Single coil all the way.... you can get a 6-way switch by free-way switch, and get the pickups combined into a humbucker. Problem solved
I like the idea but I do think the position of the pickups not being the same might cause another series of questions and sounds.
@tonebros6533 it isn't the same, but it gets you there with more tweakability. I own one guitar with humbuckers (a custom telecaster with firebird pickups on it) and it's MUCH harder to dial in a clean tone in
Has to be Boss, because none of the other pedal makers ALSO make a multiFX/All-in-one... Are the rules that you can't have a Helix or FM9 if you didn't pick Line 6 or Fractal? If that's the case then Boss is the only option if you can't let go of multi-stuff and you also can't let go of old-time pedals.
We were trying to pick a company for single effects pedals. We couldn’t use a multi effects pedal like a FM9. Boss is a great call!
@@tonebros6533 I feel like you guys need to do the video where you explain why you can't use a multiFx pedal... Make it spicy 🔥
I wanted to be the first commenter
Ok, first guitar, humbucker, p90, Strat single coil or acoustic? Thoughts?
I would suggest electric guitar for the first guitar but which pickup would depend on a lot. Sounds like another episode for the future
@@tonebros6533 ok, I’ll stay tuned. Thanks
Single coils. I don't know that you can get the Knopfler sound from a humbucker - but you an always fatten up a single coil with the right pedal.
Thanks for watching and adding to the conversation!
Single coils if you know what you are doing. They are more expressive, nuanced, dynamic, and it’s easier to make a single coil sound heavy than it is to attenuate a humbucker and make it sound clean, cutting, and with space. I say that as someone with more humbucker guitars than single coils. Humbuckers can make anyone sound good by layering on drive and distortion. Plus when you get older and more experienced you tend to see guys transition to single coils rather than the other way around.
Ehx canyon trust me bro
Good choice. Also a memory man variation would have been a good one to bring up too.
Tim Pierce still uses a Carbon Copy!
A modern classic delay for sure!
NUX duotime with tap for tempo and Flamma fc03 (129€ and 35€ resp). NUX for the "heavy lifting" and stereo, and Flamma for a *very* short flashback (5..10ms, just for thickening the sound). Both available from thomanDOTde. And yes, I use both of them, so I can attest to the quality.
Thanks for watching and adding to the conversation
I'm assuming these will all use 12AX7 front ends rather than EF86... 🤔
or a mosfet in the pre amp ..it wouldn't surprise me
According to the spec sheet they say 12ax7 front end.
JHS for me 😁
Thanks for watching and adding to the conversation
curious, where are those made?
My understanding, is the handwired series are made in Vietnam, and customs are made in China.
I am also curious, I haven’t seen anything official anywhere but I did see a mention that they were being made in Vietnam. It wasn’t official though so I would still just call it a rumor for now.
@@tonebros6533 yeah, utterly unacceptable .. I'll stick with Tone King, or Friedman .. or UK made Marshals.
Enjoyed the discussion - thanks guys and good luck growing your channel!
Thank you! Hope you continue to enjoy it.
Mesa Boogie be like “too many knobs? Hold my beer…”
Exactly!
I am a totally blind person. I prefer switches, knobs, and sliders over touch screens and menus. 🎚🎛
The CE has a shallow version of the Core top carve, with generally a better looking flame top over the S2 line. The S2 has its own carve, which some like better, but generally the maple top is the least flamed of all the models.
Thanks for watching and adding to the conversation
The new headstock is great.. I have it on a new les paul custom and it looks and feels much more complete as opposed to the older "not quite at home" ugly duckling one.... Its such a nice touch on the new models
Thanks for watching and adding your opinion to the conversation
Boss.
Thanks for watching and adding to the question
Wampler Dual fusion running split stereo on my Kemper is a real nice touch with little to no gain on my acoustic guitar i would love to check out Wampler's less digital stuff 3 knobs or less phaser or delay mostly. Jhs would be a close second or first as a Haunting Mids i find is so good i am going to get a second one soon.
Imma throw walrus in there. Great wet effects, great modulation, and great drives and fuzzes. They even have a tuner now.
