I put a blow dryer to the sticky stuff underneath as well. I read rubbing alcohol which I didn’t have, so I tried some mouthwash. I then read apple cider vinegar, so I also tried that and I got it off in about 15 min just peeling and rubbing at it.

All you need to use is wd40 and a putty knife and it slides right off. Done in 5 mins or less. 🙂

It took me 2 hours they glue is still there. I used goo gone, alcohol, dawn soap, scrubbing bubbles. Cut my finger with kitchen knife too

Not to be rude, but rather to potentially save others time... I tried doing the blow dryer thing and it was taking so long, so I searched online and I tried another method suggested. I used Vaseline and a putty knife, and it came off in under 3 minutes.

Okay, you can get these cleanly off in minutes. Just warm the edge only so you can start to peel. Do not warm any more, peel it cold across the face of the tile so not to pull the tile off the wall. The adhesive sticks to the film and not the tile so there's no glue to remove from the tile. If you warm the whole sticker the adhesive sticks to the tile and is a pain to remove.

Mineral spirits might be easier. Just try a hidden spot first.And when you remove the contact paper, use a hair dryer to soften it up. This may pull off more adhesive from the start.

You did a great job. I'm an apartment maintenance guy and have been for a long time. These past few years these things have been popping up far too often and you are absolutely correct that it takes hours of painful work. I've actually scraped the glaze off of the tile using a heat gun and putty knife. Maybe I'll try the butter knife next time.
