12:35 And now from the studios of TVS, we say Goodbye To All That.
6:13 MAKING IT HERE IN THE SOUTH
3:35 MAKING IT HERE IN THE SOUTH
0:37
This is very similar in terms of the way the music is constructed to the Three Rivers Fantasy up at Tyne Tees, a slightly more abstract pastiche of traditional local tunes, it even flows similarly.
The Friday programme menu is from January 4th, 1985. (The Superman 2 premiere was advertised as part of ITV's Christmas line-up of films.) Anglia's Thursday schedule ended with its final programme at 00:35 followed by closedown, which would date this clip as also the early hours of that Friday (4th January, 1985.)
This was the official end of free TV in Europe from the UK and Ireland. Eurosport was used by Murdoch to get a monopoly. If someone says something else, it is wrong. Sky Sports didn't need to close down and on the 1st of September 1993, all Sky channels were closed off.
This is beautiful.
There is a version of Green Grow The Rushes O.
This is beautiful.
I'm gonna say 1967
Such a shame TVS lost its franchise, seemed like a great company and ITV station back in the day. I was born a month after it was announced TVS lost it's franchise, Meridian was rubbish compared to TVS. Still nice to see that the studios in Maidstone are still in operation to this day just sadly loads of houses built in front of it on the car park site but least it's still standing unlike the Southampton site.
Southern: First time?
Brilliant stuff. This takes me back to those days in the 80s. I was lucky to have lived very close to the BMH Hannover BFBS Television transponder and thus was able to watch the selection of news and series not available anywhere else in Germany at the time. This was before the days of satellite TV or the internet mind you. My cheap b/w telly, an East-German model, was so cheap that it would also play the UK sound which was on a different frequency gap as the German system. Mainly watched the news, TOTP and the A-Team. Minder as well. Watching these old recordings makes my heart sing.
Back in the heyday of ITN - what a great presenter Gordon was.
Keith was on Southern too
so epic trip, catch you later,🔥
Cool

This will have been Friday 4 May, 1984.
RIP Keith Martin
Fascinating
I would be so thankful to receive this program in my youth. But I was lucky to grow up with German, Belgium and Dutch TV. Maybe I was able to got a reception for some days in the year from the transmitter in Düsseldorf in those days.
This was as a result of a legal case taken by their main competitor Screensport. I'm not sure what the specifics of that case were, but Sky ended up giving up their broadcast contract with the EBU to play out the service. TF1 took it up later in the month.
This is Thursday 25 January 1990
Keith Martin was continuity announcer for TVS
... and Rediffusion, and Anglia, and ABC, and YTV, and ATV, and LWT, not to mention the BBC! Lovely man who I had the great pleasure of working with.
@@dwaynehastings8045is he still alive?
@@Manuel89-90Sadly, no.
Weren’t there rumours about Diana Dors sexual conduct with young children?
The changes that happened post early 90's compared to the setup of ITV companies up to then really was criminal - there was so much talent and flair of ITV region broadcasters that easily matched any slick American tv broadcasting as all of these TVS archive show and would still hold up even now in terms of its graphics, theme music etc. being memorable and actually meaning something! Just sad how so much was lost of from the course of events that ripped up how great the ITV setup of broadcasters once was.
I was born in 199
This isn't genuine but a poor recreation
Thank you for your comment. Obviously this is a recreation but I would however be interested to know exactly what you meant by "not genuine" and also what it was you felt made it a poor recreation. All three sections of this recreation were in fact used in this exact sequence on air in the late 50s/early 60s.
Thank you for this. As far i can tell, it is just as I remember it being; particularly the authentic recording of Southern Rhapsody and the best quality visuals at the end.
I know he later sadly died of cancer, so I read in the Test Card Circle magazine in 1996 at the time of course. But thank you anyway so too.
I like the use of BBC theme tunes on the continuity slides
Carefully chosen (and back-timed) using the themes from the last program in the rundown. Glad you appreciated it.
3:52 That's Keith Martin - he was an Anglia TV continuity announcer with a rather quirky sense of humour.
Always provide the broadcast date.
From the news headlines 31 Oct 1984
Thank you
It was a very sad time. Best channel of 1990, It came back from Paris but would never be the same.
I’m surprised that they combined both ITV and BBC programmes and using BBC news to show the news instead of ITN news
ITN News at 5:45 is showed at 6:45 CET. The BBC 9 o’clock news is showed at 10:00 CET. Both live - as they have already a direct live link with UK channels, mostly to show these news bulletins, and BBC’s Grandstand on Saturdays afternoon
Hmmm. Isn't considered really bad form to reference a paid commercial, even if it's just by intonation as seen here, in a continuity announcement?
Exactly what I thought!
Classic BFBS - now sadly gone but fondly remembered
Fix the date to Sunday 17th February 2008 please
Keith was good
Date?
5 May 1984
@@dwaynehastings8045 thanks
Very Cool!
Used to love this guy on BFBS! 😊
Still have nightmares after watching Threads
Fun fact: the programme called 'Think and Drive' is actually a German TV programme called 'Der 7. Sinn' ('The 7th Sense'). You can in fact see the English title insert being shot on video instead of film like the original title sequence at 2:35 and the logo of the production company, public broadcaster WDR (West German Television) at 2:42.
Analog death
0:00 This is a stop- EUROSPORT ©1990
3:44 Random announcer: All the spor- SKY: NO MORE SPORT PLEASE! Then the end of the worl. (Jenga tower collapse)
Then ANOTHER EUROSPORT ident follows with the message "a member of Eurovision". inb4 it was an hint for Euronews... (I don't care if it began to exist 2 years later). Then, the black screen of death.
@rovinieta227 yeah, they interrupted the voice at "All the sport" and dismantled the then Eurosport logo. Nevertheless they did a final ident. If you did read my other replies earlier this thread you would have seen me commenting about that as well.
I don't recall any of those promos and I lived in the region, I do know that TVS was one of the stations to stick the middle finger up at the 1989 "Get Ready" Generic Ident though. The only time we heard the Dundas theme was either in promos or for the ITV Weather broadcast.
I’m surprised that BFBS didn’t have its own news service. It could do national and international news, forces news and investigative journalism.
that is a huge outlay of cash when you have perfectly good services you can use, what would have been the point?
My friend once served Kennedy a bowl of soup at The Old Course Hotel in St. Andrews. She said he was a true gentleman. What a legend.
Arlene Stuart, Diana Speed and the legend KT… my youth! We always used to take the piss out of Kate Fraser and Robin Galloway 😂
