Thameslink haven't ever run services to East Midlands Parkway, or beyond Bedford for that matter. I believe the announcements are in the system for connecting to East Midlands Railway services. But you never know, Thameslink may be considering running into the Midlands...

Ah interesting, I see both these places are in Surrey too! As for the incident with the 555, I flagged the bus down clearly as with any other bus in London. The thing that makes this worse is, If you watch the video closely in the section where the bus drives past, the driver looks round to see me for a good couple of seconds but still drives straight past. On a more worrying experience I had travelling on the 555 between Hatton Cross and Heathrow, there was a couple onboard headed for the airport with large suitcases who didn't speak great English. They were clearly flustered and in a rush to make their flight. A minute or so after arriving into Hatton Cross, the driver left the cab to have an unscheduled smoke break for almost five minutes. The couple understandably took offence to this and confronted the driver when he returned. From this conversation I learnt that the previous 555 service had not run without any explanation from the company or the driver, and were now over an hour later than they originally intended. The driver, who was absolutely fuming at this point, proceeded to dangerously drive the bus as quickly as he could to Heathrow, well over the speed limit. I never knew whether the couple made their flight or not but I have a feeling they may never use the 555 again - I likely never will. I've contacted Diamond Bus twice now to complain about these incidents. Beyond an automated SMTP acknowledgement from their mail server, I'm still yet to hear any response from the company.

I'd definitely like to a Transport Roulette round there at some point- I realise that south west London is the only corner we haven't yet visited. It's really difficult to predict where a game of Transport Roulette will take you but I'll definitely consider it!

That's a fantastic deal! Eurostar fares really do vary like air fares, you seem to need to book them well in advance.

Interesting question - the 387s with Gatwick Express are normally maintained at either Selhurst or Brighton depots, however neither of these depots have a wheel lathe. Gatwick Express (and occasionally Southern) send their 377s and 387s up to Hornsey depot, which does have a wheel lathe, to keep the train wheels in good condition.

Was definitely quite tiring! With short connections there wasn't really any opportunity to sit down for very long except on the less busy trains.

GWR unfortunately do not stop in London anymore after departing Paddington. GWR services no longer stop at Ealing Broadway or Hayes and Harlington and now run direct to Slough. This is a new change which was brought around when the Elizabeth line timetable on the GWML was increased in late 2022, and is the reason why it was featured in our previous 2021 All Lines Challenge but not this edition. Thanks for raising this!

All of the London Overground lines are operated by the same entity within TfL and share a common fleet of rolling stock. Doing all the Overground lines is a challenge in itself - maybe next time... (Also, we filmed this video in April 2024 when the new Overground line names had only just been revealed - I tentatively referred to the Hackney Wick to Stratford section as the Mildmay line expecting the new line names to be introduced before the video was released.)

I love the Meridian too - the First Class on the Meridian is probably one of my favourites on any intercity train in the UK. It'll be a shame to see them gone even if EMR are running them into the ground a bit.

I meant to refer to locations such as Tottenham Court Road and Bond Street which are more centrally located in zone 1 - apologies for the lack of clarity.

SWR have only stated so far that these units will be used on Weybridge services and Twickenham loop services. It's possible that they may turn up on these routes in the future but I don't believe any will run on the Shepperton branch at the moment.

These units were actually refurbished with the intention of using them on Waterloo - Portsmouth Hbr fast services,hence the 100mph max.speed.Don't yet know if that's still the intention.

SWR announced just a few months back that these services will not be used on Portsmouth services, and will remain on London suburban services for the moment to supplement the 701s as they are introduced.
