The weighing test: there are so many ways of faking that. An obvious one is the test masses used. Did he show what those test masses measure on a similar scale that had been zeroized at that location and showed that they matched what was claimed? That is a very difficult test to carry out properly even without any fraud. Did he provide a list of all the 'controls' that he would be using in the different locations to prove his claims are correct? i.e. The only variable was the location on the earth? p.s. Notice as no time in the entire history of 'science' has there every been any 'science test' to confirm that the physical earth actually behaves as we are taught as regards moving. As someone with a scientific background, whether to call it an experiment or not is, in this case, not that easy. The *only* thing it lacks compared to an experiment, in the classical sense, is the direct manipulation of a single variable, like you would in a laboratory experiment. However.. we cant exactly manipulate, say, earths tilt, so that's a nonsensical point to make. Everything else is checked. The final experiment made predictions based on existing models, tested them across multiple conditions (from locations over sunspot tracking to weight measurements) and draws conclusions based on whether the results align with those predictions. At the very, very least it is a highly controlled observational study, but considering the only thing it lacks is something it cant achieve, there is no issue calling it an experiment. An object will appear smaller the further away it is, and bigger the closer it is. That the sun does not change in apparant size, no mattr where on earth you observe it, consequently means that the distance between any two possible observers on earth is *negligible* compared to the distance of the sun. And *that* is why we can assume it to be extremely far away, and its light rays to be parallel. To add some real math, earth has a diameter of 12.742 kilometers, but the distance to the sun is 150.000.000 kilometers. So two people standing on opposite sides of earth, utilizing that full distance, will be hit by light rays that only differ by an angle of arctan(12.742/150.000.000) = 0.00485 radians = 0.278°. However, since earth is a globe, the effect on shadows, as seen by Erastoteles, is much bigger much sooner. And since that's the case, especially when only talking about a singular location on earth, all light rays can be assumed to be parallel, and with that all shadows (caused by the sun) will always be parallel in all images.
