    Thank you for this video. I began reading the book recently, and have reached the end of the section on compiling the initial list of 40 companies. Watching a summary like this gives me hope that it is worth the effort to continue reading the book. I would find your video more helpful if you described your experience of having calls with advocates whom you have contacted at different companies. I am skeptical about how many people are likely to respond to a request for a such a call, from a stranger, even if they did study at the same university. How did you handle this? I have reached out to many people on LinkedIn, at companies relevant to me, but I found it very difficult to keep the discussion going with most of them and to build rapport etc.

This video was really reassuring as it is difficult to work as an assistant psychologist after the master's and I feel reassured that everyone is kind of figuring it out. Thanks for also talking about switching countries and how adapting to a different culture is also something that takes time and effort. Does funded phd get you qualified to be an ep? (like the funded doctorate training programmes)

    • @mypsychjourneyabroad
      @mypsychjourneyabroad หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi @ceren1695! If you study the DEdPsy (Doctorate in Educational Psychology), then you get to qualify as an EP :) If you study the DClinPsy (Doctorate in Clinical Psychology) then you get to qualify as a Clinical Psychologist. A phd is something different as it involves doing a 3-year (or more) research project (which could be funded), but doesn't qualify in any of the above. A doctorate, in the other hand, is about doing research as well, but also placements (depending on which type of doctorate, for example if it is the DEdPsy you'd be doing placements in schools/colleges) - it also takes 3 years (approx.) to complete.

    Hey, I am from India and I am planning to study msc psychology conversion from University college of east london. I have already completed a post graduate diploma in Counselling psychology and Master in social work Counselling. After taking this msc psychology conversion will i be able to work in this field in Uk, especially in NHS?

    • @mypsychjourneyabroad
      @mypsychjourneyabroad หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi @aryaajith5! Best of luck in your application for the Msc Conversion at UEL! Since you already have a background (Academic) in Psychology, it won't be something 100% new to study, as the conversion is a more 'broad' psych degree. It's important to note that to work in the NHS, you do not necessarily need to do a conversion! Depending on what role you would like to get in the NHS, you would or wouldn't need a conversion MSc. If you want, for example, a role as an AP (Assistant Psychologist) then you do need a conversion masters accredited by the BPS, but there's lots of other roles you can do to gain that relevant work experience (again, depending on the field you want to specialize afterwards). For this, you can check my video on 'Allied Psych Professions' I made :)

      @mypsychjourneyabroad 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi @jiblyjably! That's actually a great question! It will be different in each country inside Europe as well, but in particular in the UK, the first step would be to gain a BPS Graduate membership, that is, to apply for it with your non-UK qualifications, so they can assess them and see if it is considered 'equivalent' to having studied psychology (as an undergrad/or conversion) here. If it is not, then you would need to do a conversion masters with BPS accreditation (which takes 1 year full time/2 years part time).

    • @mypsychjourneyabroad
      @mypsychjourneyabroad 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi! Thanks for your question! You would first need to be registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), to be able to practice as an EP in the UK. The first step to do this is to complete the forms and pay the fee: www.hcpc-uk.org/globalassets/registration/application-forms/application-for-registration-international.pdf. You can read about the next steps in the official website: www.hcpc-uk.org/registration/getting-on-the-register/international-applications/ If you've read the criteria and decide you still don't have the necessary experience for registration with the HCPC (and thus practice as an EP here), then you can see if your MSc in Educational Psychology can count as a 'foundation' for further studies in the UK, that is, if it can be equivalent to having studied an undergrad in psychology, you can do so by applying for GBC (Graduate Basis for Chartered membership), and read the criteria in the official website: www.bps.org.uk/graduate-membership-gmbpss Hope this was useful! *Regarding the residency permit, that'll depend on which type of visa do you plan on applying to (student visa in case you're planning on doing further studies in the UK, or skilled worker visa in case you're planning on applying for jobs straightaway).

      Hi! If you want to do so in the UK, you would first need to apply for the GBC (Graduate Basis for Chartered membership), and to do so, you would need to have studied a bachelors (or conversion masters) in psychology, which has been approved by the British Psychological Society as conferring eligibility for GBC. After that, gaining 1 relevant work experience with children and young people (minimum), and then, applying to the DEdPsy (Doctorate in Educational Psychology).

      Hi @onyi2048! You can find these and many other types of roles, including salary ranges, in websites like: www.charityjob.co.uk/. But, typically, the salary range might vary between 28-35K, depending on previous experience/skills/and the type of role you're applying.

    Just a reminder the title "Psychologist" in the US requires the completion of a doctoral degree. The other professions you describe are not Psychologists. That said...very good info! 👍

      Thanks for your comment Jim! In the UK it works the same way as well, professions like Clinical Psychology, Educational Psychology, Counselling, Health Psychology, and some others, also require a doctorate of 3 years in order to use that title. Others that don't require a doctorate (like business psychology) do not use the title of 'Psychologists' to work in these areas, although they are still considered part of the core professions in psychology in the UK.
