The great grandfather of the automobile
A friend of mine, John has several antique cars but the ones that captured my attention were his 1924 Model T Touring Car and his 1924 Model T Truck. The truck is a full restoration and the car is about 95% with a few modern parts.
This got me looking into a Model T of my own. I don't want a nice parade car, I want one that looks like it is 100 years old, but is sound in nature. I have gone with John on a couple of road trips to either take a car to a qualified mechanic or to pick one up. I ran across a few that met my needs but for one reason or other, the owners were unwilling to sell.
So for the time being, I'm content to just see these mechanical marvels and I am truly in awe of the vision certain people had in developing this from horseless carriages to where we are today. I can only imagine what will be in the future.
This short video is a summary of some of the cars and parts that I have run across and a little driving lesson on this unique beginning of the automotive story. I hope you enjoy.

Starting the Brick!

We've been working on our new house for several months now and today the masons started on the brick. This is an exciting next step along the way.
Not much progress

I'm sorry to say that I have been seriously neglecting my poor Jaguar and haven't done a thing to it in over a year. I'm building a new house and it has all but consumed my time. That said, a friend of mine made me get it out and he took this video, so here it is. I did take it out for a spin afterwards and boy was that a lot of fun. Hopefully I can schedule a little time to it and get it a few...
I'm the man with three thumbs
มุมมอง 373 ปีที่แล้ว
I've been wanting a thumb for my backhoe for a long time. With some downtime, thanks to COVID closing my office for a few weeks, I gathered up some of my "scrap metal" and made one. What a useful tool! Why did I wait so long to do this?
One more step..

Slowly but surely I'm checking things off my list one by one. I've added an A/C compressor and I'm working my way through adding the remaining A/C components to make driving around a little cooler. Body work and paint will follow.
1971 XKE Almost done.

I've got everything (mechanical) done! I just pulled the engine and transmission and getting ready to strip her down to paint. If I only knew what color I was going to do. I've added A/C so this summer will be much cooler than last summer.

Here I am so far.. cracked windshield, primer here and there and no paint yet. ( I'm still having trouble deciding on a color. ) My dashboard is 90% complete. I rewired the car front to back and overall it is mechanically complete and everything works. It runs great and is a real blast to drive. When I do paint it, I have all new rubber seals and a brand new windshield in a box. I drive it just...
It’s great that you are quite interested in the early cars, the Brass Era & the innovations that came from the early pioneers. Please check your history however. R E Olds was way before Ford. Olds MotorWorks was founded 1897 & then REO Motorworks 1904. He was the one who invented mass production(1901) while Ford was 1911. There were many other innovations from him including the supply chain concept(helping the Dodge Bros) & even the self propelled riding lawn mower(1922). He was called the Great Teacher as he shared his knowledge with anyone who asked, including Ford. R E Olds was my great grandfather
Well first of all Debbie, thank you for your comment. I am actually impressed that a descendant of one of the great pioneers in this field watched my video submission. I hope you enjoyed it. I was actually exposed to a 1918 Oldsmobile as a kid whereas my neighbor used to pull it out of his garage and give is kids a ride now and again. I do realize there were others before Ford, such as your great grandfather who made many important contributions to the automotive industry and in no way did I intend to take away from any of the early pioneers with what I submitted. If you note, I did state that Ford was a great contributor and the video mainly emphasized what most people know about cars is what they drive now, not where they started. I also explained that many of the controls on a Model T would not do what you would expect them to do. I do want to thank you for adding your input and I am impressed that I got to converse with a direct descendant to an automotive great! Ed
What's next, just paint?
I’ve actually been thinking of wrapping it with something wild looking.
Hey where ya been? Sounds good
Thanks Chuck. How’s that B project coming along? I want to see some road action.
Now there you go getting my hopes up only to see the site cannot be found! I was hoping to see that thing go!!!
wassup with your Jag, finally making my MGBV8 nice this month----------Chuck
You need to add another video to your channel. I want to see. So when you say making it nice I presume you're talking paint? Mine is STILL primer, but... I'm actually getting ready to do my final body work, then paint. I've had the worst time deciding on a color though and I think that I've finally chosen it. Indigo Blue. It's a Dodge color for the new Charger. Please do another video though.
@@finallyitsed2191 -------HEY! My "B" goes in for paint(white)/bodywork Tuesday, new chrome and stainless and ordering some Rocket Ignitor (polished) wheels for it this week too. Then I'll put up a couple videos (probably April). P.S. my "B" is running great.--------Your Jag will look great in that Blue, good choice.-----------Chuck
Charles Royer I’m looking forward to seeing this. BTW Rocket wheels are a great choice and will look perfect on that killer car. Fun hobby, huh? There’s something satisfying knowing the car you are driving was built by your own two hands.
@@finallyitsed2191 --FUN YES----------expensive, yes--------- worth it ABSOLUTELY
@@mgbchuck6527 where are you on your B??
step by step, inch by inch, -----------------gettin' close--------------------------------Chuck
Progress Ed, awesome
Thanks Charles. I’m getting excited.

What color will you paint it? I have a '74 XKE roadster that's mostly stock, although I swapped out the ugly black over riders for '71-style bumpers. Your car would obviously blow mine away but I still enjoy it!
Wow.. another Jag guy. Cool. Is yours a 6 or 12? Details man... I completely agree with the bumper swap too. If you need any parts, Ive got some trim stuff and original exhaust parts. I’m going with the no grill or front bumper look but I’m all over the place on paint schemes. I think I’ve finally settled on a dark burgundy to candy red upper on highlights.
@@finallyitsed2191 The color you describe sounds great, and a dark color is fitting for such a bad a$$ machine. I know a lot of guys like to discard the front bumpers when modifying a S3, but I prefer them in the '71 style. Also, I'd suggest keeping the grill but losing the surround and the vertical emblem bar that mounts to the grill. My car is a V12 with the original engine and manual trans. It's Old English White with red interior, factory disc wheels and A/C. The only mods to the engine are a gutted air pump and a few of the other emissions bits that never worked anyway. I upgraded the suspension with an oversize torsion bar and hard poly bushings everywhere. The improvement in handling, feel, and precision of steering was just jaw dropping!
Steven, I think the roadster is the best looking body style of all and would love to see your car. You should set up a channel and post some pics and a video or two. Only the best of the best cars (still) have 12 cylinders! When I was a kid, my neighbor had a 65 roadster and I thought the headlamp covers made it look like a race car. What part of the US are you?
