A little fun doesn’t hurt.. I think. :-) Thanks for watching! :-)
Excellent video!! Those stones are very useful.
Many thanks! :-) Yea defiantly! Without it would take so much more time.. I dont mind spending time, but still, it really opens new doors :-)
i love your art process
Thank you very much! :-)
Hello! May I ask? What did you clean with in the video? What is that abrasive rod?
Oh it’s not a cleaning thing, well.. kind of I guess :-) The ceramic mini stones from ArtCo Tools: www.artcotools.com/products/mini-ceramic-super-stones The one I’m using here is my favorite size 0,3 mm They have in many different grits. I use the Lindsay mini stones holder to hold them and put them in my graver. :-)
상상을 현실로 보게되네요 멋진영상 감사합니다❤
@workshop_ride Thanks for watching! :-)
Words don’t come easy,,,,
hehe thanks a lot! :-) It was fun drawing it.
Muy bello quedó ❤❤
Muchas gracias! :-)
Blessed hands and eyes. 🎉.
Thanks for watching! :-) This was one of my very first watch dials.. it’s been a while but early next year I have a couple of watch projects and at least one of them has a full watch face engraving, so stay tuned :-)
😂😂 You like to play with Fire
Haha I’m ok before I drink too much coffee.. :-) There are some very tiny and weird shapes of inlay, so I’m not sure how else to do it in a good way.. :-) Thanks for watching! :-)
Damn, that looks scary as hell 😬😳 One little slip and you are Fxxx? Pretty cool music though. 🙌
Scary, yes it is.. :.-) but like everything, the more you practice the more control.. not saying something can´t happen, but if taking it slow and being concentrated, take breaks and don`t drink way too much coffee I think I´ll be fine (knock on wood) Tanks for looking and listening :-)
👍🏻🔥🔥🔥🔥⚡⚡
Many thanks! :-)
Awesome vibe 👏👏 What is the rotary tool you are using for the under cut?
Thank you very much! :-) Glad you liked it. This one is the Busch Super Carbide: www.artcotools.com/products/figure-48l-flame It´s the first time I use it for this and it works awesomely Thanks for watching! :-)
Oh Those look very useful, I've been using machinist stones which work but not for nice fine detail areas
They sure are super useful! I use them for a lot of things and after getting them I can`t be without :-) It´s the only place I have them as small as 0,3 mm so that´s my favorite :-)
@@engraverhand i'll have to look into trying some. they would be good for my coin and die carvings for smoothing out the super tiny spots i can't get at
@L.Comstock-838 Yea sometimes if I need a small smooth background I use them too.. :-) Let me know what you think if you get some. I think they’re only $5 each. But make sure to get some sort of holder for them. If not they’re quite fragile. :-) Could use a mechanical pencil too, but it would be a lot of sanding by hand. I use it in the graver with very fine hits.. :-)
@@engraverhand will do if i order any, a bit disappointed with their shipping options since i wouldn't be buying a larger order, hard to justify paying half of my total order just for shipping costs :\
@L.Comstock-838 Oh I see.. I can’t remember what options it was, but I was getting some Vallorbe files, ArtCo diamond files and quite a few burs and bits :-)
What 😂
You got it! :-)
Wtf is dat
haha you have to wait and see.. :-) Maybe I´ll post the video tomorrow.. stay tuned.
hi marius mellebye, which are the characteristics type of engine does from this model cavallin 100/55 rolling mill operate ?
hi there, I have some photos of the motor, but it´s a lot of text.. so if you want feel free to send me an email at engraverhand@gmail.com and I can send you some photos I took when I was changing some parts :-)
I want to see more of this please
Thank you Cheryl! :-) I have something more coming, but in a little while.. need to work a little on another time consuming project, but more to come for sure! :-)
@ Thank you.
Love this, I see you use Procreate too. Do you sketch in Procreate and then do vectors in Affinity? Folk like Sam Alfano do some amazing Procreate work but to me it doesn’t seem as ‘editable’ as Afininity - might just be my lack of knowledge 😊 thanks for sharing.
