    Just found one of these in our old barn, nice to see how it’s used

      Traditionally, a rope attached to a mule, horses, or tractor would pull the bales up by way of a couple of pullies at the opposite end of the barn. You might look for a pullies on the opposite end of you barn. One at the outside peak and one dirctly below it at the foundation. I'm glad you found this video useful.

    We use ours daily but it suddenly got stuck a few days ago. I am guessing that one of the rubber suckers may be stuck at the very bottom of the PVC pipe. Any ideas on how to unstick it without removing the whole 30' pipe? This would not be an easy task since it is bolted into the concrete slab. The concrete has to also be moved to pull it all up.

      Sorry for the delay in my response. I’ve never encountered that problem, but you might try jiggling and pulling the chain in the opposite direction to hopefully break free the stuck rubber sucker or kinked chain. You might also try snaking something narrow and ridged (i.e., stiff fencing wire, ½” PVC pipe, etc.) down the PVC pipe to force the blockage out. Maybe while also pulling the chain in the opposite direction. I hope this helps.

      I've found my parts at antique stores and searching on Craigslist.

    Also how far apart r the rubber stoppers?

    • @andrewbranson3643
      @andrewbranson3643 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The rubber stoppers (often called "buckets") vary from about 42-48 inches apart.

    Im wanting to reassemble a cistern system that uses a chain crank. Do u have a video for that?

    • @andrewbranson3643
      @andrewbranson3643 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry, but I do not have a video of me putting the cistern chain pump together. Read closely the text in the video for help. I did connect a ten foot 1 1/2 inch PVC pipe to the chain pump's pipe with a standard rubber plumbing coupler. I then had to open a link of the chain and thread it through the pipe, looping it around the gear spoke at the top, and then reconnecting the chain link. A diagram of this can be found at photos.yesterdaystractors.com/gallery/uptest/a183958.jpg. Many of the parts for this type of chain pump (i.e., complete chain pump, water pump chain, pump buckets/rubber cups) can be found at lehmans.com.

    How do you make a bald knobber mask?

  • @MyPapagio

    Loading hay with pulleys, trolleys dates back a few hundred years. It was mastered long ago. If you guys had youtube you could find videos and easily learn there is a much better way to accomplish this. Oh wait....

    How many gpm? And how does it feed into the pvc without jamming up?

    • @andrewbranson3643
      @andrewbranson3643 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      GPM depends on how fast you crank it. Could probably fill 2-3 five gallon buckets per minute. The chain hangs about two feet below the pipe, and is coming up straight. The rubber cups allow it to slip right in.

      Andrew Branson thanks! are the rubber plugs snug agenst the pipe or is there some clearence? So cool is it easy to pump?...also bigger plugs crank and pvc should be able to pump more water im guessing. Fascinating id like to build one. Maybe parashoot cord fastened like a chain. For lightness. Thanks again

      The rubber disks are not a very snug fit inside the PVC pipe.

    Too slow. Bigger loads. Need 250lbs min. Or not worth using. Get an elevator and conveyer. Hook conveyer to your trolly system to place bales reduce labor. Get some hooks and learn how to use them.

    Great video! I am buying a hay trolley that will ride along a 6"x6" beam. Do you think that the beam and trolley will be able to handle a heavy wood beam that's 300 lbs?

    • @andrewbranson3643
      @andrewbranson3643 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The cast iron hay trolley and 6"x6" beam should be able to handle 300 lbs. Just make sure everything is mounted securely.
