My friend and I were drugged and robbed in Ensinada during college spring break. We drove down from northern California in a 1970 VW bus, grabbed 1 shot of tequila and a beer each. We went back to the van to crash out, and woke up at 5pm the next day. They cleaned us out, but our organs were intact at least.

I've crossed over 100 times and gotten shaken down a dozen times. Years ago it would take $10-$25 to get off of a non-existent transgression. After getting shaken down in Tecate in 2005 I gave up. I sincerely miss my Mexican friends. The folks down there are kind, resourceful and family oriented but the cops and cartels have ruined the place. My last and final trip was 2007. If I go again it'll be a private plane flight to San Ignacio to see the whales.

Another van life couple had their van confiscated going from one district to another and the paperwork was not 100% in order (fees for the vehicle). They tried for months to get it back. Hired mexican lawyer more money no way to get it back. They still have to pay the financing of the van in the USA.

That's thing about travel, when money is getting spent and no money is coming in, it doesn't feel good and almost ruins your good time out there.

Sorry to hear about being robbed by the Mexican Police. This is a harsh reality for many of us mexicans. So sad.

We used to drive into Mexico (about 200 miles south of the border), we don’t go anymore. We got tired of getting shook down by police/Federalies. We used to go down many times each year. No more. No use for that third world cesspool. To hell with that place! So many better, safer, legitimate places to visit.

I watch another TH-cam channel and this couple had their super nice built out van taken from them by the Mexican police and they fought tooth and nail to get it back and in the end.. they were NOT able to get it back.. saw that 😮 and even though I speak Spanish and have had wonderful times in Mexico.. I’ll never go in this day and age! Nope! So glad you made it out with your rig!

We're British ex pat's living in USA and after we came on a trip we realized how great the people we met were and the overlanding opportunity here it was a no brainer to emigrate. Sorry you have to cut the trip short there is stll plenty to see.

Well you sure got a heaping slice of real America! We never know the reason behind some of our misadventures until a little further down the country road. What a fine human being Daniel is! Thoroughly enjoyed this episode especially the tractor footage! Egad! I wouldn't be heading north of the border this time of year- the weather's gonna be getting nasty up there!

Glad to see you're back on the road mate! Most Americans are really good people, and it's great to see you finding that out. I think I know why you put petrol in your diesel truck. In the UK, petrol (gasoline) pumps are green and diesel pumps are black. In America...it's the opposite. Diesel pumps are always green, and usually gasoline is black. I have a diesel Defender in the UK and a gasoline Ford F150 in the States........and so I have to be very conscious when choosing the correct pump. It's easy to get the wrong one. Excellent video.....look forward to the next one..!!!

Wait, why does the gas nozzle at the petrol station have a black cap and the diesel nozzle has a green cap? It should be the other way around. Green - gas, black - diesel. It's not your fault you poured gasoline.

Amazing really enjoyed it, farmers are the best, can't believe one came to your rescue especially with what is going on in the UK at the moment. Our farmers marching down in London on Tuesday just gone. We all need to realise our world would not be the same without farmers. Enjoy your week 😄
