I like Mihoyo's games and have no respect for their clones. I tried WuWa and okay, it's good, but it doesn't do much to differentiate itself from Genshin. It has the same general content structure, the same general aesthetic, although a bit less colorful. If people are already playing Genshin, it has nothing to offer to them, and people who quit Genshin also won't find much to like. I'm playing HSR and ZZZ, I'm not looking to play more that looks exactly the same. Recently I've been playing GFL2 as well, and I'm enjoying it, mainly because the gameplay is different from any other gacha I've played. It's closer to Persona 5 Tactica. And I really like the aesthetic of the girls they went with - still anime, but not Mihoyo's anime. It does something to distinct itself. Anante will fall in the same timwasting trap as Genshin, and all the things you can do will be half-assed and you'll have to do a daily to swing around, or drive a car. At this stage, I want gachas with autoplay and the ability to skip traversal. When I see an open-world gacha, I know it's a hard skip.

Risky's Revenge was my entry... I can dig it.

I'm sorry, but I hate when people say stuff like "start HERE. THIS is where it got good." Like, no. That's not how journeys work. I'm starting with Sonic 1 and Ratchet 1, not with Sonic 2 and Ratchet 2, thank you very much.

What's the problem with getting it on steam?

I mean Risky's Revenge is pretty easy and short, Pirate's Curse is a pretty beefy game so it'd be intimidating for newbies, I remember stressing myself out trying to 100% the game, and some sections took me a while to put the pieces together.

I'd heard about the Shantae games positively for years, but only entered the series with Half-Genie Hero, which was... not very enjoyable, imo. I went back and started with Risky's Revenge, and then played The Pirate's Curse, and I couldn't believe how much better the latter was there. Some of the art and sprites in HGH seemed like straight downgrades, even if most of it was an improvement. The main gameplay loop and progression just felt lackluster in HGH, where I was much more interested in actually trying to play through to completion, and 100%, those previous entries. I haven't played 7S, but one day I'll get around to it. Also, I guess bummer me for playing HGH first, since it was a soft reboot and gave up a bunch of good lore and character development.

Risky’s revenge was literally my first Shantae game because it was the only available Shantae game during my time pirate’s curse wouldn’t be out until a couple months later and the gameboy color original I wouldn’t get that way later and coughing up way to much dough for that but risky’s revenge considering it was a dsiware game I can see why it was so hard but come on these enemies are ridiculous and a bit to much on the bottomless pits I don’t remember having that much fun all I remember wanting to see that sweet shantae bikini image 😅

The original DSi Ware version of this game actually was my entry point into the series, back in 2010 or so (when it was the only Shantae game besides the original GBC game). A couple years later, I found out about the original and decided to play it on an emulator, and it was pretty fun. I went on to buy Pirate's Curse on Wii U in 2018, and now I own the whole series (so far) on Switch. Personally, Risky's Revenge is my least favorite game of the five, but it's still a solid 7/10 at worst, and I'd gladly go back and play it again anytime the mood struck me.
