The Pointing Philosophy of Ancestral Recall
After I uploaded the video I remembered my point I was going to say at the end of the video so I'll type it up here in the description.

"The other possible flaw is that there might need to be so many cards pointed to make a competitively viable deck to Recall that the format becomes unrecognizable. If we need to point 20 cards for the ten best to be better than Recall, then this isn't even a viable option for our format because it would demand the destruction of another pillar of our format (point as few cards as possible)."

I think you should challenge the idea that pointing Recall to 10 would be a failure. Point spreads aren't the only interesting thing about this format, the other cards in your deck matter too. Decks that only play recall would have to figure out what combination of cards would be best to put in the rest of the deck, and this could end up creating archetypes that are wholly distinct in Canlander. While it's not an ideal situation, it wouldn't bother me as much. I do think that overall, cards should be more aggressively pointed to preserve deck diversity, but that's just my bias.
So many of those “best 1 for 1’s” are 2 for 1’s or X for 1’s - probably part of why they’re the best…
I think the terminology here overlapping with the typical "1 for 1" made it a bit confusing, he was just talking about if you could have any one card for their one card those are the best (because they are the best x for 1s). You always want to have an x for 1 card if you can
Yeah I made this presentation in like an hour I didn't flesh out the language very well. The best 1:1s are the ones that are way more than 1:1s
I agree with the logic that pointing Recall to 10 is a failure in adhering to the logic that makes Canadian Highlander what it is, but I also don't think just pointing the cards Recall decks can draw into is the cleanest answer either. Unfortunately, pointing things like Phlage or Whiteplume (at least in my mind) just means that other decks that would play them get punished for Recall being of such high power level. In order to make it a fair and equitable point spread, I think you'd likely have to toy with point totals for all kinds of different things so that there is better balance between different decks. This might just be because I play Slushie, but losing some of my best cards that I don't have to spend points on or losing some of my pointed cards because other cards were pointed just because Recall is busted doesn't sound like an enjoyable time. And if I lose some of my cards because Recall is busted then it makes the issue of Recall's overwhelming resource advantage even more punishing to play against. From my perspective, Recall is so powerful because it doesn't much matter what cards they draw into, there's enough to be gained from just having more cards that it gets the job done. TLDR, I agree with your philosophy behind your video, and I think if they wanted to avoid pointing Recall to 10 then they would have to point other things, but doing so would have to be done carefully, likely dropping points on a lot of other cards to offset the gain in points that Recall forces them to have. I don't know what the best or ideal solution would be, and it's a complicated issue.
joking101 (famed canlander discord poster) in my youtube recs? neat :D
Boy am I glad we drew that top 4 lol. Otherwise I'd be taking you home at like 8 AM. XD
Not quite as good as Tazri, Beacon of unity. But definitely a close close second

Excellent report. I really appreciate the insight. Looking forward to more of these
It killed me that I threw that semi final game with that pact, but nonetheless it was a great (hell) game! Pleasure playing with you Nick hope to see you in future tournaments.
It was a pleasure playing with you! I'm sure we'll play again
fascinating insight into the history of the best constructed format in Magic. Robin seems like a very sincere person.
Love the content I really appreciate you doing this! Some constructive criticism: Audio levels are a bit off with you being really quiet and Robin being really loud, it would greatly improve the listening experience to tweak those kinds of things. Two input signals is super easy to fix very quickly, if your file is all one audio input like a discord call then it is a bit of a pain to go through the whole thing and shift levels manually but if you are using something like protools can make it very easy to even out the levels. I have pro tools and would be happy to help in the future if you want! Thanks again Nick great stuff.
I have separate audio tracks, I actually already balanced the levels but it sounded just fine on my end but apparently not for everyone Really not sure how to address audio issues when it sounds perfectly fine during the editing process lol. I've always avoided getting deep into editing because that kinda sucks the fun out of it for me, but I do want to get the audio right, if I can. Tips are welcome!
bro how the hell did this get recommended to me. you were friends with one of my exes like several years ago
Algorithm is crazy. Let's play some chess sometime eh?
Great video! Love deep dives like this.
Thanks for the podcast!
Local man interviews shrimp (emotional)
Gold border ancestral is reasonable to trade up for. Isn't that recognized for the non proxy tournaments? I feel like there was some old GP or a con that wizards allowed it as a side event.
Stuff officially tied to WotC had to exclude even gold border.
Thanks for the video!
Hopefully one day I can get Genghis to call me an idiot and combo through my initiative deck
Frog is fair and balanced
I've 🎉 been 🎉 saying 🎉 this.