I mean, the 'drive pedal' is named 'preamp'...it does have EQ and you can use it in that clean application not a drive.
TC Electronic is also a juggernaut with a ton of options. Hall of fame, flashback or nova delay, polytune, mojo mojo... you've got any effect you could think of.
too*
***We totally forgot to mention that CE’s are bolt-on necks, and S2’s are neck-through’s. Which will change the tone, feel, etc. Whoops!
Very nice guitar. Planning on trying one out next month.
Thanks, I don’t think you will be disappointed. Everyone I have played has blown me away in a unique way! Great guitars with a true vibe!
Strymon and it's not even close
Gotta agree
I concur 🤘
I think its dumb… it literally says Epi! Why ppl gta showoff.. buy epi for what its worth!
I'd probably just go with EHX out of familiarity. I have 12 pedals, and 6 of them are EHX. I don't even have half of the pedals on my board at the moment because I simplified my rig, but currently I have a Korg tuner, EHX Pitch Fork, EHX Ripped Speaker, Behringer EQ (for my 8 string, gotta tame the lows a little bit), and the EHX Signal Pad in the effects loop as a master volume. No overdrive, but I have the EHX Hot Wax dual overdrive. I'm just liking what I'm getting without an overdrive these days. EHX seems to have a version of everything I'm looking for at a good price.
Well, today I learned EHX do a tuner
That makes me think because the tuner is the most important pedal on my board for sure!
@@tonebros6533 100% I nearly discounted them out of hand!
Keeley or EQD.
I'm a big Keeley fan - I really dig every pedal of theirs I've worked with.
Wampler
Gotta be Boss for the sheer range
Boss does have the range for sure and have stood the test of time!
mxr or boss

Strymon
That’s a great brand to consider that we forgot in the moment!
Guitar vids w no guitar???
Absolutely rediculous. Never played but decided to make a vid about it. I have 3. They’re great. Just a couple guys talkin clueless. It fine to have an opinion and chat over a beer, but to make a vid about something u know nothing about is a total waste of viewers time.
These people think tone comes from the headstock
No, they think they can trick people from a distance. But i can read.
Oh great, now I can break my Epi headstock just as easily as a Gib
I prefer the Epiphone Kalamazoo headstock (the one on the Casino & recent Epis like the Slash Victoria I got last Father’s Day) because it’s similar to the Gibson but has a straighter string angle from the nut, which helps keep that notorious 3rd string in tune.
I also like the vintage “bikini” logo headstock too.
blackshirt comes across as a total douche.
You’re not wrong
Those are not Custom Shop inspired by pickups bro, those are 500 US Custom Shop crafted Custombucker pickups, actually better that you can find in a 2700 US Gibson Les Paul Standard. Plus necks are not scarf joint anymore, these are the important upgrades not the headstock, thats just aesthetics.
OK, I've been playing since the 60s, approximately 25 of those years professionally, and I've owned a lot of guitars, around 2-300 over the years. Currently I only have 20 or so, but I'm getting quite old and don't play much anymore. However, no less than three of the guitars that I currently own have an original 1960s Japanese Teisco gold foil pickup custom-mounted. Around 15 years ago, you could still get trashed Teisco guitars at yard sales for very cheap. I've got gold foils in the past for as cheap as 10 to 20 bucks each. It isn't often that the guitar they come on is playable, or worth rebuilding; so you're better off just salvaging the gold foils and mounting them onto a Tele, Strat, LP Jr, or even into the soundhole of a small bodied (parlor) acoustic. They truly have a unique sound, kind of in the ballpark of an original Dano lipstick. Scooped mids, tight pronounced bass, sparkly treble. A tone that fits into many dense band mixes very nicely. The "gold foil" on these pickups is purely decorative as far as I can tell. It is a fairly thick embossed gold foil/paper, sometimes with a thin cloth/canvas backing, and it resembles wrapping paper or maybe really gaudy wallpaper. An oddball aspect of these is that the magnets are 'rubberized' magnets, almost like fridge magnets, except much stronger. My main experience is with the 60s Japanese Teisco (Tokyo Electronic Instrument Sound Co) pickups, and they made quite a few variations of them. On most of them, the adjustable pole pieces are more or less ornamental, as