    What Makes The Water go up to the shower head?

    • @morganinspectionservices3840
      @morganinspectionservices3840 8 วันที่ผ่านมา

      When the shower diverter is pulled up, it blocks the flow of the water to the spout and forces it up the tube/pipe that goes to the showerhead. The pressure of the water at the tub spout holds the shower diverter in place.

    I’ve been told to use vinegar instead of bleach - and for either flush the line afterward with hot water as both can be caustic to the PVC over time. Yes? No?

    • @morganinspectionservices3840
      @morganinspectionservices3840 15 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yes. Vinegar is also a good cleaning agent. It is acidic and can clear away buildup in the line. I have always used bleach, and it has worked well for me. Vinegar might be a little safer to use, so I may give that a try and see how it works. It is always good to rinse out the line with water after cleaning. You do, however, want to leave the bleach or vinegar in the line long enough to do what it’s intended to do before rinsing.

    How does the earthed grounding rod the panel is bonded to factor into this issue . .if you now have voltage on the Neutral and its also bonded to the Grounding rod ?. I do understand there will be restance in the ground path as its not going to be a perfect low restance connection to the center tap of the power companys supply transformer.

    • @morganinspectionservices3840
      @morganinspectionservices3840 15 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yes, the earth is actually a very poor conductor of electricity, so it really does not provide a path back to the ground/neutral from the transformer. With voltage on the ground and/or neutral bus in the panel, you will have a little bit of current flowing through the grounding electrode conductor and to the ground rod, but since it is such a low impedance path, I think you will have less than 3 or 4 Amps of current so I think it’s effect is almost negligible.

    Call the power company as the problem is their neutral. If you call a electrician you will be stuck for service call $ , and they don't work on power company lines.. This could be over $100 for a minimum call The power company will service and fix the neutral connection.no charge. These electrical neutral problem s are dangerous and eerie. Our aluminum framed screen porch was measuring 40 to 70 volts. My dog yipped as she went outside because the aluminum frame and door was electrified. I put my fluke black lead into the nearby ground (soil) and the red lead on some aluminum - ac voltages were all over the place. I think the electricity found a ground but also found a ground that energized the aluminum frame which was also grounded. 😮😮

    If history is any indication, it will only be a matter of not if, but when, two pole dual function breakers are in every major panel manufacturers lineup, at a rather hefty price tag of course. To my knowledge only some panel manufacturers, Siemens and square D are ones I'm aware of, that make two pole combination AFCI breakers. And going forward this can get more critical with time because from about the 1960s to 1990s mutiwire branch circuits eg. (a 12/3 NM cable provides two 120V circuits using the black and red sharing a neutral) were popular for the two required kitchen countertop receptacles and possibly other areas in the home such as larger great rooms, as a means of saving money in labor and materials. These homes are now showing their age, and it's a well-known fact that the risk of arc faults increases with age, and two pole dual function breakers would provide the added protection you want in older kitchens wired with 12/3.

      No. The homeowner owns everything on the “house side” of the electrical connections where the service ties onto the home. The drip loop is on the house side of these connections, so the drip loop belongs to the homeowner.

    So why didn't the tester flag open neutral? Rather than hot ground reverse

    • @morganinspectionservices3840
      @morganinspectionservices3840 19 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Watch the video again. With an open neutral and a load plugged in, the voltage carries through to the neutral side so you have a hot hot, a hot neutral, and a non-hot ground. The tester interprets this as a “hot ground reverse.” That was the whole point of the video to explain that if you get a ground reverse on the tester, you actually have an open neutral with a load plugged in and turned on.

    Glad to come across this video. My son had this happen in his house, his master bedroom had one outlet working and the rest of the outlets and lights only registered 60v. Had "electricians" come out and they were dumb founded, said probably a loose connection somewhere. Power came back on so they charged $275 and left. Power back off in a couple of days. We replaced the breaker and all outlets and switches in the room, nothing. Another technician came out and a loose neutral wire under the house in an outlet. Another $175. What was odd was the power came into the room at one outlet, back out to under the house then back to the room. It was the one under the house that threw us off, I would have thought it was 1st in line before the room.

    Not sure exactly how old it is I can figure it out tonight when I get home from work. And yes I have a voltage meter.

    • @morganinspectionservices3840
      @morganinspectionservices3840 22 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I did some research and found a few things. A couple of easy things to do - First make sure that every connection you did to install the cord is tight. The multimeter is not going to be easy to use after all. I thought you could test the motor by just checking the resistance between the prongs on the cord. Some research I found also said that beside the motor possibly going out, the heating element could be going out. Lint buildup could restrict airflow and cause overheating. I would check those things to see what you find. If you don’t find anything, I would probably report it to the builder and see if they could have the electrician double check the breaker to make sure that there’s not a problem with the breaker. That’s unlikely, but it’s always possible.

  • @RachelCook-o4b

    • @morganinspectionservices3840
      @morganinspectionservices3840 22 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Since you have to run two or three loads before it trips, I’m thinking it is not a GFCI problem. If you had done something wrong installing the new cord, I think the breaker whip trip immediately. I think it’s probably tripping on overcurrent. If the dryer motor is going out, the motor windings could be breaking down causing it to pull more current. Possibly, as you run multiple loads, the motor gets hotter, the resistance goes down and the current goes up, which could cause the breaker to trip. How old is the dryer and do you own a multimeter?

      I really want to help you figure this this out. Right now I’m a little bit baffled. That breaker could be tripping on overcurrent, or it could be tripping because of a ground fault. • @RachelCook-o4b

      If you live in a newer house and have what we call dual function circuit breakers (normally with a purple test button) then you can do a little test. Watch this very short video and do the test. That will be the first thing to do to figure out why it might be tripping. If you don’t have these type of circuit breakers, let me know, and I’ll see what I can do to help you figure this out. th-cam.com/video/LMTl4Zs8lXA/w-d-xo.htmlsi=RFggUQmV46MbOcjE

    I think that problem only happens in countries using 120 volts because they have three cables going to their house from the transformer (+120v, 0v, -120v). In countries using 240 volts that's not a problem because they only have two cables going to their house from the transformer. If they lose one of the cables the light won't turn on.

      Yes, you are correct. It only happens in countries where the voltage is split at the transformer, so countries that only use 220 or 240 V do not encounter this same problem.
