Hi! I see you are trying to complete one of the hardest late game challenges in the base game, which you can do if you are stubborn enough, but there are so, so many paths where you can explore to get meaningful upgrades for your character right now. If you look on the map, you can see some unfinished black tunnels on the map, teasing new places. You have to check map areas more precisely - there a lot of them which you can access already. I can give some hints down, if you want you can check it ... There are some important parts of the bottom royal waterways you have not explored. You also have the key to something important in the ancient basin...
Thank you so much. It was lovely to see you pop by yesterday on stream 😊 As you've probably worked out by now, I *am* going to be stubborn, but I do appreciate the hints; and I really appreciate that they are just hints and not spoilers ❤️
So, TH-cam randomly boosted your video for me because I've been watching some gameplay vids recently - man it's still so painful to see people start playing ONI (as well as other games to be honest). However, even where you made some pretty hard beginner mistakes, you clearly have an analytical mind and were able to figure out things pretty quickly, and that's pretty cool! Good video 👍
Thank you for your kind comment 😊 I hope the video wasn't too painful to watch. Sadly, I stopped streaming Oxygen Not Included owing to lack of interest, but I did enjoy what I played of it. I'm also pleased to know that you thought the video was good.
impressive gameplay!!
I don't know about that, but thank you 😅
Great game
It really is a great game. Such a shame I'm so bad at it :(
How did you miss the actual puzzle at the first teleporter for that long?
Do you mean the translation puzzle? IIRC that requires the scientists' language, which I didn't know at that point. I did go back to it later though. 🙂
@@elmagnificogames No, the one at 4:10:55. You've been in that room at least three times, and chat told you to look in that area... I was yelling at my monitor 😅
@@Lueluekopter Oh, that one! Well... I never claimed to be the sharpest bulb in the box 😅
Full analysis of Devotee language: Components: Line underneath the glyph means verb A half-circle to the left of glyph means "Contain potential" (e.g. key contains potential to open) A frame encasing the glyph means location. - Type of glyphs: Pure - Glyphs which don't contain glyphs or components in themselves (e.g. death, music, god, man) Composed - Glyphs which are composed out of component and glyph (e.g. devotee, instrument, cemetery, key) - Deconstructing: Using all this knowledge we can deconstruct multiple composed glyphs which contain unknown glyphs. Door=Contain Potential+Unknown Glyph I could assume that glyph in "door" is "stop" because that's what door's function is. So door contains potential to stop which makes sense. (PURELY THEORETICAL. ITS UNKNOWN WHAT GLYPH PRESENT IN DOOR ACTUALLY MEANS) - Constructing: Opposing deconstructing we can construct glyphs ourselves. How about we create word for gardener? First of all, gardener is a human, so we draw "L" to indicate man. Second gardener is related to plants, so we draw "plant" glyph to indicate that. So we get Man+Plant=Gardener Quite simple and fun! - Here's so much I would like to tell you. But TH-cam comments are quite limited. Maybe I'll do a bit of explanation in discord if you're not against that.
Goodness, I can see that you've studied the language very diligently. You're welcome to post more on the Discord server if you'd like 😊
Just found your playtrough. I must say, i am quite impressed. 1st playtrough i have seen where people take notes. Also, figuring out that zero g cave must be in the center of the planet right away is totaly brilliant. You are gona love this game.
Thank you, you're very kind. I'm not sure that I'm all that brilliant, but I appreciate the support.
It saddens me that you didn't realize the seed in the bramble is surrounded by dead Nomai bodies. Not "scientific equipment." 6:23:29 You jump to conclusions far too quickly about the solutions/expectations for a given puzzle or bit of information. You haven't even figured out how to land on the Quantum Moon yet, so you don't know what this "shrine" even is. Yet you think you have a full understanding of what the north pole/south pole puzzle requires, and the function of the shrine. So you dismiss your presumed, incorrect interpretation of the information as "obnoxious." Remember the solution to getting into the Sun Station Warp Tower. This game consistently provides subtle and elegant solutions. You're just showing impatience in not letting the game lead you there.