Procreate or Affinity Photo is my main daily apps for drawing scrolls.. it has more hand drawing feel like a normal pencil. Very true, not very editable other than a eraser like with normal pencil drawing.. just less wrinkly paper :-) But sometimes I have clients that requires a vector design for either blowing up the design large or use it as a laser engraving file or similar and then the vector is good to have and you can edit the way to "perfection". Yes I always draw by hand in Procreate or Affinity Photo first just so when I trace it with vector it get a little more "hand drawn" look and feel... :-) Some people start drawing directly in vector and spend time editing the lines, but I dont think drawing in vector is a very natural way to draw, that is why I like to do it this way... and recommend to learn (maybe you're already really good) to draw well before starting with vector :-) Hope that answer your question.
Appreciate your detailed reply Marius. I’ve engraved for maybe 25yrs+ but as a hobby. Have got Lindsay classic. Trying to improve my scroll design. I’m retiring from graphic design lecturer soon and want to take my engraving to next level. We’re in Wales Uk. Cheers
@mostynscottjones Ah cool, then I’m sure you know pretty well what you are doing! :-) Maybe I know you from any of the Fb groups? Anyway the vector can be fun and looks fascinating, gives a little more clear transfer in some cases, but not sure it’s worth all the extra work for more traditional hand engraving that we do. I’ve made and sold quite a few vector designs for clients which is mostly the reason I was forced into it :-) And I like to experiment.. another one for the experience account.
@@engraverhand really like the way one can change line weight on affinity before or after. Wonder if having that weight might help me add flair when engraving and it does leave a very clean line for transfer. Does take a lot more time though. Might I ask your preference for transferring designs? Been experimenting with laserjet and baking paper recently. Have done ohp but have to grab out of printer before it goes through heaters which is a faff :)
@@mostynscottjones When I transfer I usually transfer as thin line as possible.. A laser printer and parchment paper is one of my favorite ways to transfer, my my laser has max resolution at 600 dpi so the transfer isn´t too clean.. a thin line is all good, but the more thick the more mess, but maybe with a better laser :-) I also got a new DeskJet ink printer again after my old broke down.. my very favorite and most clean transfers are with a DeskJet and Tom White magic transfer.. That was with a HP 1020.. unfortanly that does not work with my system anymore so now got another DeskJet which is not that good, but got it the other day, so have to experiment a little.. but still I prefer thin lines and tilt as I go :-)
Thank you
Happy you liked it! :-) Thanks for watching! :-)

What karat gold is that? ❤
I would not dare to put anything else than 24 karat in MOP :-)
So cool, like a mystery 😮 I’ll definitely look out for the next. 😊❤
It is a mystery :-) Thanks for watching!
I’m trying to do this in Inkscape
I’m sorry, I don’t know Inkscape very well.. for sure the advantage with Affinity Designer is that I can use the Apple Pencil on the iPad. So much more fast.. :-)
ive tried on inkscape and am not good or the software isnt
To be honest I´m not a big fan of incskape.. actually it´s never coming near my computer again. Now it´s some years since I have tried it and they have probably improved, but I honestly don't know what it´s capable of :-) What I´m doing here in the video is using the Apple Pencil in Affinity Designer on the iPad, and using the pencil for this is a huge advantage.. I cant imagine doing this on a computer, at least not at this speed. :-)
Love it 🥰🥰 but looks like it is really chipping.
Yes it`s chipping and I love it too :-) Thanks! :-)
Super cool video, thanks for always inspiring 👌Love the music too.
Many thanks! Very happy to inspire! :-)
Good drawing need to see few more times to know better❤
Awesome! :-) Glad you like it and hope you will enjoy and get something out of it :-)
definitely we need more tips like this, specifically for affinity designer on ipad. liked and subscribed.
Awesome, thanks! :-) I just started another project so I need to find some time, but I have an idea for at least a couple of more good tips I get a lot of questions about.. Affinity for iPad is genius! :-) As soon as I find some time!
Love the sound track... gold into MOP... I can't even imagine the stress!
Many thanks! :-) The soundtrack was a piece of cake to make compared to inlay the gold in MOP and a lot less nerve wrecking hehe :-) Thanks for watching!
Could you show preparing the Pearl ( creating the “pocket “for the gold?
It would seriously take a lot of hours to make such video in a good way.. I´m doing it quite complicated and slow to make sure it´s all safe and it involved some custom made tools.. if I remember taking videos next time I might make it into a class. :-) I sometimes forget to record when I´m really focused..