they are not magnetized nor are they screwed into the magnet. There are also pickups with decorative gold foil used in their construction by American companies such as DeArmond; I think they mostly sound pretty good as well, but aren't really part of this discussion. It's mainly the Teisco gold foil pickups of the 60s that I'm referring to here. (I have also used some great Japanese '60s Guyatone pickups, but none of them were gold foils, and so are not included in this discussion.) You know that the main reason we are even talking about 'Teisco Gold Foil pickups' at all these days is because of Ry Cooder, (via David Lindley), who in the late 60s or early 70s famously mounted a Teisco gold foil onto one of his 60s strats (now known as Coodercasters) combined with a much better, more rare, and important pickup, the elusive 'Rickenbacker Horseshoe Magnet Pickup', which were historically among the very first electric guitar pickups to be manufactured and sold, originally on lap steel (Hawaiian) guitars in the early 1930s! They were used through the 60s on various Rickenbacker instruments, including their Combo and Capri series, and the 4001 bass that Paul McCartney used from around mid '64. 15 years ago I built myself a 'Coodercaster' to my own specs, on a Thinline Fender Tele platform, using a 40s/50s Rickenbacker horseshoe magnet pickup at the bridge, and a 60s Japanese Teisco gold foil at the neck; it also has a Bigsby, and a 27" Fender baritone Tele neck. It is truly a one-of-a-kind instrument, with so much of it being very familiar, but tweaked up into the "on steroids" realm. Anyway, I hope that gives you a bit more info for your Teisco gold foil pickup research dossier; of course it's all my own opinion and based upon my own practical experimentation and research. I have never tried any of the various 'reproductions' of gold foil pickups, although I've heard that the Lollars, while pricey, are quite good. How accurate they reproduce the sound of the originals, I have no idea. The originals are really very cheaply made, and delicate in construction to the extent that many of them can be quite microphonic, so you need to be careful when buying them. They can also get pretty rusty and crusty underneath the cheap, stamped chrome covers and the plastic bobbins can become rather brittle, so it's best not to get too enthusiastic about 'cleaning them up'; if they work, just get them mounted with the least amount of handling possible. Also, the rout shapes are non-standard to any other pups like Strat, Tele, P90, Mini-Buckers, etc, so you'll have to do custom routing to mount them, likewise cut custom bezels and/or pickguards. The payoff is that you will have yourself a unique, maybe one-of-a-kind custom instrument, which can help to make your tone 'stand out from the crowd', and also possibly inspire your songwriting into unique territory.
There’s no reason for Epiphone or Squire to exist. A Gretsch shouldn’t be made under quality of $2k. Make American Guitars Great Again. And that means MADE IN AMERICA. Earn the chops to play the real thing
Whatever bro...
Nobody really cares about if a guitar is made under the jurisdiction of Washington DC. We want good instruments, American or not.
Does the CNC machine know if the person using it is named Chuck or Ping? The name on the headstock means so much less these days.
First off, it’s Rickenbacker, not Rickenbocker. Lastly, you can find used ones in great shape for good prices right. I just seen a 2023 620/12 go for $1600. Dave’s guitar shop has the best new deals I’ve seen. They have great playability and stay in tune just fine. The tuning issues are common myth. For most people(not all), the 660/12 and 1993Plus models with the wider 1-3/4” fingerboard makes them easier to fret. Unfortunately, both of those models are more rare, and more desirable with deluxe appointments. 660/12 goes for over $2k, and the 1993Plus goes for over $3k usually….although you might be able to get a new one from Dave’s for under $3k….if they have any. Another option is getting a 620/330/360 and changing out the nut for a Rickysounds nut. It tightens the string pair spacing so you have more space between the string pairs to make it easier to fret. Top notch, beautiful looking, and playing instruments. I got my brother a 1993Plus last year.
Sounds like we need to check out Dave’s guitar shop, go play a few more and then have a follow up in a future episode. Thanks!
Great episode for gear aficionados!