You've got me there on both counts. Hope I didn't disappoint you too much. 😅
I've watched the two VODs you've posted for this game thus far. You're doing well overall. I'm going to offer a bit of unrequested advice that you can certainly ignore or take to heart. And if you'd like, I will gladly buzz off and never make a suggestion again. But I have to put it out there: USE YOUR SHIP LOG. You've used it once or twice, and never seem to return to it, and I don't understand why. It's so helpful indicating connections you're seeing (but then forgetting about) and when there's more to explore that you may have missed. If nothing else, it'll soothe those frustrations you are holding onto that puzzles are just there for "lore" reasons. Hope this is helpful. And if it's not, or if you'd rather not have been told this at all, I sincerely apologize. I just want your experience to be as good as it can be.
Hello @prestidigititis483, thank you for the comment, and no need to apologise 😊 I've addressed why I don't use the ship's log all that much at the start of my third Outer Wilds stream, as it is a good point. The short version is that I've felt like I've got plenty to explore right now without using it for additional leads, though I certainly haven't forgotten about it 😉
@@elmagnificogames Well I'm glad it's in the back of your mind still. But "finding new/additional leads" isn't really the purpose of the log, and it's not why I thought to mention it. Just so ya know.
P r o m o s m 🍀
Thank you, I think?
You're totally right on the vaccine, maybe they're hoping to get the vaccine in the off chance that they get infected. I think they should have said cure. Unless they're in the lottery so they don't have to wear a gas mask
Later in the game we do learn a bit more about how the vaccine actually functions, and its not really a vaccination or a cure as I understand the terms, but I shan't spoil it 😉
Oof never got the hint that you can drop Fire berries on the ground.
A kindly viewer did tell me in the end, but by then I had almost finished mapping the labyrinth so I didn't see the need anymore. Thanks for dropping by, I hope you enjoyed the video 😊
@@elmagnificogamesloved it hope you continued and will have the rest of the streams up sometime soon. Did you already or do you have plans to play parts 2 and 3? They’re even better, and Westwood learned their lesson and there are no soft locks I’m aware of. You okay as the witty alchemist Zanthia in part 2 and get to see Malcom’s side of the story in part 3. I highly recommend them. Also can’t recommend the point and click adventure game Primordia enough, insanely good and deep. The developer Wormwood Studios just released their second game a couple months back: Strangeland though it’s a bit more on the horror side of things it still looks to be a deep and thought provoking point and click adventure.
@@Mach10X I'll be continuing the game later today on the other website, then I should have the video up here by Monday or Tuesday. I do plan to play parts 2 and 3 after I've finished this one, and then after that I was thinking of giving a game called "Bug Fables: The Everlasting Sapling" a look. Also, thank you so much for the game suggestions, I don't play every game I'm recommended but it does make finding good games to stream so much easier, I really do appreciate it.
Nice video, dropped a like!
Thank you, that's very kind.
Wow, that's definitely the first time I've seen someone pick up their copy of the Bible and casually read from it while playing Talos 😂 That's awesome
I'd forgotten about that, I'm glad I could be somewhat entertaining :)
Thanks for uploading the stream here! There are too few Talos Let's Plays, and yours is excellent 👍I'm excited for Talos 2, hope to watch you play that one, too, after I've finished it <3
Oh, thank you very much, that is very kind of you to say =^.^=
Cool video. Keep up the good work
Thank you, that's very nice of you to say =^.^=
Thanks for playing! This was a huge passion project for me back when I released it. Looking back, I think the puzzle ideas were quite creative, but the execution was pretty hit or miss. If Talos 2 has an editor, I'm hoping to make an even better experience!
No, thank you for watching and commenting on my playthrough, it is an honour. In my humble opinion, the puzzles were very good with few misses. Rather, it is particularly challenging to ask players to both deduce novel mechanics and navigate a complex puzzle simultaneously, e.g. the bouncing off the force field trick in Jumping the Fence. I think that trick was particularly obscure as players would be accustomed to thinking of fans as a means to bypass force fields. However, I don't think this is to do with the execution of individual puzzles so much as what ideas a given player has encountered up to that point. Indeed, I think it helped me immensely that I had just completed several other community maps before I came to Rebirth as it gave me quite a large toolkit of ideas to work from. Anyway, the passion really shows, and if you do make a community experience for Talos 2 then I for one will certainly be looking forward to it =^.^=
Thanks for coming to my TED talk 😝
It was nice to see this beautiful map after a few years
Very interesting puzzles too; simply designed but with intricate solutions. I'm still kicking myself over the fact that I didn't solve Quantum Quarantine without hints, but alas, sometimes we do struggle more than we should. That said, I thoroughly enjoyed Rebirth overall.