hey stoked to see you got 21 players! I know the week before signups were real light
Psychic Frog confirmed chill
Good to see another video!
Wake up baby new joeking video
Stumbled on this and I love your perspective on the game, especially politics. Hope to hear your thoughts more.
Babe wake up new Joking powerpoint dropped
You should make more mtg content. Most intelligent and we'll thought out video I've ever seen about a cedh deck.
my take away from this video is if a player sit on my table with a nadu deck, I'll rally everyone else to kill him first and then resume the game like normal.
Interesting video. Cedh is not how I like to play but even still hearing about your experience with a specific commander was cool.
Great video.I generally agree about the part, that a lot of people run way too many wincons. I disagree about the part with cephalid. The cost to include this line is almost zero, because it needs really only pieces you run anyway (except cephalid itself) You need: Endurance, cephalid coliseum, sylvan safekeeper, springheart nantuko or bounce spells. If you attach springheart nantuko on endurance, you can stack the cephalid triggers at instant speed without casting anything at this point. There were cases, where this really saved me.
Thanx <3 its a fun deck for sure
18:45 It turns out, Nadu already comes with double Nadu triggers 😝
So I adore playing Nadu. He is just literally fun and I personally do not take those 15-20 minute turks unless I know I'm winning & the table is making me go through the line manually. Secondly, while I do agree that people should not let "Nadu do the Nadu thing", this to me means that your opponents should not allow you to have your shuko or the other artifacts. Nadu on his own is not that scary....it is the things in the 99 that make him a green Hulk-Bird. Lol Lastly, not many people are running artifact hate stuff that blow them up like force of Vigor just yet, so I'm not entirely sure just having your shuko's out on the board is an entirely bad thing. But at this point, they should not let Nadu hit the board. Lol
Also imo, Displacer is an include in the deck just bc it wins you the game. 😅
Is showing your hand... good sportsmanship? I understand politics, and some deception in good fun, but this video really starts to come across as a defensive ramble justifying your bad sportsmanship lol. I'm sure it was well played too.
I really enjoyed this! I'd love to watch more content like this. You have a lot of valuable knowledge.
I totally agree on the point that casual players are going to play this card as a 7 which will lead to it getting banned. Also Nadu is one of the laziest card designs in recent memory. They designed the most busted Simic ability of all time then did not want to balance or fix it and just threw on "only twice per turn" so cringe.
Hard agree. I really dislike it. Power creep needs to be stopped. Treasures are bad enough
Bring Paradox back or ban Nadu.... Please RC
I've only started playing magic in the last year (I know this far down the rabbithole already) and don't play CEDH - not nearly competent enough for that, but this was exceptionally insightful deep look into styles of play and deckbuilding thank you! I'll defs apply some of this to my much jankier brews.
This video was a delight
Displacer kitten is mainly used for flickering Nadu to reset target triggers for all creatures, or flickering e-wit, last use would be protection.
Amazing video...
Not even done but really liking the video...
In the words of the 1982 surf rock anthology cassette "Surfin' USA," the bird is indeed the word.
thoughts on Fanatic of rohnas over the boreal?
Nadu is the broken card from MH3. I have to try and build an enchantress voltron deck to see if they're that strong even in that casual of a setting.
I really like the idea of playing Nadu, but even at a week into the actual release of MH3 I feel like I’m behind the curve. As someone just getting into cEDH, the politicking is something I’m not used to. I will build the deck, but also build T&K lol
The best deck in the format is a great place to focus on politics because the gameplay itself is a lot easier
Love playing Nadu in Arena. Pro tip...i run a locust god deck and i run at least 6 Pongify type cards or deep freeze type cards....where the creature loses all abilities. Thats nadu's cryptonite.
More Naru please 💪🏻
