VW T25 T3 caravelle GL making a bed for the factory rear seat.
มุมมอง 11K2 ปีที่แล้ว
today's challenge was to make a bed to fit in with the factory rear triple seat. I want to keep the factory rear seat instead of removing it and replacing it with an aftermarket rock and roll bed, so have come up with the following idea. it's turned out really well and is very simple to use and put up and down. VW T5 2.5 tdi conversion project part 6 dash board clean up

so I had a quick bit of time on my meal break today at work so I thought I would give the dash board a bit of a clean up. it is absolutely minging in there and very typical of a used builders van. Edited by YouCut:youcutapp.page.link/BestEditor

VW T5 2.5 tdi conversion project part 3 exterior clean using fall out remover
มุมมอง 4342 ปีที่แล้ว
After buying our new project we decided to give it a really good clean up as it was pretty disgusting being previously a builders van. It has a lot of metal fallout in the paint work so I bought some bilt hamber kerrosol fall out remover which worked a treat and looked mad during the process. please watch on to see the finished results after its first wash.

Great stuff. What's the wood on the ceiling?
It's a sheet of 4mm ply, which I cut the grooves into to give it the cladding look.
Buenas tardes muy bonito video felicitaciones . Yo tengo una camioneta soy de uruguay .
Thanks very much for this video. I’m in the middle of this swivel installation on my daughter’s ‘86 Vanagon. You answered all the questions I had. Piece of cake now. Fred
Hi nice van was it a Mwb
Great job. But to be honest, these are not well designed. I have 2 different makes, just a copy of yours. Not well thought out at all. Anyway, like I said, nice job.
Great video, thanks for sharing!
How longs is the wheel studs?
How do you manage to get to the adjusters to back em off ? For hub removal I mean.
What size drives are these bolts please
I think he said M8
M8 XZN and 13mm bolts
Hi mate, greetings from Australia. I am looking at something very similar in my 89 Caravelle GL as well. Just wondering how those hinged shelf legs are holding up after 6 months of use. I assume you would climb on and off the bed from inside meaning they would need to take a fair amount of weight and force. Also, do the legs get in the way when lying flat when you need to use that cargo area to put large/long objects on top of? (see position at 08:20 in video to see what i mean)
I have the same van and i did the same thing with my wheels. Got mine off a merc and drilled them out to 14mm.
Great job man 👍🏼
Thanks for your video. Good to learn from you. Thanks.
Morning. Can I ask where you purchased the LPG gas tank and if you have a link? Was it a straightforward fit?
Titian red is lb3v
Hi there. Looking forward to watching this series so cheers for sharing. I’m curious how much did you pay for the van?
Hi buddy. From memory I paid £2000 for it. Probably spent around £6000 all in by the time i gad paid for everything.
@@projectsinthebarn oh that’s awesome. I’ve just bought my first camper. It’s a T3 high top. Off to Torquay to collect it in the morning 🥴 wish me luck 😆
@cap102xX good luck then buddy, I sold a t3 reimo pop top on Saturday, I also have a t3 caravelle and just picked up a lt31 karmann distance wide 😀
Looks good - just found your videos so shall enjoy watching how things go
Hi love the bed just wondering where you got the legs from?also is there any way you could show us the parcel shelf working and maybe a dimension drawing so that us unlucky ones could try to make something similar?keep up the good work brilliant videos many thanks 😊 jon
Hi Jon, thanks for your kind comments buddy. I'll be working on the van this weekend due to a suspect duff distributor, so will look to get the dimensions of the parcel shelf etc foe you then. The legs I bought from amazon, they're folding shelf hinges originally, I'm just using them upside down 👍
Check this out! amzn.eu/d/gMNTfAL
Thanks for the link for the brackets which size did you get?also I need to do my door panels as per your video what thickness ply did you use 3.0mm or 3.6mm im finding it hard to source 3mm. So glad I found your video I've been looking for these jobs to do for ages
@@juliephillipd1765 from memory it was the 22" brackets. But I will double check for you. 3.6mm Ply is perfect for the door cards 👍
Y ESO ES LEGAL 🤣 COMO VAS A LLEVAR UN KAYAK POR EL LATERAL DE LA FURGONETA ESTAS TO LOKO SI TE VE LA POLICIA TE MULTA. Y LUEGO LO PELIGROSO QUE ES LLEVAR ALGO QUE SOBRESALE DE LA FURGO PARA QUE SE TE ENGANCHE CON ALGO ESTAS TO FLIPAO 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Hi, nice job and a big help as I'm about to embark on the same for my T3! You mention power steering at the end of the video. I was considering that but info I had was that insurance companies don't like the modification. Did you manage to sort that ok?
Hi Neil, thanks for your message and good luck with your swivel seats install buddy. In terms of the power steering, mine is factory fitted, a pretty rare option and is a hydraulic system run from a pump in the engine bay. The aftermarket kits you can buy are made primarily from other vehicle manufacturers electric pumps, mostly vauxhall corsa, and they are a bit vague to be polite. Every van I have driven with the system fitted is great for parking but can be pretty bad and notchy whilst driving, just my opinion of course and there may be a better system out there these days. I would recommend driving one with the same system fitted to a van that you are after and make your own mind up buddy. Good luck with it all buddy 👍 😀