rebirth is a marvolous mod, good choice
Thank you very much. Fingers crossed things go more smoothly next session 😅
Wow very nice with this star, I remember how I could not earn it and did'nt know the solution..✌️ I hope one day I will see you playing Mysteries from beyond the grave but if you do, start with part 3 because there is a start for really challenging puzzles. Good luck
Thank you, that's very kind of you to say. I'm not sure if I'll get around to Mysteries from Beyond the Grave, but if I do, then I will bear this in mind =^.^=
Are you using some button for remembering connections? Because I see that you are making connections again, everytime when you take the connector
I am not. I'm on controller, and I believe none of the default controller layouts incorporate the "Alternative Use" function. I may need to set up my own custom bindings if it becomes necessary to have a connector remember its connections. Well spotted.
All right, just asking, because there are some puzzle , which require this function
Nice gameplay, I really like how properly you explore the world
Oh, thank you, that's very kind of you to say.
Njce gameplay! Try sometimes my content in workshop - Mysteries from beyond the grave! ✌️
I'm glad you enjoyed the video, though I'll have to politely turn down your suggestion for now. Presently, I had intended to play only a few very critically acclaimed mods before moving on to another game, but I'll keep it in mind for the future.
Aww you didn't look at any of the other endings?
I'm afraid not. I can tell you're not a gentleman that would be pleased with my Myst V or Obduction videos either 😅
@@elmagnificogames oh?
@@UncleUncleRj 🤐
It's been a while but I think the point of the sounds in the tram ride thing is that they lead you the correct path to the exit so that you don't have to brute force it or draw a map. The whole Selenitic Age relies on sound puzzles. N, S, E, W directions each have a sound that plays, and NE, NW etc play a combination of those sounds.
That's a very interesting thought. I'd need to experiment more to be sure. Thank you for watching btw 😊
Hi, I know its a bit too late, but I wanted to share a strategy that I use for solving the tetromino puzzles. Your solution at 3:26:44 consists of 5 sub-blocks. The 3x4 subblock in the upper right consisting of the 1x4 and 2x2 pieces, the 3x4 subblock beneath, the 2x4 subblock consisting of two L's right of it and the 4x4 subblock in the upper left corner. Besides general symmetry, I always try to find out whether I can fill the puzzle with such subblocks. And for these subblocks themselves you can again test for symmetry. I find it easier to remeber or construct these smaller subblocks and then combine them to a larger shape (if possible) than tackling the whole puzzle at once. Sometimes you can even find non rectangular subblocks. For example with an L and S piece you can build a 3x3 block with one corner missing. You can build the same from two T pieces. Hope that helps someone!
That's good advice! I struggled with the tetromino puzzles right up until the end. Certainly, if I find myself attempting similar puzzles in the future I'll try to remember this. As for the two T pieces, perhaps I'm being a bit daft, but I cannot work out how they could form a 3x3 block with one corner missing, since their bounding boxes would each be 2x3 blocks, and I cannot think of a way to make them share a row or column within a 3x3 block without some overlap. To put it another way, imagine a T piece placed anywhere within a 3x3 block, where can you find room to slot another T piece in? Thank you for watching btw ☺
@@elmagnificogames You got me there. I muddle up some of shapes. It has been quite a long time since I played this game myself. What I meant was that with a L and Z piece you can create the same shape as with two T pieces. In this case the shape would be a little bit weirder (see below). But it seems you pushed through these puzzles regardless :) I like your playthrough in general. Its quite thoughtful. ### #0 00 0 ### 0# 00 0
@@tanik1275 Ah, that makes sense. Also, you're very kind, thank you.
