Trains at Reading, 15/07/2024 (1080p HD)
Reading is a major interchange station located at the confluence of the branches of the Great Western Main Line. With its 14 platforms, it sees a huge variety of services operated by Great Western Railway using their Class 165s/166s, 387s and 800/802 sets, CrossCountry using Class 220/221 Voyager sets, South Western Railway, and plenty of freight.
This was my second visit to Reading, and a lot has changed in the past few years, with the continued electrification of the GWML out west bringing 387s to Newbury. I thoroughly enjoyed my visit here - with Reading lying close to many of the West Country quarries there's plenty of freight traffic too. The presence of structures across all platforms can make photography a bit difficult, but it's still an exciting experience to film here.

    I needed to know why they couldn’t dig a tunnel and do an extension for most of the mainline Trains so that they could extend the unused abandoned underground train stations. Why couldn’t they use the part D78 Stock train doors on the sides and also restructure the front face of the A60 and A62 stock which will include the class 507, class 508, class 313, class 314 and class 315 remix and make them all together and also redesign all of them into an overhead wire line trains and also make most of them into Five carriages per units and also having three Disabled Toilets on those Five cars per units A60 and A62 stock trains and also convert the A60 and A62 stock trains into a Scania N113, Gardner 6LXC, Leyland 680, Volvo D10M, Gardner 6LXCT, Leyland 510, Volvo B10M, Gardner 6LXB, Cummins M11 and Gardner 8LXB Diesel Engines and also put the Loud 6 Speed Voith Gearboxes even Loud 10 Speed Leyland Hydra cyclic Gearboxes in the A60 and A62 stock, class 507, class 508, class 313, class 314, and class 315 and also modernise the A60 and A62 stock and make it into 10 carriages per unit so it could have fewer doors, more tables, computers and mobile phone chargers? A Stock Train and Seven Disabled Toilets on those A stock trains. why couldn’t we refurbish and modernise the waterloo and city line Triple-Track train tunnel and make it even much more Larger and extend it to the bank station, making it into a Triple-Track Railway Line so those Five countries such as Australia, Germany, Italy, Poland And Sweden to convert the waterloo and city line Triple-Track Railway tunnel into a High-Speed Railway lines? Why couldn't they extend the Bakerloo Line and also build brand-new underground train stations so it could go even further right up to Clapton, Wood Street can they also make another brand new underground train station in Chingford and could they extend the Bakerloo Line and the DLR right up to Chingford? All of the classes 150, 155, 154, 106, 105, and 117, will be replaced by all of the Gardner 6LXCT, Scania N113, Gardner 6LXC, Volvo D10M, Leyland 680, Leyland 510, Cummins M11, Volvo B10M, Gardner 6LXB, and Gardner 8LXB Diesel Five carriages three disabled toilets are air conditioning trains including Highams Park for extended roots which is the Bakerloo line and the DLR trains. Could you also convert all of the 1972 stock trains into an air-conditioned maximum speed 76 km/hours (46 MPH) re-refurbished and make it into a 7 cars per unit if that will be alright, and also extend all of the Bakerloo train stations to make more space for all of the extended 7 car per unit 1972 stock air condition trains and can you also build another Mayflower and Tornado Steam Locomotive Companies and can they order Every 57 Octagon and Every 88 Hexagon shape LNER diagram unique small no.14 and unique small no.11 Boilers from those Countries such as Greece, Italy, Poland, and Sweden, can they make Mayflower and Tornado Steam Locomotive speeds by up to 127MPH so you can try and test it on the Original Mainline so it will be much more safer for the Passengers to enjoy the 127MPH speed Limit only for HS2 and Channel Tunnel mainline services, if they needed 14 Carriages Per units, can they use those Deltic class 40’s Deltic class 44’s, Deltic class 46’s and class 43HST Diesel Locomotive’s right at the Back of those 16 Carriages Per Units so they can take over at the Back to let those Mayflower and Tornado Steam Locomotive’s have a rest for those interesting Journeys Please!!!!!!!!, oh can you make all of those 17 Tonne Boxes of Coal for all of those 127MPH Mayflower and Tornado Steam Locomotive’s so the Companies will Understand us PASSENGER’S!!!!!!! Victoria line trains sometimes terminate at Seven Sisters if they're heading to the depot at Northumberland Park. Between Seven Sisters and Tottenham Hale, there's a junction that takes Victoria line trains up to the depot. It's fairly common to see trains terminating at Seven Sisters around rush hour, or right at the end of the day when trains need to head back to the depot.

Add an extra 30 mins onto the time if you want to include GWR! Unfortunately GWR don't stop at Ealing Broadway, Southall, Hayes or West Drayton anymore so it's not possible to do the main GWML out of Paddington.

