MAC 9DS woes .. Wolff 13 coil springs the fix or not??
@Ballistikpapa
Continued video dealing with the oem mags the MAC 9DS comes with and they sell.
I bought 2 spare magazines to run this gun in training next spring , but....
The factory mags suck.
They are 9mm/38 mags and strip and extra round during chambering..
That's not okay, especially when doing TAC reloads running the course..
Let's see if there's an easy fix with these springs..
I sourced mine from BenStoegerProShop Cedar Park, Texas.

Thanks to @Ballistikpapa for dropping a comment on my video MAC 9DS 1ST Impression Video. He asked me, " if I had experienced an odd problem during my shooting in the MAC 9DS? If when I chambered a round and dropped the mag, did it strip and extra bullet and it fall out?" Rather odd problem, but know I am thinking.. This is actually possibly a familiar problem, that happened a long time ago on ...

That thing is a beast!!!
Yes sir! Can't wait to get it back on the road!
My staccato mags strip a round too. Even my factory stacatto mags did it. Im convinced its a 2011 magazine issue
This is a 2011 issue as a whole. Both of my staccato’s do it. It’s because the feed lips are flared at the end and thats so that the round is fed properly. Stiff spring or not, you’re still going to have flared feed lips
I believe this to be the true root cause as well, based on all the info I could gather. I wonder if there is a fix in process somewhere? I figured it was because the mags were for 9mm/38. Do you know of anyone working with modifying the feed lips? Thanks for the reply
@ not that im aware of. I cant remember the name of the Company, but there was one that was experimenting with narrower feed lips for their own 2011’s and it was unsuccessful. I think this is partially why staccato is releasing a glock magazine compatible 2011
@ArmedAppalachia seen the pistol ( not by stecatto) recently released, with glock mag compatability.
How many joules can this model withstand?viper
I can’t comment on B’s but I can comment here. Drive safe.
I just stumbled on your videos and I do have a mac9 ds as well. However I started thinking when you showed the issue. My other pistols have the top round slightly forward as well when removing after chambering. But don't fall. I looked the 2011 mags feed lips hold just about the ass of the round compared to my other mags. Now I understand why was it so easy to strip the rounds with my thumb. I believe it's a design issue. Feed lips are short . Top round will be held from a small section of the mag lips.
IMHO i thinner that is a major contributor as well. Glad you posted the comment. I have read it's because of the 38/9mm dual compatibility design the lips are so short. Idk i believe it is a major contributor as well. Thanks for watching and commenting. Hopefully we can find a solution soon.
So, I went to a gun store to buy the staccato gen 3 mags (as opposed to online) Same issue. Tried a nighthawk mag, same issue. Last stop is the 126mm atlas mags. 94$@😦 I keep getting told "it's a 2011 thing"...get over it. ...will advise on progress. Try b4 u buy (mags). And yes the gun is still flawless.
Right on brother TY for the info as usual. Did you send your mags back to MAC/ TISAS for warranty yet?
Any tips you get I'll need as I'm also in my 50's and getting a red dot on my TTI combat. looking forward to more content
What was shared so far was learning to leave both eyes open and be target focused instead of traditional front sight post. That was an instan change for me during the change over. Thanks for the comment, looking forward to some range time for sure ASAP
@@RonGyver Thank you! me too
They’re checkmate mags. Same manufacture that makes STI’s mags.

