Idiot deciphers metal logo at 2am
This footage was recorded in anticipation of episode 32 of Deciphering Metal Logos to be released on Instagram. DML, for short, is part of an ongoing series in which I attempt to accurately identify all of the letters in slam metal, death metal, black metal, doom metal, grindcore, and deathcore logos - often with some guidance from the original designer.

Metal logo vs Photoshop paint bucket tool
มุมมอง 73821 วันที่ผ่านมา
Watch the riveting showdown unfold between a metal logo that has more than one trick up its sleeve and a point-and-click tool that's been in Photoshop since 1988. WHO WILL WIN??? This one's gonna put you on the edge of your seats, folks. But seriously, if the assumed positive space of this logo was properly enclosed to begin with, this thing wouldn't pose that much of a threat. It is "solvable"...
The metal logo straight out of Berserk
มุมมอง 935หลายเดือนก่อน
This densely-packed amalgamation of humanoid monster parts is actually supposed to say something? You should be used to this by now. In all honesty, this logo is not all that hard to figure out with the band's name in hand. The difficulty comes from largely from the complexity of its design and only partially from a couple of not-so-apparent letterforms - meaning it is more intimidating than an...
This metal logo needs an official solution
มุมมอง 917หลายเดือนก่อน
What is a metal logo without an explanation provided by its original designer but an excess of somewhat attractive scribbles? Although much of this video was spent shooting in the dark for first the name of the band and later the solution itself, I later teamed up with Kod's Metal Logos to try and nail down where the letters are supposed to be. The second half of the logo is significantly easie...
Animate chamfered corners in Adobe After Effects
มุมมอง 41หลายเดือนก่อน
Tired of that dated rounded corners aesthetic? Now you can animate yourself some dynamic CHAMFERED CORNERS in After Effects to really drive home that neo-industrial / brutalist / cyberpunk look. And it only takes a couple of basic additions to your shape layer! I wasn't able to find the usual "helpful hints" or "quick tips" video for making adjustable diagonal corners on TH-cam or elsewhere, so...
This metal logo taught me Latin
มุมมอง 701หลายเดือนก่อน
An unreadable metal logo with five letters would normally be a walk in the park... unless the letters aren't exactly there in the first place. And especially not if it's in Latin. This logo is reminiscent of modern cybersigilism and is almost entirely symmetrical, save for a couple of small details that gave me nothing more than hints as to what and where the letters are. It is distinct from th...
Rating Metal Logos in 2024 (the overcomplicated way)
มุมมอง 760หลายเดือนก่อน
Are you looking for a concrete and precise method for determining the difficulty of an illegible metal logo you found on some worn out shirt at your local thrift shop? Well my friend, Octave Industries has delivered - in the form of an overcomplicated spreadsheet accessible FOR FREE via Google Docs. After almost 30 episodes of Deciphering Metal Logos, I have put together a rubric for rating met...
This metal logo is MISSING LETTERS???
มุมมอง 5632 หลายเดือนก่อน
Just about everything that could have gone wrong with this potential episode of Deciphering Metal Logos... did. Although this time it didn't have anything to do with the logo being difficult or near-impossible to read. Disregarding my incompetence resulting in a prolonged recording without any audio, it doesn't seem like all 51 letters of "Eximperituserqethhzebibšiptugakkathšulweliarzaxułum" sh...

Deciphering my first SOCIALLY UNACCEPTABLE metal logo
มุมมอง 2.7K6 หลายเดือนก่อน
The second metal logo I chose to decipher without any assistance or external input turned out to be a little disappointing because I won't be able to feature it on my Instagram or TikTok... for reasons you may be able to assume based on the title. That aside, I still have an appreciation for the logo's design (the silhouette of which reminds me of a crab) on both a large and small scale. This t...
Metal Logo BOSS ENCOUNTER (it took me WEEKS!)
มุมมอง 2.9K9 หลายเดือนก่อน
Second only to Xavleg, one of the most highly requested metal logos finally has a place in the DML roster and not to mention some extensive behind the scenes footage! Over the course of about a month or so, I communicated with the logo's designer Bridgette Barnes who was generous enough to provide hints along my way to the solution. Sanguisugabogg's logo is instantly-recognizable to many becaus...
