Love it!
I did not know the back story for that song. Both of them of course are among the best songwriters of their generation. Freewheeling stars.
This possible back story is just based on a quote by JT where he wasn't necessarily talking about this song, so it's just a conjecture. Joni herself didn't talk about back stories to her songs, preferring them to stand on their own.
One of my favorite songs by her.
Fantastic production of music & so forth & then something happened -
Wow. Just found this. I just watched the Joni Mitchell videos all of them. Unbelievable if you guys put this together, you really love and no music. And obviously videos.
THANK YOU!! We only do videos of songs we really love, and I've found that the best way to really get to know a song is to make a video of it! The only Joni song left is the great "River", which will come out on Friday.
Very moving.
BRILLIANT! Whom ever put this together: you really understand Joni! 👏 The juxtaposition of one of music's finest albums with one of movie's finest films: BRAVO! 🤩
Thank you so much for your compliment! Check out the rest of our Joni series, as well as our series on Roy Harper, Tim Buckley, and Love Forever Changes!
The don't make cartoons like this anymore! It's terrrific.
What a great song!! (Haven't heard it. in decades.)
Most overrated artist possibly in history, most of his musical/piano riffs are stolen from old jazz/blues songs. He didn't even try to hide it. Nothing original about him.
His affected gravel voice alone is unique. Nice to hear his original voice on this one though. He has successfully composed hits for other people. It's true he uses familiar chords, phrases and cadences. So does everyone else in Western music. Downtown train demonstrates his unique genius, not just in composition but in arrangement and delivery too - compare it with the more widely heard version by Rod Stewart and you may gain a better understanding of "overrated".
It’s the way he combines stuff, especially from Swordfish Trombone onwards, he is unique, a lot of soul both respects and extends the tradition of blues and jazz, and what a body of work
@@mustafa1name Personally I love this first period, specifically this record. His lyrics are amazing, and in this period he was actually a great singer. I always thought that he purposely made his voice overly raspy, which I never understood. So I don't like his later material as much, though he also wrote great lyrics and songs in some of his later albums. But this album is his masterpiece, in my opinion!
Best in a while!
Thanks, Cells!
No me importaría que te tirarás una buena temporada con Mr. Waits. ¡¡Fantástico!!
Voy a hacer este disco entero!

Excellent!!
Video of the day for me. Fantastic song made even better by this edit. Next challenge one of the surreal Dylan songs 😂
Right now I'm working on Tom Waits heart of Saturday Night, and I've already done one Bob Dylan song (a sort of double Spanish/English version: th-cam.com/video/bLlQlcEC_MQ/w-d-xo.html), but a Bob Dylan series is a great idea!
@@notalk-justwalk4597really look forward to seeing this 😊
Sneaky Pete Kleinow on pedal steel--natch.
Love the imagery.
No hay personas allí? 😮
Sí, pero suelo ir a los sitios en temporada baja, pronto por la mañana, y entresemana. Me gusta la sensación de vacío y silencio. Pero si vas allí en verano, habrá gente.
Not David Blue?
Never heard that connection ... Who knows??? 😅
thanks for the info!
Yes, I have loved this song for sooo long, glad to hear it again after years. I shared this video with my bff, Katherine, she was close to Redbone’s manager & we saw Redbone several times for free, they covered this song, that’s where we heard it 1st. Heard Jim Pepper on KMET and KLOS out of LA, the brain held the memories for years, so thrilled to hear it again, I have played it over and over again.
If I can add, the Frost sans Dick Wagner were the Chevelles from Alpena, Dick Wagner was leader of the Bossmen who played out of Saginaw, the other members of the Bossmen went on to other things, Pete tje drummer was part of Popcorn Blizzard so was Meatloaf, Warren went to join Hank Williams Jr's band not sure what happened to Lanny. I was MC/DJ at a string of teen night clubs in Saginaw, Alpena, Lansing etc called Daniels Den, worked many show with them.
As an aside, Chuck Mitchell was a Detroit folks singer. I saw him once and he had zero talent; his only fame was that he was married to Joni.
LOVED this song groiwing up. Great arrangement
How beautiful. They either can't or won't write lyrics like this today
True ... Styles have changed. These lyrics are really heartbreaking...
This is marvelous!
Grande la Mitchell! Gracias Paul. 😊
Gracias a ti, Juanca!
If the Beatles had recorded this song this is what it would have sounded like.. especially at 1.16
Excellent song from T. Rex's 1971 album, Electric Warrior.. Thanks for posting the song 😊
Never would have put T Rex and ballet together but it works!
Sin la letra no se valoraría tanto
Great one Paul. I give it about a 73. Happy birthday Stanislaus!

How I miss Arthur Lee. What a clear voice, what lyrics ❤❤❤❤
Actually, this is one of the few songs that were wrote and sung by Bryan MacLean. They had similar voices.
Don't think you were here in '73. This is the the feller that wrote the song. Died why to soon . He's an old Houston boy, and a damn good song writer.🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶
