Cooking with Kids - getting started
Many parents want to get their kids into the kitchen. We've all heard about the benefits for the littles - including development and practice of motor skills, learning numeracy and literacy, and becoming more invested in mealtimes (in fact kids who participate in meal prep are more likely to eat the meal they helped to make!). But many parents struggle with getting their kids to participate in meal planning, because they just don't know how to get started. Plus, there's always the fear that they will hurt themselves, or make a huge mess!
In this video I give you some tips to get your kids in the kitchen to get HANDS ON with meal prep. And of course, Veronica is happy to demonstrate her kitchen skills :)

A recent study suggests that introducing solids EARLY may help babies sleep longer. But is it worth it? Let's look at the evidence.

Cooking with a Toddler - pasta night!
มุมมอง 2306 ปีที่แล้ว
I have a special assistant in this video! Little Miss joined me in the kitchen to make pasta, and demonstrates how even young toddlers can get involved in meal prep. Getting kids involved in cooking and meal prep increases the likelihood that they'll actually EAT the food they help prepare, and helps them to develop healthy habits that follow them through life! Have some fun, get messy, and pac...

These Instant Pot meatballs are a family favourite! And, an easy recipe for kids to get involved in. Miss V was more interested in taking a snack break than mixing meatballs, but that's ok! Roasted Brussels Sprouts
มุมมอง 186 ปีที่แล้ว
Roasting veggies brings out their natural sweetness, and often kids (and adults) are more accepting of veggies cooked this way! Cruciferous veggies like Brussels sprouts, cauliflower, and broccoli are full of vitamins, minerals, fibre, and antioxidants, so this simple recipe can help you get these nutrition powerhouses on the table more often (this recipe can be used on broccoli or cauliflower ...

Can u say about ur pay scale please
"Why are we stopping, the light is green." Yup, even that part is true for us.
Thank you for sharing! I start my first career job as a Clinical Dietitian next month. This definitely put me at ease. I love your attentiveness and personality! And the Ignition bit at the end had me rolling lol 😂
Thank you for doing this video. I was soo impressed by how quick you were to get through all that work. I am about to start placement, any tips? Thank you
This is SO cool and interesting! I’m a dietetic student and I know I’ll work in a hospital at some point and I wasn’t sure if that would be for me. Thanks for being so in depth about your tasks, it really helped me open my mind towards clinical practice.
Wow, that was so informative. I'm considering a career in dietetics, and that helped me get excited for it! Thanks for sharing!
Great job, thanks! Sharing with my MNT students :)
P.S. THANK YOU for being an example of a normal, non-food-obsessed RD.
Thank You!
Wow, this is exactly what I wanted to do in the future (dietitian manager/director who oversees many hospitals and departments!) Thanks for showing us and bringing us along on your day to day journeys! I really love the fact that you have a strong connection with your patients and how you assess their needs and how you are ALWAYS learning and challenging yourself! This makes me very excited to become an RD and make patients live a little better every day!! :)
Thank you so much for this video! I am starting my grad program this fall and am trying to prepare for it :)
I would love to see more videos that would be helpful for students going into dietetics!
Love the video. I’m considering going back to college to change the direction of my career.
Before this video, I thought a dietician was just someone who tells people to eat fruits and vegetables. But after watching this I’ve realized how complex and complicated the job can get, and what a big responsibility the job requires! Very informative video thank you!!
please more just like this!!!
What is the average pay?
I just stumbled upon this video and I am pretty sure we went to Ryerson together! Hi fellow RD! :) Love the way you explain everything we do.
You are a queen you made this so exciting ! I’m so excited about going to college I hope this is something I really want to do , for the most part I love it !
this was a great video for me! thank you so much for sharing!
I loved this, please do more, very helpful for a dietetic student :) x
I was in school to become a dietitian. I fed patients and the puree food made me very nausea. It effected my eating at the time and I couldn't eat food like oatmeal or riped bananas, basically anything mussy or similiar substances as the puree food. The texture made me gag and I had to take breaks during meals. I lost a lot of weight and when I stopped volunteering I still had nausea from thinking about the puree food. (Like certain smells reminded me of it). I still want to become a dietitian but I am hesitating, because it was hard to deal being around hospital food.
I hear you, it's definitely not always the most appetizing! Really depends on the facility of course :) In all the places I've worked, I've never had to feed a patient as part of my job (I sometimes have if I'm seeing them anyway and the meal arrives and nurse/PSW/family is unavailable, then yeah I'll help them out!) Sounds like you're really hypersensitive to textures - you could totally still be an RD but working in different environments! We work in all kinds of places, not just in hospitals and long term care... there are RDs in media (TV, writing, etc), public health and government, foodservices, corporate nutrition (eg major food companies), etc!
Thank you for this video! I am currently a Junior in my undergraduate Dietetics degree and I am taking Nutrition Assessment this semester. We've been doing tons of case studies, one almost every week, and it's interesting seeing this video of you and the different questions that you ask your patients when assessing them.
Nice video, loved it! Lots of information
I love seeing how little ones can get their hands in the cooking process! Love your videos :)
Thanks for watching! Hoping to get some more Cooking with Veronica videos up in the near future - she's a great sous chef :)
I want study clinical nutrition from US Please give me advice if you can
I loved this. I’m strongly considering to study to become a clinical dietitian but it’s hard to find interesting video which show the real life practice.
Me too
This video is great! Can you give us a run down on the more intimate work of a RD? Like how you take a patient and create a plan for them and why and how nutrition is so important to peoples health? I want to be an RD and this has been one of the best videos I’ve seen. You explain things really clearly and I’m worried I may not like or find the plan making part very interesting but could you maybe make another video about that and how studying chemistry actually helps you in your job day to day?
Hey sorry to be getting back to you late on this one! I think talking about the more intimate relationships and personal side of things could take several more videos :) building that rapport and trusting relationship is SUCH a huge part of the job!!! And haha yes great idea about talking about how biochem/org chem/etc actually helps in the real world. Believe it or not, that pesky Krebs cycle keeps popping up now and again!
Loved this video! I would love to see more! Maybe a pro and cons video? Or things you wish you knew when you first started?
I would love for this to become a series! I'm just finishing up my very first semester in university (nine left haha..) to become a clinical dietitian myself, so these videos are very interesting and inspirational. There are a lot of nutritionists on youtube, but not a lot of clinical dietitians! :)
Hi, I am considering a career change and Dietition is one career that is appealing to me. If you dont mind my asking, is there anything in particular that made you know that this career choice was right for you? What would you say are important skills to be successful in this career? Thank you in advance.
Thank you for this!! Ive watched so many “Day in life of a Dietitians” but none of them elaborately explained what they ACTUALLY did, they only mentioned the broad stuff like “We talk to patients.. we do charting, then we leave.” But this video was so informative and helpful thank you!
I'm glad to hear it! I've tried like 70 times to film follow ups to this but it's so hard in the hospital to actually film anything... hoping to post some more in future!
Thank you for the video! May I just ask, you mentioned you had to look at the overall big picture of the inpatient before administrating the tube feeding, I just wonder how would you obtain information such as the baseline nutrition, any signs of BNO, social history etc. as you said, from patients if they have not been to your hospital or are physically unfit to conduct a 1-1 consultation?
Definitely can be a challenge! If family or friends are available that definitely helps to get s better idea of the situation. It's not always available though, or sometimes just not appropriate (for example I wouldn't nevessarily go asking for a diet history from a distraugt family in ICU). Sometimes you just need to use clinical judgement and make some assumptions to err on the side of caution. For something like tube feeding where I don't have a history but theres a chance that they might be at refeeding risk, I'd rather be safe than sorry!
Thanks a lot for getting back. I'm dietetics student, I also find some situations where there really isn't a set answer to it, so, it's nice to hear how a senior would handle it, thank you so much!
Veronica is adorable!
Thanks! Gosh shes so big now compared to this video. I keep trying to film more like this but it's harder to contain a 2 year old 😂
Do you ever take your work home?
Not necessarily - if I'm doing work from home related to this job, it's more in the sense of doing research about a patients condition or to think through a complex treatment plan that could then be implemented the next day.
Hey there. I'm Andrew. Recently I'm working as a medical doctor in Indonesia. What do you think about changing carrer from a medical doctor to a clinical dietition? Is that related? Because I'm thinking about to get master degree of nutrition and dietetic in Sydney. Do you think its possible? Or Do you have any suggestion for me? Thank you
I am currently a Dietetic student and (if you don't already know the process) all you need to be able to do is complete a dietetic internship and be able to pass the RD exam. You don't need a nutrition degree but it is helpful! (:
Yes!! Love these videos!! I am starting my coordinated dietetics program this fall and love learning anything related to dietetics.
S Rosa Good luck on your internship!

Thank you, that was really helpful 🌹
Glad you found it helpful!
I'm a former clinical dietitian in the Air Force and I've been out of the career raising children. This is VERY helpful in refreshing my memory as I'm seeking a PRN job.
That's great!! Let me know if there's any other info I could film that might help you get back into the swing of things :)
Enjoyed this video, please upload more! Thanks. 😊
Working on more content right now ;)! Stay tuned!
Considering making a career change and this video was very helpful!
Awesome! Dietetics is a really diverse and ever-evolving field, glad you're thinking of joining :)
I am in a dietetic internship right now and I loved this video!
Yay! I'm glad you liked it :)
Ashley Jacobs How's ur scope and how's ur pay
thatweirdgirl musthafa Really depends on where you're working! And what experience you have, extra certifications, etc