I had to TRACK DOWN the designer of this metal logo...

🔽 Expand description to see the band's name 🔽 Take a look behind the scenes as I obsess over yet another LEVEL 5 DIFFICULTY metal logo for an irrational amount of time. This one is deceptively difficult as the letterforms are inconsistent in width, and many have strange extensions and extra "strokes" that will surely confuse even the most well-trained of eyes. Including mine. This logo was subm...
"ONE THOUSAND" Metal Logo Design Timelapse
มุมมอง 1.4K10 หลายเดือนก่อน
I made this metal-inspired lettering to say thank you for my first 1000 followers on Instagram... only to see that number grow over six times over in the past week. All of you are making what I have envisioned for Octave Industries possible, and I cannot express enough appreciation for that. This design was made entirely in Procreate. Two graphic designers VS an UNREADABLE metal logo

Using Guides in Illustrator CC - tips from an Adobe Certified Expert
you should also start a series of deciphering wildstyle graffiti, wildstyle graffiti is very similar to band logos with really distorted letter structures and random extentions. even upon knowing the name, deciphering the wildstyle is practically impossible
Recommended!
sick as hell
Bro you are a wizard at this!! I dont know how you managed this one... crazy logo!!
Oh you haven't seen the least of it -- check out "Metal Logo BOSS ENCOUNTER". At least the letters are all somewhat distinct in this one!
couldnt you just put a contrast filter on and inverse the colors?
awesome
im at 10:40 and I will guess Spontaneous Lightning Spear
damn
@@notmoribund hey I'll give you credit for trying! I like the sound of that haha
I love sandwichsausagedog
underrated af keep it up
@@akooatic thank you! That's the plan :)
Unless you think it would spoil the magic, it would be cool at the very end to colour each letter different such that us mere mortals have a chance of seeing what you see
@@Untoldanimations nah that's not really what I'm worried about! Part of the reason I don't is because that more or less takes place in the companion series I run on Instagram... but especially for logos like this one, that doesn't always help. A color-separated walkthrough is a good idea.
@@OctaveIndustries ya I came from your Instagram. Even though I’m a fan of quite a few of the bands you decipher, I still to this day don’t know how to read their logos even after you point out the letters.
why did i get so invested
For such a cool logo the band name really dissapointed me. Rest of their style is on point as well though.
I really enjoyed the video! Very glad I clicked the recommendation. At the end, it would've been really cool to have each individual letter highlighted in a contrasting color so that the viewer could try to hold the entire name in their head all at once.
Yeah I agree, I could have done a better job of clarifying them individually. The reel I uploaded to Instagram that covers this logo does that pretty quickly, but it's still admittedly pretty hard to pick up on. Thanks for the feedback!
really cool logo
such a fucking rad logo, hell yeah
i thouht that said 668k views what
One of the best "why is this in me recommended videos" I had so far. Crossing my fingers the all powerful alogrithm is doing it's thing and your channel tenfolds in subs before the end of the month, would definetly be deserved.
Your prayers to the algorithm will not go unrecognized.
The title killed me 😂
Glad my mild self-deprecation paid off 👍
3:40 Kitty :D
Like... that's what those letters look like to you? Haha
@@OctaveIndustries yeah the lines you highlighted in yellow at that timestamp kinda look like a cat's side profile. KINDA lol.
@@gabet7193oh I SEE IT NOW
Please never stop making these fr, I love these vids and I hope other people appreciate them as well and that you make it big on TH-cam
Much love, thank you :)
This is hilarious. XD
Till this day, I still don't know how the Beziers work. I don't think anybody knows...
if you want a much cleaner fill that is less time consuming just select the logo itself , right click do select inverse , add a new layer , fill that layer with your desired color of choice and then just remove any color that is outside of the logo itself. if there's areas that are still somewhat not filled in properly just go to layerstyle and put stroke on it just less time consuming and more efficient.
Still trying to figure out how to read Party Canon's logo. Shit's gotta be a 6/5 for sure.
hell yeah
at first I thought it was a liquid death brand tie in
I bide my time...
