The Donner Party Through The Wasatch Part 4 "Work Accomplished"
In 1846, the Donner Party was a group of American pioneers who set out for California in search of a better life. They took a fateful detour, following the Hastings Cutoff, which was a shorter but more treacherous route that led them through the Wasatch Mountains and the Great Salt Lake Desert.
The Wasatch Mountains are a rugged mountain range that runs north-south along the eastern edge of Utah. The Donner Party crossed the mountains in August, and they faced a number of challenges, including steep climbs, and narrow canyons.
The Donner Party's travels through the Wasatch Mountains was a major turning point in their tragic story. It was here that they became separated from other pioneer groups and began to experience the hardships that would ultimately lead to their demise.
In this video, we catch up to the Donner trail on the top of Big Mountain after leaving Mormon Flat. You will see just how precarious it could be to move a top-heavy wagon down a mountain and through narrow steep gorges. After visiting these places it just amazes me how these people did this.

Chichaqua Valley Paved Trail Review, Des Moines, IA

Here is another nice paved trail that I did while in Des Moines, Iowa. This was my third time to ride this trail. The first time I rode this I started from the old train station in Bondurant, the next time was from Lake Petocka. This time I took the Gay Lea Wilson trail to Chichaqua. The Gay Lea Wilson trail is nice but I think I enjoyed the Chichaqua a little bit more due mostly to the small t...

I was christened in that church. The school, post office and cemetery were originally on our land. My great grandfather deeded the land for public use. He was the first postmaster in the town. The building was originally a milk house. The cemetery was originally used to house cattle. The school had two classrooms one for lower grades and one for upper grades. Love your picture of the Witch rocks.

The breast works were camouflaged behind the cliffs. When Johnson’s army came through the pioneers fled from station and lit fires to make it appear that the pioneer army was much larger than it actually was.

Before I-80 went through, the road you are traveling was part of the old highway into Wyoming. My dad and uncles used to camp at sawmill as children. My dad was nearly run over in the parking space when a semi truck driver decided to park there in the middle of the night. There was very little traffic on the highway those days. He also helped repair the railroad ties in the canyon. If you were to look to the left instead of back up the canyon you would see a brown house sitting a top of the hill. My cousins still live there. The family farm sits below it. We used to hike up behind the cliffs. Echo point was a favorite place as one can see Echo Canyon, the reservoir and the Weber river.

This is very interesting to me as my family is from Echo Junction. They settled in the area in the 1860’s. We are much more familiar with the Mormon trail.

It is a Garmin Edge 530. It has a lot of functions, it tracks speed, distance, time, cadence when paired with a cadence sensor, heart rate when paired with a heart rate strap, power when paired with a power meter pedals or crank. It also does GPS and when paired with your phone and using Trailforks will tell you where you are at on the the trail. There is a lot more but those are the functions I mostly use. It's awesome to hear at 74 your getting out there I hope to still be doing this at 74.
