Bobsled Technology - DDR and Soviet Union sleds vs. the World (German)
An interesting piece on the DDR sleds from the 1986/87 season. Video shows DDR sleds and their rear axle which had a separate suspension added. A view of the 1984 Soviet sleds. Thanks to Pim Bonten for sharing this history.

Great Britain's Prince Michael of Kent 1971 Bobsled Crash
I'm really trying to find my grandad he was in the raf and was in the 2 man bobsled in 1948 St mortitz for great Britain. (Basil wellicome)
What’s his name?
@tuffsledding basil wellicome
Is it possible to find the footage of the 2002 St. Moritz Bobsleigh World Cup? My dad raced in the Canadian sled and I'd like to be able to see the race. Thank you kindly.
Thank you, for posting this. I love seeing these, hard to find, films of the 1948 & 1952 U.S. Olympic Teams.
Are you related to Pat Martin?
@@tuffsleddingI am his grand son.

The race that I fell in love with watching Bobsled. That track was a classic too even though by this time they had cut nearly a 1/2 mile off it from the '32 games..
Oh well, *SHIT HAPPENS!!!!* Look at last years "opening ceremony"!!!!
Amazing! Thanks a lot for posting. Please more Skeleton from the 1980ies! :-)
You ok. " ya maan" -cool runnings
I preferred the color of Switzerland when it was Alpine Green in Gustav Weder's time.
Seeing an Italian Bobsled that is not painted Red (Although the Country's National Color is Azzuri Blue) or have some Red as part of the livery is a little weird
They aren't red in the pro circuit this year neither. Not sure if you're a regular fan of the current, but Baumgartner's sled isn't red plus "ITA II" Variola, isn't red neither. They'll bring it back fornext year. Maybe perhaps not for the pro circuit, cuz their might be a sponsorship agreement with that I don't know, but without question, there's no doubt that they'll definitely bring the red sled back for The 2026 Games
@@steveroufas1938 I'm a regular Bobsled fan and I can remember as far back as the Calgary Olympics in 1988 that one of the Italian 2-man sleds had the corporate colors of Alitalia Airlines just with the branding removed. Seeing a Blue sled for the Italians was a little weird back cause the Blue painted sled back in the 80's were mainly either French or for East Germany later adopted by the unified German team in the 90's
@@steveroufas1938 Cause Pirelli is one of the major sponsors for the Italian team and I remember a few years ago, they raced sleds that were built and aerodynamically wind tested by Scuderia Ferrari and had the sleds painted in the traditional Corse Rossa Red
Interesting how the track has changed in the intervening years, especially the height of Snake Right and Portago. Thanks so much for putting this up.

So great to see him in his prime, doing what he loved.
Thank you
Wow. This is a major find. A lot of CTV Olympic hockey coverage has been available before, but not the Miracle On Ice game, nor the Gold Medal USA-Finland game either. To finally have this version available fills a big void. While I will always be partial first and foremost to Al Michaels call, I always enjoy hearing alternate English language broadcasts if they're available and until now the only other alternate one was a recording for ABC Radio done by Curt Chaplin (and he wasn't going live, he was just recording a radio style PBP so that clips could be used as highlights in ABC Radio newscasts later on). Thank you for posting this. Now hopefully someday we'll see the CTV version of the USA-Finland game too!
Miss that track. Oh the new one is nice.. but the history on the old bobsled track is just too great
Au
Ah, the late and great Jonny Woodall! What a loss.
Had the pleasure of co-commentating with Jonny for Europsport. Lovely man - generous and thoughtful. Couldn't hear much by the time I worked with him, but I guess that's artillery for you!
@@alanhenderson1065 I did a commentary stint with him for Eurosport one year as well (I had torn my intercostal muscle in Altenberg). I am not sure he was any louder than I was, but we ate and drank in fine style.
Amazing. Merry Christmas

Man, I miss John Denver.
Such Great Footage!!!!
My first football helmet looked like one of those, while my nose served as my facemask.
I loved that track. What a fine video it was too, with most of the turns well on view. My recollection placed Azzura and Bianca much closer together - I guess that's what happens when you do the transition airborne. You also tend to forget how steep that track was. It dropped 9m more than St Moritz over a shorter course. You knew it by the time you got to the bottom though.
Do you have the final run
your back keep em coming
Ah Jackie. I Know her. lived in longbridge...
How do you sign up to announce this thing every year. Just trying to fill the dead air when you're very unsure about what condition the people are in is just rough bro.
Great video! Thanks!!
Kind of perfect, with John Morgan commentating, talking about Jamaica and Dudley Stokes, after he was the commentator in Cool Runnings
The track needs redesigning.
not Dudley and not Gerry
this is Epic!!!!! i love this. exactly what i wad looking fdir~~~
Haha! Dudley looks a lot like Sheridon!
@@BenHindle he sure does.
Quite a crash coming out of Piccolo Labirinto! I am puzzled how he got into that much trouble early in a four man. I know this combination could hang you up late on the exits of the third and fourth turns in this combination, but I also would have thought a four man would have enough momentum to not have to worry. Can some of the four man drivers give their thoughts please?
Our ancestors were built different.
Feel the rhythm! Feel the rhyme! Get on up! It's bobsled time! COOL RUNNINGS!
Wow these guys are seriously nuts, the team riding the edge back into the track is crazy, like a hybrid bob-halfpipe OMG! Hi Tuffie, I met you in 1987-88 I slid for the Aussies, good times, a bit safer with lips on the corners and helmets, LOL. I've been watching your uploads thanks so much for your ongoing commitment to the sport of Bobbing! 😃
That omega up the top looks like a lot of fun. Do you have a track map?
Eins! Zwei! Drei!
Yes I've crashed many times on Whistler
Why not just require that they have roll cages installed?
Aero
Or design a better track.
Made me laugh!