@@vwbusbits Thanks for the advice and once again for the video. Very helpful and have fitted the seat bases ok which is a great asset, and we love 'em! Thanks also re the power steering info, am thinking we stick as we are (and I remain the main driver 😐). Appreciate your help!
@@neilspruce1380 hi Neil, glad to have helped and fab news that it all turned out well for you buddy 👍
Do you have the sizes of the wood that goes on the seat back buddy. Great work
Hi buddy, appreciate your positive comments. I have just been out and measured for you and each piece of 15mm Ply measures 140cm across and 41cm tall, so when they are folded out flat gives me a base of 140cm width and 82cm length. Hope that all makes sense buddy 🙏 👍 Cheers. Simon.
@@vwbusbits your a star mate. Much appreciated. Keep up the good work and enjoy the van 👌
The best part of these dash tidies is the cup holders. They really do need that extra screw though. 😉
Hi Sid, thanks for your comments buddy. I totally agree, that extra screw had made all the difference to its stability 👍
Quel dommage de percer son tableau de bord en bon état pour un bout de plastique…bonne continuation…🤙
How do you fix the wood to the back sit?
Hi Matt, it is just fixed back by a few screws through my wooden boards and into the carpeted seat back which has a thin wooden panel behind it from the factory. Hope that makes sense buddy 🙏
My vans called Toothless.👍
That's brilliant mate. It's my old van that was called toothless as when we just got it we went over to Belgium, and my middle boy lost his first tooth there, so a perfect match 👍 This new one has been called starky due to its colour scheme as it also came to us with gold wheels, the colours of iron man 😃
Hi dad very interesting from tom👍🇬🇧😍😁😎
Thanks son 💙 🙏 😘
👍👍👍
👍 👌 🤙
Neat job mate. 👍
Cheers Sid, the wife and I are actually watching it on the telly now ourselves 😃
Always satisfying replacing these little gremlins when you get a new to you van. 👍
Very true mate, it does make all the difference doing finishing all those little things and even better when it's relatively inexpensive 👍
I've only managed once to move on from VW T2/T25 ownership with a LWB 2.4 T4. To be fair it was a good van but lacked charisma so I've gone back to a T25. Look forward to following your progress with this T5. 👍
Hi sid, good to hear from you buddy. I completely agree, I've had a few T5's and they don't compare for me to a T25 or a bay. This one will be a slow burner project and will be sold on when it's all sorted. I've got my T25 caravelle to try and get sorted first for our holidays in a couple of weeks👌
Nice work 👏 on the installation. Lovely bus up you got there.
Hi tshepo, that's very kind of you.
Did you make the spare wheel carrier yourself? If not can one get something similar I have a LT46 and am looking at something similar for my vehicle
Hi Rob, yes I made it myself buddy out of some box section that I welded up. You can buy swing out ones from the Web, and I have seen them on ebay too.
Will you swop
Hi Jon, it has sold I'm afraid buddy.
Hello, awesomeness job! Love the look and amazing use of the space. I have a low roof 2005 on 155k that I'm going to convert. Wondering where you got the wheel arch covers from? Also love the spare wheel holder, great idea! Please do another update when you can. Cheers
Thanks buddy, glad you like what I have done. I got the wheel arch covers from eBay Germany from memory. I'll see if I can find a link and send it to you buddy. Thanks again, simon.
Here is the current item number from eBay for the wheel arch covers buddy 324513675813
Best bit is, you'll know when the spare wheel isn't holding air, because it will fall out the rack 😉😜
Haha, yes I have thought of that and it will be strapped in :-)
Could you tell me where you got the rear step cover from please chap?
Hi buddy. The outer rear wheel arch and rear corner panels are from just kampers, all of the inner arch pieces I had to make myself as there is not any real parts readily available for them.
Looking awesome Simon! Nice one ☝🏼
Thanks Luke, were very pleased with how it's turning out. Just a few more finishing touches and well be done I reckon. You had any joy on finding a van yet?
@@vwbusbits It’s looking really good matey, nice one. No, we haven’t taken the plunge yet. Focusing on property stuff at the moment, get that out the way and then look at the van! Take it easy brother, Luke
@@Mrluke733 happy days mate, things always get in the way of the cool fun stuff:-) take it easy buddy
Top job. the van looks in great nick. did you buy it like that or has it been restored?
Thanks very much, we were very lucky and managed to find this one in that condition. The only real area where there is some rust is around the bottom of the windscreen which I will tackle after this season.
@@vwbusbits Those lower windscreen panels are bad for rotting out, it's in amazing condition for it's year, I presume it's relatively low mileage?
@@zambotv8150 it's done 160000, so not been overly pampered in its former life. The body work is what drew me to it in the first instance, very lucky I guess.
@@vwbusbits Wow, it most certainly has been pampered! Have you changed the timing belt, tensioner and water pump? That's their Achilles heel
@@zambotv8150 yes we have, I had it serviced last summer, cambelt and water pump always has to be top priority, even if the previous owner said it has been done:-)
Lovely conversation you can be proud of that.
Thanks very much for your kind words, it means a lot to us.
Well done Joe