I have to correct you at around 5:15:00. The painter's algorithm for rendering is actually pretty bad, as it cannot handle cyclicly overlapping or intersecting objects. And especially with modern hardware, rendering has become extremely parallelised which also does not work with the painter algorithm (it needs to draw all objects sequentially). Instead a parallel pipeline is used where each object is handled individually. This allows for culling (meaning removal of objects that are not currently in view) at a very early stage in the pipeline and therefore can increase performance drastically. Only at the very end, a depth buffer (distance from object to camera) comparison is made for each pixel to determine which object is actually seen in that pixel. Hope that doesn't come of as a know-all, but I wanted to share a little bit more insight. Great playthrough by the way. I have to say you are pretty good at finding the stars. I took a lot longer for some of those.
Oh, thank you, you're very kind 😊 I do hope you've been enjoying the videos. Also, I agree with everything you've said about rendering; rewatching this it seems I may have muddled up my terminology more than a little too. As you rightly allude to, the fact that GPUs can now run thousands of threads in parallel given suitably well optimized code really changes the game, though it is still my understanding that a good algorithm to quickly determine the set of visible objects (or an approximate superset) can still be very beneficial, however it could simply be that my understanding is out of date. Also, please don't worry, I didn't think you sounded like a know-all 😉
Great video! I'll admit I've played through this game so many times its refreshing seeing somebody new come in and learn. You even taught me something i had no idea about. Its that you can use the mouse wheel to cycle through actions. If you ever want to replay the games with mods i have a specific folder for around 10gb of mods that all work together and installing them is as easy as copy and paste. I would recommend what you are doing and just diving into the game because the base game is sooooooo goood. I look forward to seeing your actions and story decisions as I've never watched anybody else play this game before.
Thank you very much sir! I'm glad you're enjoying it 😊 I must admit, I wasn't aware that the game had such a prodigious modding community supporting it. Though I'm not sure if I will go back to play the game again with mods, you've certainly peaked my curiosity. Which aspects of the game do the mods address? new content? more character customization? sound and graphics enhancements? a mixture of all the above?
@@elmagnificogames It's mostly texture mods and QOL things like making the game full screen in 1080p or higher resolutions plus some audio and balancing flavor. I would say it mostly just adds to the base game. Mods for the second game however adds a chunk of new content as in a whole world that was never finished during development of the game and i would recommend modding that one before a play. The mods for the second game also adds content in the form of weapons and robes and new armors. As well as the usual QOL and texture updates.
First
Second?
1:24:31 - You wondered what happened here. Remember that debris that was sitting on the elevator? You recognized the emblem on the side. It was the part of the dome of the visiting chamber that Atrus made at the top of the age. When Sirrus destroyed the chamber a piece must have landed on the elevator blocking your path up. That chamber was made out of nara rock so the only thing that could destroy it was Sirrus' crystal bombs. You moved the cup (at 1:09:33) out of the way so the bomb fell on the floor and exploded.
Oh wow, thank you, I'd never have figured that out 😅
3:52:27 - You were looking to see if the the crystals had an associated circle, hexagon, or octagon. You were on the right track but the shapes are very subtle so you missed them. Here are timestamps where the shapes are visible in case you're curious :) 2:55:37 - Pentagon 3:24:42 - Octagon 3:33:19 - Circle
Though I am curious, sadly I can't make out the shapes even with your helpful timestamps 😅
1:34:43 - I don't think you ever found Catherine's journal (it's in a drawer in the garden laboratory). Catherine was on Tay trying to relax after a disagreement with Atrus about releasing thier sons.
I think you're right, I don't remember that journal whatsoever. However, that would explain a lot. Thank you 😊
1:58:52 The game was mostly pre-rendered like the other Myst games. But it was mixed with some real time 3D rendering overlaid on each 360 viewing sphere. It was a complex method which is why it takes so long to load each sphere. I'm sure that's why the lighting changes during cinematics because different teams were working on different tasks and they were less coordinated than the previous games where it was all rendered at once with less compositing. Edit: Looks like this is addressed by chat at 2:02:16 :)
I think this episode is misnamed (should be "4") :)
Corrected, thank you :)
The OCD in me still is bothered by the ending you chose :)
Sorry to disappoint, hopefully you can forgive me. 🙂
@@elmagnificogames Haha, it's not the strongest game in the series so you're forgiven. Thanks for sharing the playthrough.
Everyone who plays this game deserves a like ;-)