Happy New Years
🎉 Happy New Year to you as well!
Blah. I was wrong.
I stopped it at ten seconds to make my guess! I think it’s a boom box with a bunch of mix tapes and maybe a stuffed kitten plushie!!
Could the tip of the round be hitting the mag release in the way out out of the handle??
I would guess that could be the result, from ut partially stripping the 2nd round, when chanbering a round. I figured the Wolff Xtra power springs w ould keep tension and stop it, but it did not. As balistikpapa mentioned they will warranty them. Hope it fixes this only issue I've had so far. Love the gun it runs Excellent and I want to run it on the course.
Upgrading to the Wolf magazine springs was a good idea, but that wasn’t going to solve this problem. Seek out a 15lb recoil spring.
Thank you will give it a try
I have the same issue with mines but the deal is I live in a round count restricted state so they gave me real Staccato 10 round mags and one of my 2 mags does exactly what you show in this video . The other Staccato mag runs great every time.
Is there a different part # on the ones that run perfect compared to the other two that have issues?
Does the slide hang up on the disconnector on this one? Recently purchased a prodigy and am running into the issue of the slide hanging up on the disconnector
No hang up in the disconnector on mine. Just the mag stripping extra round.
I had the Mac ds 9 for two weeks now and 500 rounds down range and cero issues with factory magazines.
They run fine during a course of fire, it's during a TAC reload, this issue shows itself.
Awesome info again, i will do the same myself. Thanks again for the info and support
I had my fingers crossed bro. BTW I called mac on this issue. Mac said, go to their website and fill out the warranty form. They said they would make it right...covered under warranty. So I'm going to buy 2 staccatto p gen 3 mags and send off the factory ones. Thanks for the experiment...now we know.
Ok I kept saying the wrong unit lol. This is the PRIME UNIT.....😂
Just hit the 1k mark with my MAC. I never used the Tisas magazines. Immediately bought Staccato gen 3 mags and I have had zero mag related issues. For sure an issue with Tisas's springs.
Ty for the moment and info. I will have to snag some gen 3 stecatto mags from my brother to test.
I have a Springfield prodigy 4.25" and an LFA Apollo 11 5". I have the same issues with the prodigy mags, apollo mags and even staccato mags I've purchased hoping it would cure it. Im considering just selling both and buying a Fusion XP pro that takes glock mags.
Sorry to hear it, but if I knew what I knew, I think the glock mag fusion would be my choice. But .. remains to be seen for me right now.
@dustinuser6080 yes my buddies prodigy does it. He runs gen 3 staccatto mags now. Skips guns recommended the atlas mags. They are a complete rework of all components. 94$ tho😖 They were made to be caliber specific, whereas our mags are an old design that was intended to flex between 9mm and .38 super, which is a longer case. I've been reluctant to put any money into the stock mags for that reason.
I'm keeping my mac, but that fusion is tempting.
@Ballistikpapa i haven't given up yet. Just starting ;)
Ooh very pretty.
Thank you! 😊
BTW, skips guns YT channel Just dropped a 3 part budget build featuring the mac 9 ds. Def. Worth a view. I hit him up in the comments of the 3rd vid about the mag. Issue.
Tt will have to give him a looksee
He replied to my question. It's in the replies to my post. I dont want to misquote.
Good vid bro. So glad to have an ally on this project. Here are some more data points. The gen 3 staccatto p mags have stiffer springs and a different (new style ) follower than previous gens. They work fine, but is it because of the spring tension? Or the follower? Otherwise the tube and feed lips appear the same as the tisas. The atlas mags has a very different follower that puts a slightly steeper angle on the top round as well as sitting the round more proud above the feed lips. Also, the tube itself is way different than the others. I also stretched the factory springs with no success. I have one buddy that is convinced the issue is the feed lips. Another that thinks it's in the gun. I think it's a spring and follower problem. I will also call military armament Corp. And see what they can do. They and / or tisas should back their product. I'll let you know what they say. For anyone watching this back and forth....yes it's still worth it.
Again, Brother, thanks for the info and comments that started this all. I did notice as I stripped the mags by hand, the next bullet was tilting down, another sign or follower issue, and or weak springs. I wonder what a +3 kits with an included springs would do? Just thoughts bouncing in my head. Looking forward to solving this with with ya. Peace ✌️
👍
Nice gun. I have the rival darkside with the m03. Been flawless for 8k rnds. Love it.
I love this one it's my 2nd combat elite, 1st Executive, ita the SAI calab. Very accurate and perfect trigger. This one has approx 5k through it in training sessions. Flawless and absolute dream to run.
When you insert a mag, chamber a round, and remove that mag, does the top round strip off and fall onto the ground?
I didn't have a clue, so I found it for you. I took a factory mag that came with the DS9 and loaded it up. I chambered a round, then pulled it to top it off. What I found was just that it would allow the next round to get stripped. It did this for every round until rds 5 & 3. I bought an additional 2 mags from the factory. I will have to get them out and try this as well. Either the spring is weak, or there's an issue with the feed lips. Leaning towards the springs myself at this point. First I will try stretching the spring and if that works I will find stiffer mag springs. My brother runs a few steccattos. I'll try and use his to perform the check as soon as possible.
@RonGyver at this point, operable mags are a hidden cost in an otherwise fantastic budget platform. Thanks for taking the time. I have used atlas mags 👍 And the newest. Gen of staccatto p mags successfully. But a fix for these stock mags needs to be put out there. I find it hard to believe that none of the 'bigger' gun tuber channels have noticed this.
Absolutely correct about no one else putting out the info. Thanks for the headsup, and info you've discovered on yohr own.@Ballistikpapa
On another note, did a quick test on all 4 mags then took them apart, 2 springs re compressed and w weren't. I didn't mark them when I opened them, so going to assume the non compressed are the 2 new ones. Ordering new springs from www.gunsprings.com ASAP and will report findings.
We will figure this out, and share it with everyone. I really like this gun it has been a sewing machine.

How are you liking it so far?
So far I am liking it from what I've been able to use. Off rifle looking around the neighborhood very clear. On the rifle out at the Range Sunday, good to 100 yards. Had to run the 20x mag to get enough view on shoot n see targets to be able to get visual on my hits. Video forthcoming, has been a hectic week.
