For this you'll need a torqe tool set. (Star Shape bit) You need the T20 size, but usually, they give you a little selection anyway. It's pretty easy to do. Start by taking the screws out from undeneath the lower shelf, put the screws in the ashtray. Then take the rear centre console apart. (This just pulls off, it's only clipped in.) Tricky getting bloke hands in the tiny area there but managed to get it out when I actually stopped looking at what I was doing and did it by feel. All sorted, swapped out and blowing on all numbers. Got the part for a tenner from a breakers yard and it took half an hour to disassemble and put it all back together. Cheers.
explodMAtt thanks for taking the time to comment. That's pretty much how I done it, by feel. Is is quite tight as you say, I've got big hands as well. If it goes again, try looking at buying new, I don't think I paid much more than £10 for the new part. I hope the video helped in some way. Thanks
Thanks! Exactly what I needed. It seems that VW have about 110 different resistor styles, and they all are mounted in different places. After trying all the YT videos on the topic, yours was the solution!

why take off the centre piece?
It was my very first time doing it, I did say there's was probably an easier way to do it. However if memory serves, I'm sure when I was doing this I had to take everything off just to access the screws I needed to get to.

It was reasonable good instructions, but difficult to take part of his spoken language (dialect).
That's the west coast of Scotland accent for you. If I spoke like I normally do you'd have trouble understanding me LOL

Thank you so much for this. It was a big help. Two things: 1) You do not need to remove the entire center console. Unscrew the three shelf screws. Then hold the shelf to the side and unscrew the three screws that hold the bottom of the glove box. Then using a short screwdriver you can remove the three screws inside the gbox.. 2) I found that unlatching the resistor and pulling the assembly out using the wires was easier that unplugging it while the risitor was still latched. Anyways, TYVM.

ll the screws. It shouldn't take much force to lift the centre console off. The resistor shouldn't cost anymore than £35.00 and the part number is 6Q0959263A
Sorry guys but I've not been on in a while! The wiring connector is literally pinch the sides of the connector with your fingers and pull. You might have to wiggle it side to side to get it to move but it will come off. Don't be scared about being rough, you won't break anything in there. As for the centre console, once the screws are out, you'll just need to give it a gentle tug as it is held in place with clips. If it doesn't come off with a gentle tug, then double check you have removed a

Okay nearly there, I removed the centre console and the glovebox is now removed, unfortunately I can't disconnect the wiring connector. I'm squeezing the tabs and pulling upwards, but it won't budge. Any pointers anyone?
