We need to bring the term Wild Camping to the US! Sounds cooler than dispersed camping
I totally agree!
Thanks for the shoutout! I actually only learned recently that “wild camping” wasn’t an international term. It’s actually fairly recent here too, it’s become mainstream just over the last 3-5years. I first heard it about 4years ago. I think it might actually be why a lot of camping content here doesn’t get a ton of US viewers.
Thank you. I appreciate you taking the time... I think you mentioned 8 months ago how many hours you spend responding to comments...so I want to thank you for spending some of it on me 🙂
A “diddy bag” would be something very different in Northern Ireland 😂 🙈
😂
Nice video! I went to Oregon for the first time in 2023. We went to Mt. Hood. I would love to go back and do some backpacking there.
Thanks! I am truly blessed to live in such a beautiful state.
I'm captivated by the sense of immersion this video provides. It feels incredibly authentic and puts nature on center stage! Always good if you know your limits otherwise death is lurking around the corner ;)
Thank you so much. Love your channel, by the way. Beautiful.
Camping continued: if the sites are reservable, don’t play stupid and try to steal the site, even if it’s late and you think it’s empty. 1) you didn’t pay for it and 2) some of us have jobs and can’t get out there until after work.
Yes! I arrived at my reserved spot on the North Rim of the Grand Canyon after dark to find someone camped in my reserved spot, so I have experience with that one. Thank you.
I love this, it's so funny because you have a tiny apex predator behind you the whole time... It's a shame people don't understand that house cats are bad for the environment
It's true. In fact, sea otters die every year due to toxoplasma gondii which is carried in cat feces that owners dump into stormdrains and runs into ocean water. Captain Oates does his best to offset his impact on the environment by appearing in TH-cam Videos and only eating responsibly sourced vegan lasagna.
Last time I checked, a banana peel is 100% biodegradable.
It is, that is true. And can take up to two years to do so. Also, this conditions animals in the wild to associate humans with food, which is a problem especially in National Parks. But your statement is accurate.
10:23, bigfoot
Lol. Pretty sure you're right.
I'm not a hiker but I totally get every one of your points. People are annoying in any setting. Different scenes, same disrespectful behaviour..... Loved your delivery!
Thank you. I appreciate the feedback.
Trail nazi wow!!!
Certainly a perspective I was concerned that this might elicit, as many in this subculture tend toward the "preachy" self righteous side. Purely informational, as I'm pretty sure most of us out there have done a lot of these things out of ignorance or indifference. I honestly do appreciate your perspective, thank you.
@@WallowaHikes common sense its not that common bro!
#1 TH-cam etiquette is to divide and title each subject on on the progress-bar. Since you failed to show proper etiquette, your vid was deemed unwatchable. Sorry (not sorry).
🙂 Well played.
Great vid.... I've observed all of these rules broken lol. Sad, but might need to add a rule about leaving the drones at home. Two times, I've seen ppl on trails with drones and had a fit. Never understood the uphill right-of-way, but I accept it.
Thanks for the comment and for subscribing! I want to assume people just don't know better... but I have a hard time believing it sometimes 😊. Hopefully new backpackers that see this will have a few more things to be mindful of. Your point on drones is a good one. Haven't experienced it yet myself, but I'm sure I will at some point.
Dont toss it save it for the zombie apocolypse
They should last that long. Do I eat them, or throw them at the Zombies?
We love the breakfast skillet. We buy it in #10 can.
I should do that. Definitely less expensive than buying multiple pouches.
Mix the salsa powder in with the eggs before adding the water and let them reconstitute together.
That's a great idea!
Other than the scrambled eggs and the breakfast skillet, I love Mountain House. Their biscuits and gravy, and Chicken and dumplings are awesome.
Totally. In fact, I'm taking Mountain House up Mt. Hood tomorrow. But those eggs...
I don't mind the breakfast skillet, but they should rename their chicken and dumplings to 'Chicken pot pie' as that's what it reminds me of, very good meal.
@@CragScrambler Sounds better too 🙂
The only ways these are palatable is in limited amounts being way in the background of a meal as a filler, eg in a burrito with spicy sausage or compressed and fried in oil and eaten with rice . Totally not worth buying either way
Agreed! Thanks for the post.
I shake them well and when done 30 minutes !!! then the are ok all of there meals i l;et sit for 30 Minutes.
I still have a bag left. May work up the courage to try your method 🙂 Thanks for that!
No.
Right? 😁

Fantastic ambience my friend! This looks great 👏👏
Thanks for that. Means a lot coming from someone who makes such beautiful content. I hope someday to have the equipment and experience to create something like you do! Much appreciated 😊
What a beautiful upload man! Navigation is truly important!
I appreciate the kind words. Thanks for watching!
Nice video
Thank you! And thanks for watching.
your house is visible in the back ground
Well, somebody's house anyway. And a birdbath, and random strangers, cat, park bench, etcetera 🤫
Beautiful 🤩 & be careful
Thank you 🙂
Incorrect!!! Derek says you can use a pinecone. I'm not buying it. :) Thanks for the shout-out Chris. And nice to meet you...virtually. PS-Everybody loves this topic whether they want to admit it or not.
You are absolutely correct, Carl. Derek definitely gets full credit for that one. Thanks for chiming in! And for anyone who hasn't had the pleasure of hearing Carl and Derek, check out the Backpacking and Blisters podcast on TH-cam! I listen to them in my hammock after long days of hiking. Fun and entertaining backpacking podcast. 😃
@@WallowaHikes You are too kind my friend! Looking forward to connecting with you in person!
Great video!
Glad you enjoyed it!
