Louis is an unreliable narrator. His memories with Lestat are confuse and mess up. When Lestat read "Interview with the vampire", he was confuse, angry and funny... and may be sad, and he ripped the book apart😂😂 It is like when he woke up from the slumber, he was kicked into the chest directly, so he wrote "Vampire Lestat". But at least AMC Lestat worth it. At least, he said Louis how much he love him. And the movie Lestat keep giving and giving and let the misunderstanding rose again and again.

One correction i want to make about what you said about narcissists and sociapaths having no empathy is incorrect. They have empathy but it is extremely limited. Much lower than the average person but it is still there.

Well you have it all wrong. But Anne wrote it that way. She changed the Lestat character in the second book. He was much more palatable after his transformation. He and Louis's relationship is Eternal in the Vampire Chronicles. The best line in all the Books and the most Romantic was in the 2nd book . Near the end........ "And I had always loved him, hadn't I, no matter what happened, and how strong could love grow if you had eternity to nourish it, and it took only these few moments in time to renew its momentum, its heat?............ Said by Lestat, about Louis when they meet up again after 100 years apart.

IN the book the slow hunt was to check they were evil enough.

I love the story because of the fascinating aspects of his Lestat's character, his charisma in how he brings in people around him. But in real life, he's scary, and I was struck by the evil that Louis got himself into and he became vulnerable to Lestat only because he was already on the dark side. The confession scene said so much of that. I love your analysis of Lestat and Louis!
