This is a fantastic interview and thanks Eugene for doing it and sharing it. I think it really shows what a GREAT panman Ray Holman is, with his acknowledged track record as well as a vision for the future of pan. He speaks with intelligence, humor, and most of all LOVE, and we all would do well to listen and move the artform forward. Pan on the Move-don’t doubt it!!! 🎶🎶🎶👏🏿👏🏻👏🏼👈🏽🙏🏼❤️🚶🏻♂️

Sounds like a Starlift arrangement.
You are correct! Ray re-created this arrangement for us from a 1969 recording of the arrangement that he did for Starlift for Panorama. I beleieve that Ray won the Panorama with this arrangement that year!

Sounds amazing, Eugene! You’re created an outstanding program over the years. Love the “Bollywood” jam section in the middle. Sounded kinda Indian to me. 👍 Is that Howie in the engine room? 👏 Love the drum set player. I’m not sure there is anything like being a drummer in a large steel band driving the energy like that. So fun! Btw, my daughter wants to visit Humbolt for a college tour. Ha! It would be so awesome if she chose to attend there.
Thanks Dave! That drummer's name is Odalys Ramirez and she is an excellent groove player for sure! Ray calls that jam section in the middle the "exotic" section, and it is definitely influenced by Middle Eastern/Eastern European scales. And that is very cool that your daughter is interested in Humboldt. Hit me up if you all visit - that would be great!

Wow, wow, wow… The energy, the performance! So proud to see a 37 (!) year old arrangement (of Lord Kitchener’s composition) by the legendary Jit Samaroo still given its evergreen status. Believed to be the most prolific pan arrangement played around the world and you can see why. Play on Humboldt, play on 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 And you couldn’t miss that HADCO Phase II Pan Groove sticker at centre 😀
