Unlocking the True Potential of This Rare Notch-Resist Chronograph
In this video, we dive deep into the world of Seiko watches, exploring the unique challenge of their historically low amplitude, a characteristic that has always been a part of Seiko’s design. Our goal is to see if we can overcome this and make this Seiko rival, or even exceed, the performance of its Swiss counterparts. We focus on the rare 6139-6009 'Notch-Resist' model, produced only for a few months in 1970.
Through several repairs and upgrades, we aim to unlock its true potential, achieving performance that matches or surpasses it's Swiss counterparts. Join us as we push the boundaries of what this vintage Seiko can achieve!

Dang, why didn’t I think of Rodico for holding springs in place during removal? So obvious once you see it. I’ve been pinning them down with pegwood or a plastic tool, but have been thinking there had to be a better way. Duh. It’s sitting right there on the desk 😆.

Just wanted to let you know that not only are you my favorite watch repair channel but you have renewed my love for mechanical things and watch movements in particular. Since I was a child of probably 2 or 3 years old I saw my uncles Rolex with the back taken off and I saw that movement and I was immediately hooked. Of course life got in the way and three daughters later I’m just now starting to be able to get back into this stuff. But I have over the last two months, taken apart every watch and clock in my house LOL. Just thought I had to let you know that you have rekindled the fire in me to want to work on these beautiful pieces of art. I just hope to one day win one of these giveaways so I can have a watch with a great story to hand down to my girls. 😊

Just stated watching your channel. Great work. Have a question for you. I have an old Soviet Raketa watch ( most likely 2603 movement) that my grandpa wore for a long time. He bought it in the 50s. Don’t know the service history or whether it has even been serviced before, but it still ticks. It’s not an expensive watch and similar ones sell on eBay sell for $20-30 but it has a significant sentimental value to me since I was very close to my grandpa. Unfortunately, my grandma passed away approximately 20 years ago and this watch has been sitting in a cabinet until it was recently discovered by my mom. There are no videos on TH-cam on this movement but there are videos on a similar 2602 movement. Do you do repairs for others? If so, what would be the process and costs of sending it to you for a service? Thanks again. You’re awesome!

Happy new year, I hope you had a great festive period. Well done on upgrade. I think you're right about the amplitude being related to cost to install, and I think there's also a return/failure tolerance consideration too. I sometimes wonder if that's why there are so many ladies hi-beat movements - the physical forces in the smaller movements being lesser than in larger counterparts. Well done on reminding me about Mike's shop too. My order is now on the way 😁

@@WeekendWatchRepair I am currently on my first " semi restoration" for my nephews Citizen Eco=drive Corso BL8044-59E and your video was inspirational. He received the watch from my deceased father as a birthday gift about 9 years ago when my nephew turned 20 years old. The watch is very well used and sentimental, scratched crystal, broken bracelet link, grungy. I have been searching online but unlike automobile parts I can't find any service information for the specific watch? Would you have a good reference where I could look up/order the replacement parts such as crystal, pins, gaskets, etc? I have no idea what size'specs, part numbers are needed. Thanks for your time and appreciate any guidance. Happy New Year -Glen
