    Do you see any summer lightning storms in the Australia’s Red Centre and it is fun to watch when it rains and smell the dust of the air. It is summer weather in the desert with the high temperatures over 1000 degrees outside when it storms build up in the summer producing heavy rain with sound of the thunder after lightning flash. There are a lot of the cloud to ground lightning strikes in Uluru - Kata Tjuṯa in the Australia’s Northern Territory and also Uluru is one of the sacred sites in Australia by the Aboriginal tribes.

    Wonder why these stations don't dig the crescent shaped water retention ponds that are recovering so much desert in other locations? More grass would mean more cattle and more cattle would be more $ Investing in some diesel and operator wages would look like a good return if you could turn this semi-arid waste land into a green lawn like around the houses??

    • @jackojacko1199
      @jackojacko1199 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It does not work like you think. A lot of people do not understand that australia does not work like elsewhere in the world. You have to live and be here to understand otherwise you wont understand. Americans thought they could do a lot of things in this country in the 1960s and they found out it did not work like they thought.

    • @kevinmorin7965
      @kevinmorin7965 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jackojacko1199, its working in Saudi Arabia, India, lots of places in Africa and S. America?? what's not to like? When was this method of retaining seasonal flood waters into the ground water tried?? Yep the 60's was a time of many poorly designed experiments... all over! If the retention experiment has been tried- then your remarks might be valid- until then- just speculation like mine.

    • @jackojacko1199
      @jackojacko1199 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kevinmorin7965 As l stated before you have to live here to understand. Africa and Saudi Arabia are very different from australia in soil quality. Australia is poor and incredibly deficient in minerals. The other thing you may not understand is that water retention is quite hard in some parts of Australia. In fact l come from one of the hardest. It simply does not hold water. You dig a hole with a dozer and it rains when it does and then it either evaporates or sinks into the ground and disappears. It does not retain any moisture and little or no grass comes up. That is how it works and is why we do what we do. I know most of the world is ignorant of the realities of this country infact even our own government do not understand things about it in outback Australia. I know you mean well but as l stated before what may work elsewhere will not work here. I say that for even australia as we have diverse geographical differences from one end to another and different practices are are applied where they work. It is different. Now in saying that there are other ideas that could help improve things but the government does not either endorse or support any efforts to do so and has laws and regulations to prevent people from doing things that could make it more productive. That is something l am sure you are not aware of. Red tape in fact is preventing us from getting work done that could be done. There are many issues l could list but it would be quite numerous to type. This however is the answer why to your question. In curiosity where are you from in the world?

    From Toronto Canada fascinating to see this video. Proves you have to have multiple skills to live on a cattle station in the middle of nowhere. Cook, mechanic, roper to mention a couple. I live in a city of over 2 million people it is a different type of cattle drive. Morning traffic could be a 20 min. drive or maybe over an hour.