Morning buddy. I got them from here; www.leisurevehiclewindows.co.uk/volkswagen-lt-1995-2006-swb/
Now then love the van we've just started a lwb lt35 project! Just wanted to ask what size tyres you put on and what make? Do they rub at all? Thanks Paul

Hello i have lt35 maxi and go to converter,in your campers is missing wc and bathroom. For may 2 childrens and 2 big "childrens" is very important wc.
Well done mate, it's looking great
I’m looking for an LT35 as I think they are better than a Crafter, anything I should look for? Thanks
Hi Andrew, you're right on in my opinion, any vw after 2010 get too computerised and expensive to keep on the road. Mechanically the LT are really sorted, I would suggest getting at least the 2.5tdi 109bhp engine, the 88bhp just isn't really up to it. Rust can be a factor with them, so I would suggest simply getting the cleanest example with the best service history you can. I have recently had mine serviced with new cam belt and water pump etc as I never had any service history to speak of so better to be safe than sorry.
@@vwbusbits thanks for the tips
HELLO! COOL BUS! Glass in the door, is it cut or is it for sale?
Hi Alexander, the windows are for sale. I bought mine from leisurevehiclewindows.co.uk check out their website for prices and delivery, really easy guy to deal with :-)
Nice job you've done. Brilliant lay out and a good idea with the bunk beds in the back 👍Hope you had a wonderful first trip/holiday.