I'm waiting to see the metal logos I submitted via instagram to show up XD
new strat just dropped
no guarantee it'll work for any other logo out there haha
Metal 🤘🤘
Man I am really hoping for a feature length film for Xavleg
Btw I messaged you on tiktok, my finished logo for 'cream' is finished too.
is there anywhere I can see it?
Primitive rage is fucking amazing
cool
this is really cool dude, thank you.
Copied over from Instagram: "Sooo I should have done more research on this logo, because apparently it's a much more complicated version of what Civerous was using previously. You can see from the original that the letters are intended to be much more consistent in height and structure than what I suggested here, but I can argue that some of those details do not carry over into this version. Regardless - it's definitely subject to interpretation."
Fantastic band and logo, thanks for this breakdown🖤🤘🤘
Absolutely! Always happy to see some fans (of the band themselves) in the crowd :)
i feel one that could be added is a "symbols/objects as letters". like when bands use a pentagram or the noise not music symbol as an O, the inverted cross or sword T, the logo for "forbidden tomb" has a axe for the f and n. i notice people get tripped up on those type of things in logos
Good point! This hasn't come into play yet because I haven't really reviewed any logos that employ that technique, but absolutely worth considering. Thanks for the suggestion!
That wasn’t too bad to figure out
Yeah in retrospect it probably shouldn't have taken me this long. This one could have been solved using the ol' "gaussian blur and levels" trick.
Love this analysis! The designer was Shane Turner and as a result of many member changes over the years, none of the current members know Shane to my knowledge.
Thanks for the info -- and I'm glad you enjoyed it! I just updated the description accordingly. Also good to know that the disconnection wasn't a result of Shane being excommunicated from the band or something of the like.
crepe station would make a hilarious band name.
Was debating cutting that clip but I'm glad I kept it in there. Once I can start streaming my metal logo designs, I'll be sure "Crepe Station" is on my to-do list.
man, I love these. lost footage or not. its so much fun to "play along at home"
That's a funny way to look at it haha. Glad you're enjoying them! :)
You should absolutely do the Grave Altar logo, I would love to see how you figure that out 😭
There is SO much material Kod has put out that would give me a run for my money. I'll have to start somewhere though!
i really enjoyed this video despite the lost footage, was fun to see the alternate version of the logo and how it differed
great channel
I love this and it’s very interesting but you gotta admit this is autism extreme
Deleted/Lost/Corrupted footage is a fact of this line of work. No worries man
You're right... but it definitely hurt a lot more knowing that in some state of insufficient consciousness I decided to go through my footage folder to free up space and deleted not just the recording I would have used here but a couple of significant files. Appreciate the understanding though!
how do you only have 600 subs dude your content is very high quality and entertaining keep it up
Glad you're enjoying it! I've been gaining some momentum recently, so thanks to people like you I'm moving up in the world :)
Do you stream these live somewhere? would be lovely to watch
That is something I would like to do in the future! I've also thought about streaming my metal logo design process, and that's something that a lot of my Instagram followers seemed to be interested in. The problem right now is that my desktop computer broke and I'm currently working off of my laptop... which is not powerful enough to handle a streaming setup. As soon as I can afford it I'll get a new desktop.
Nah don't worry they're all in there trust me
great idea, really looking forward to whatever happens to it and whichever way it progresses ^^ (also somewhat related - I'm following a lot of goregrind/gorenoise labels and there's recently been a trend of these kinds of bands straight up using heavily processed and monochromed pictures aa logos lmao)
I've seen quite a few different "stylistic" approaches to metal band logos, but I can't say I've come across any like that. Do you have any band names that I could look up as examples off the top of your head?
@@OctaveIndustries okay, had to search a bit because a lot of these bands are super underground, but here are some of them: Fungal Takeover, Botched Anastomosis J-Pouch, Gastroparesis. There are arguably better examples but it's kind of difficult to actively search for them (sometimes the band names are not even listed on posts with splits :c ) I seem to remember this being more of a thing in the Asian scene, but don't quote me on that 😅
