Eve Elliot had a surprise hit with an early song by Scott Joplin at the 2024 West Coast Ragtime Festival and it was requested several times during the festival. Here's the second time she played it that I captured on video.

Ivory&Gold® (Jeff and Anne Barnhart) and TJ Müller perform Al Piantadosi's sentimental 1913 hit, "Curse of an Aching Heart," at the 2024 West Coast Ragtime Festival. Once again, I wasn't ready with the camera at the beginning of the video, so you get to see TWO different sheet music covers instead.

Vincent Johnson and John Reed-Torres play a terrific two-piano version of Scott Joplin's "Sugar Cane" accompanied by Eve Elliot and Max Libertor on duelling washboards at the 2024 West Coast Ragtime Festival. Unfortunately, I didn't get any live video until almost a minute in, but I did catch the audio. That's why the title card holds for so long! The performance was really fun, absolutely wond...

Love ragtime, a big influence on dixieland which influenced improvization and jazz
Always loved this piece. Tender and vulnerable -- almost whispering -- to start, moving to full confidence & emotiveness at the end. I remember DTR's friend from Japan, Takasi Hamada, performed this on guitar several years ago & posted it to either Facebook or TH-cam. I just checked his YT vids & don't see it there so perhaps it was FB only. But it was a beautiful rendition from what I recall. Would sure love to see/listen to it again.
Should stick with playing the piano IMHO.
Unfortunate mic placement. Trying to get a good balance on these live, impromptu recordings is nearly impossible.
One of Waller's coolest tunes!
.... played with no character.
@@stepaushi ??? What do you mean played with no character?
@@PiotrBarcz Character comes from the subtle things that are intuitive. Compare to Fats playing it. Dickie is pretty much just playing notes.
@@stepaushi He's improvising this whole thing, Neville never plays straight arrangements by others, I've found his playing to be very expressive. Just because the audio is dry doesn't mean the music is.
I usually love Andrew Sacks playing the piano, bu tif it is done out of beat with another player,. that's not useful to generate this feeling.
Loved it.
Would have preferred just the piano, which was great.
Thank God we still have musicians like this to keep this wonderful music alive.
Amazing performance for an 88 year old pianist.
Best selling because it only cost a buck to get at Walmart...
Tee-hee. It goes for big bucks on Ebay if you can even find a copy!😄
Virgin River....brought me here
Great!
I'm just hearing this for the first time tonight, and I can readily tell you that, among the versions that considerably depart from the score, this may be my favorite. I find the Floyd Cramer touch not only fetching but idiomatic! After all, "Roberto Clemente" was openly influenced by Nashville-style country, as well as pop music and ragtime. I look forward to hearing this live sometime, guys. David
I haven't hard this since my Grandad sang it (badly) in the 1960s. Thanks.
I'll Avenge My Comrades and The Death Stalker Tree
I love this! Great Eubie Blake number and performed here to the hilt!
I’ll have my revenge and Deathstalker 2
Amazing Piano and Bass! Merry Christmas everyone 🎅 🎹 🎶
Neville is definitely one of my favorite pianists despite my lack of listening to much of his work. He's got such a chicago sound!
Wonderful. Thank you for posting this.
I think that might be one of the few times Eve played the washboard on an actual big room set 😂 Max doesn't look self-conscious at all, he's always all business like that hahaha XD
This is a wonderful piece. Loved to see Vincent and John playing it! 👏👏
John always looks like he's playing the washboard in his sleep 😂
Oh, so nice!
They're great! I was at the Festival.
This is the first time I've heard Marty play a bass solo or in general play the bass with almost NO slapping, sounds awesome, so clean!
Nothing beats a good old upright bass!
Pretty cool! 😍
those little dances are adorable! <3 ^-^
Well Played.
how great!!
Far and away one of my favorites!
This one's always fun to do! Max's playing is super promising on brass in this arrangement of instruments!
It's so much fun to re-view these. Thanks!
Simply beautiful. Her voice reminded me Meredith Axelrod.
Yes! They are similar.
So beautiful ❤🔥
Several years in the making and at last a clear and concise document that can be searched for and found on the internet of this composition ❤
This is GREAT. love it so much.
What a cute and entertaining pair.
Sounds like John has a nice voice; I've never heard him sing.
He truly does! Once he posted a story on Instagram where he was singing and accompaning his own song, it was wonderful
Great movie
Two talented pianists that (like what another comment stated) make for a fantastic duo. 💖
Fantastic playing! Looks like great fun indeed!
Piotr and Max make a fantastic duo!
This looks great fun! I’m looking forward to attending my first ragtime festival. Can’t wait to play with Piotr
Same! Although not on piano, haha. I'll probably utilize a drum set. XD
@ Get a kazoo. Great fun and easy to play. Even if it sounds funny it’s better than nothing
So much talent! I remember when Tom Briar was your age.
Looks like so much fun!!
I was there !
🔥🔥
