My boyfriend tried and succeeded in making me jealous for five years using a variety of methods. The last time he tried a specific tactic that had proven to have had the biggest effect on me once before, he knew this because I had told him in detail how sick with jealousy I had been. He did not see it coming because he didn’t realise I had also been noting all the other subtle attempts to make me jealous. He couldn’t believe it. He really thought I was going to crumble and work harder for his affections but his disgusting attempt to gain control spectacularly backfired on him. He got sloppy, and he got cocky, and that combination is what did it. I instantly could see I’ve been hard on myself for being too jealous, forcing myself to endure more so I could work through my issues - but no I wasn’t jealous, I was reacting to his attempts to make me jealous. Two very different things.
