The ToddFather on defining Evil - The Go Time Podcast with Todd Martin

In light of all that is going on around us, this ToddFather episode is another visit aimed at my kids on defining evil. How are we to avoid evil things if we cannot define what they are? One of the most important things that we can arm ourselves with is the knowledge of what is true. Great video! My question is, my horse is very responsive to light rein and light leg cues and he stops great. In an arena, which I only get to ride when I am team penning he responds great. However, when I trail ride, his mind is wandering because of other horses and basically he's always looking around, ie, distracted. I believe this distraction is causing him to ignore my ask. Should I not ask as much or maybe not at all other than the basics needed for trail riding?

    • @finngamesknudson1457
      @finngamesknudson1457 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is a subject where I think dog training methods cross over. If horse is overly distracted by multiple distractions, you need to go back to practicing perfect compliance without those distractions (arena). Then introduce distractions one at a time at a low level. Work your way up insisting on good compliance at every level as you go. For example if other horses are a distraction, start with other horses at edge of his awareness such as tied outside the arena while you work inside. Once you have his attention step up a tiny bit such as tying horses inside but at other end of arena and slowly work closer. May need to do this with a single other horse and work up toward multiple other horses. Once you’ve dealt with that distraction, figure out what else distracts him and go through similar process. Finally you get to start on trails, but do it tiny increments. If you can ride from arena to trail, start in arena to get him focused on you then head for trail. Don’t go longer than than you can hold his attention. If possible pick boring times and places - not when birds, deer, cows, or hogs are active. If you have friends with super calm trail horses, follow them so your horse can observe how relaxed the other horses behave. Good luck.

    The sliding stop is stupid. It is all about the person's ego, not what is in the best interests of the horse.

    • @finngamesknudson1457
      @finngamesknudson1457 ปีที่แล้ว

      This video is about training a quick stop and enforcing it. Tell me a reliable quick stop is not in horses interest when heading into fast traffic or facing other hazards. I agree rodeo style sliding stops are for showing off and ego, but like most remodel demonstrations that is just a useful skill taken to extreme.

    That's a great idea to give me a whole extra set of shoes, already shaped pretty close to fit, to have with me. Usually there is a farrier at my shows. Having extra shoes with me would make it easier for him to help my horse. But I sure would not ever attempt to nail it back on myself. I really don't think most of us who are NOT farriers should attempt that.

  • @emilylewis7642
    @emilylewis7642 ปีที่แล้ว

    Wow I've never heard the stop being explained as a transition before, but it makes perfect sense! Just like any other maneuver requires impulsion, so the stop is not really a cessation of movement; It's putting the impulsion in a different direction. Makes perfect sense!

      Nothing new in the past 15 years. Basically you ask the horse to stop on a loose rein and when they don't you hang the reins on the nearest fence post as you go by. They get to understanding that they are left alone when they stop well. Nearest fence post is a joke but you get the picture.

    I agree with teaching an owner to safely and effectively PULL a sprung shoe but, id rather my clients get a boot and call me, to fix it. Or, at least how to wrap it, untill i can get there.

    • @ToddMartinPerformanceHorses
      @ToddMartinPerformanceHorses ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s understandable for many but I think it is important to educate the ones who desire to become better horseman. Plus if you are a horseman/showman this happens many times at a show and a farrier is not available. Plus the more educated they are the more they will respect your knowledge and work with you as a team.

    • @emilylewis7642
      @emilylewis7642 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree, I would never want to attempt to put a shoe back on. I can pull a loose shoe, but it just seems like I could really hurt a horse by trying to nail a shoe back on. I'm not farrier though, no training at all other than watching my farrier do it for 40 years.

    Well guys, I am not an American guy but I share 100% what said in that part 1 & 2 podcast... as a French pacific islander (mix from Swizterland and Tahiti), a veteran and business owner young retired (57 y.o), what you described and talk about happen in Europe also... I'm drinking my hotwater and lemon prepared by my Indonesian wife here in Nouméa (New Caledonia) and I have the feeling that today we should do something to help our communities to retreive real values like tast of effort, merit, patriotism, honour and familly which articule around a man and a woman... A man will always be a man and a lady will always be a lady... this is not game and bullshit about sex equality through wokism movement that stupid liberals and left parties want us to beleive in is against common sense, it will never work this way, history of human being proved that enough through the ages. Finally, when I hear encouragments to desertion from TV worldwide by journalist and columnists or retired generals, no matter the origin of the forces concerned, I am appalled , what a poor example for our old comrades who sacrified themselves during WW I and WW II, what a disaster for our comrades we lost in AFGHA, in IRAK or in SAHEL recently, all those lifes taken for literally nothing, none of them resigned or deserted !!! Disgusting and frustrating... Hope to meet Dale maybe during my next journey in Bali (love surfing around there), and try to share a drink or 2. Take good care of yourselves guys, thanks for that sharing moments, we stand pride of our values, our old and actual fights and our convictions, UNITED WE CONQUER ! Make America and the world great again... (to be continued)
