you can change int to char and try to find the mean between 120 and 122, probably it will return a negative number because 120+122 will cause an overflow, this will also happen for great ints, an alternative is to divide by two and then sum: avg = n1/2f + n2/2f you are making two divisions, but now you can't get an overflow, and if you want the integer mean, to make it efficient you can use avg = n1>>1 + n2>>1 >>1 will move the number 1 bit to the right, wich is equivalent to divide by 2, in base 10 when you move the number it gets divided by 10, the same for base 2

I would add a control on the input like verify if the input is a number and change the type of "side" from int to float
