One of our wildland experts, Tracy Leyva, has a quick wildfire safety message for our community! In this clip, he's standing in front of the burn area from a half-acre grass fire started yesterday afternoon near Long Lake Regional Park. On the horizon, you can also see smoke from the Alexander Mountain Fire near Loveland.
Both of these incidents are reminders of the serious fire conditions present in our service area and throughout the state. Hot temperatures, low humidity, and dry fuels have combined to create dangerous fire weather. When these conditions combine with wind and a spark, fire growth can be rapid.
We are asking the community's help during this period - please use extreme caution or avoid any activity that could create a spark, and always pay attention to fire restrictions. The butt of a cigarette or a spark from the blade of a lawn mower could easily ignite dry grasses.