      There is such a challenge for the tube lines - the Tube Challenge, where you have to visit all 272 London Underground stations in the quickest time possible (which is just about possible in one day!) If you were to do this for all the National Rail and TfL operated services in London, this would take you at least two days, perhaps three.

      I see, looking on bustimes.org. I agree, a bit of a strange choice with all the narrow roads on the route, particularly close to Ripon. The Evoras have more powerful engines which would be better for the faster, open sections of the route north of Thirsk.

The Volvo Hybrid (B5LH) is a bit more distinguishable as it has a weird back end, but they managed to get the Streetdeck powertrain to fit in to a similar shaped rear as the B5TL. The X7 is probably the longest single stretch in the journey south to north of England or vice versa (which I've also done). It's thanks to this route that the journey can be completed in two days and not three. However three days is nicer, gives you chance for proper lunch breaks instead of rubbish snacking (and no cheaper in the end), for toileting, and stretching your legs. However, you can include across into Scotland on your third day.

    Someone complained about an hour-and-a-half in just one bus!!! When you're going across Britain (as in this guy's video) you're looking at 13 hours a day, and virtually the same the following day.! You must get fit before you can attempt these things, even though you're sitting for most of the day.

      It's surprising how tiring sitting on a bus for two days is! I brought a cushion along with me for emergencies. Some bus seats can be really quite uncomfortable unfortunately. I ended up using the cushion on the Skylink between Leicester and Derby in one of the previous parts - perhaps one of the worst seats of the trip on one of its longest legs.

    Great challenge! If you haven't already I would suggest you do this challenge going towards Cornwall instead. I think it would be more challenging than going north due to the lack of high density bus networks and demand in the south west of England but also just as rewarding with the beautiful scenery.

    Amazing, glad you were able to get this out! * The 36 is absolutely gorgeous isn't it? And this is the old bus, I can't wait to try out the new ones they've just introduced. * Hodgsons run a tidy little operation and the drivers are so skilled on them roads. Bus was really clean when I took it too! * What was the reason you stopped where you did? What mic do you use to capture your voice on the bus? It is really nice and clear with not much background noise. Also what camera do you use? Look forward to more journeys soon! Doing one through London on Friday which I hope to film and upload soon!

      Thank you! Sorry for the late reply, I loved your latest video, it was great to see some of the journeys I made just a few months ago but in the opposite direction! The 36 was perhaps one of the best bus routes I've been on in England. From the scenery to the comfort to the onboard amenities, there's very little to complain about. It would have been possible to get to the north side of Newcastle within the time period (or perhaps Alnwick if you got very lucky with connections). As I live in the south (and LNER southbound services end fairly early) I decided to end the journey in Aycliffe to reduce the risk of missing the last train back (had things gone pear-shaped). In terms of microphone, I use the built-in mic on my DJI Osmo Pocket camera. It's great for capturing voice as you mention, but it's a very directional mic and any sound more than a few metres away isn't captured as well as other mics. I think mics on the newer models (like the Pocket 3) have better omnidirectional response. Have a great Christmas break :)

      @@ShieldTransport Different liveries would be nice, but what if most/all the trains on one line are out of service in the depot?

    • @ItsAllAboutTheJourney
      @ItsAllAboutTheJourney 29 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Normally, under the strict maintenance schedules that depots have to do, a depot should never run out of trains. Even if stock was used from other lines, I don't think normal passengers would notice.

    Ah I see what you did ; Harrowgate Hill just outside Darlington; Far enough North in order to get your Train back south; Its been an interesting watch; Though I still think you could have got as far as Newcastle ( Whitley Bay or Tynemouth) if you had caught an 840 from Leeds; I hope one day you'll come back up North and see what delights await you; Even try , where you left off in Darlington to continue the journey to wherever it may take you;

    An entertaining video. The bus up the Yorkshire coast from Scarborough to Whitby is a superb ride is highly recommended. Whitby bus station (adjacent to the railway station) is fairly well served by the local buses. If you have a bit of spare time the pub in the station does a nice beer! Next year, perhaps you should try a route to (say) King's Lynn and up the East Coast from there (it could be the £3 bus challenge). Also the London - Doncaster fare can be considerably below the (non-railcard) walk up cost. With advance booking a bit over £20 is achievable.

    • @ItsAllAboutTheJourney
      @ItsAllAboutTheJourney 23 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Would definitely love to try the bus around the North Yorkshire coast, a shame I didn't manage to try them out on this trip. Hull Trains/Grand Central do offer very well priced Doncaster-London fares; getting much further north can be a bit pricey.
