Alex Harvey, Creative Director & Co-Founder
Before becoming Creative Director and Co-Founder of RiVR, I was making fancy racing games trailers for games with Codemasters and running a video company that started 2014. Now, based in Southam, Warwickshire, Life evolves so fast and in 2017 I started RiVR, bringing a team together to push the limits of Extended Reality - mainly because they’re cleverer than me but Im much like Steve Jobs, I have a vision that others can execute better. In just 7 years, RiVR’s gone from a UK thing to a big international deal, creating photo-realistic training environments for the Ministry of Defence, emergency services, and for companies in the UAE, USA, Europe and beyond. We aim to make VR so realistic it feels like you’re actually there... without the the cost of the travel. I’m all about showing people how VR/MR training is speeding up human learning
Tyronne Leon-Fernandez, Immersive Content Creator & Technologist
I've been passionate about technology for as long as I can remember, always eager to get my hands on the latest innovations whenever I or my family could afford them. I’ve experienced the leaps from changing TVs, to the arrival of the internet, to the rapid evolution of mobile phones-bringing messaging, cameras, and more into our pockets. But the moment that truly changed everything for me was when I tried the Oculus DK1 for the first time. Despite the excitement, I walked away disappointed, thinking I could create a more immersive experience. Fast forward to 2024, and that’s exactly what I do-pushing headsets to their limits in pursuit of the most visually immersive experiences possible. I thrive in the fast-paced world of XR and spatial computing, and I couldn’t imagine my life without it anymore.

      @@MetaRickPodcast do you think that the makers of generative AI paid for the billions of images it takes to train their models? Or do you think maybe they just went around stealing other people's intellectual property? Ya I think that’s the point Mo is making. if you’re buying groceries cash or card still makes the most sense, the typical consumer doesn’t have much benefit using crypto in their day2day at least not now. Maybe if you’re transferring really large sums of money it’s more efficient than the red tape in traditional banks, or if you want to leverage smart contracts and tokenization for an online community then it’s useful enough to use. So when looking at a new technology like the blockchain we should be curious and it’s okay to get excited and experiment on how to use it…. but also be skeptical and pragmatic about its use cases.

    can I 'visualize' a cheaper option?

    • @MetaRickPodcast
      @MetaRickPodcast 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I mean is it expensive? $500 for a quest 3 is less than a gaming PC or a modern console $1,200 for some of the enterprise options is break even if you save one international flight The ROI is actually crazy good 😅

    • @NotAShawn
      @NotAShawn 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@MetaRickPodcast expensive is a subjective term... It totally affordable if you're single.. most of us have to buy a PC, a Switch, and PS5, Cell Phones for the family, tablets, new games wanted, subscription fees, in-game purchases, and Wi-Fi to run it all.. thats all on top of regular bills... so yes having to buy another device or, in turn, give up others to be able to afford just the set itself is literally the definition of expensive. Yes for the average household that has already bought multiple devices and everything that comes with them, this is not affordable.

    • @MetaRickPodcast
      @MetaRickPodcast 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @NotAShawn if you’re buying all the that other stuff it’s still not expensive… you’re just prioritizing a different console for different games. Which is totally fine, there’s other benefits to those other options. I still think for a consumer it’s a luxury toy basically just like a ps5 or a switch, and it’s in the same range as any of those other examples you’re describing. The games also tend to be a bit cheaper too and there’s other apps outside of games like meditation, fitness, etc. For business use cases the price is actually not even a common objection. Rarely comes up as a concern from my experience and from all the folks I’ve interviewed. The bigger blockers are getting people into first time experiences so they understand what it is + creating custom content + meeting the necessary security requirements. I’m not saying everyone can or should buy these devices yet, I actually think we’re still a few years away from larger consumer adoption. We need to compare it to the category that it’s in and the experience it’s giving. For $500 for a quest 3 is insanely cheap for what that device can do. An experience that was only a dream as recently as 10 years ago, and that saves companies millions of dollars in training and workplace collaboration.

    • @NotAShawn
      @NotAShawn 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@MetaRickPodcast Sure... like I said if we forgo other devices to make up for it sure but if you already have all of that stuff there is no reason to buy a VR set unless its on impulse or for trend reasons. It makes so much more sense as a family to buy a few hundred dollar tablets instead of one vr set to share... it isnt consumer friendly... a PC has cross platform play for most online games and a ps5 or xbox and have multiple users at once... a VR set makes no sense unless you are 1. single, 2. have extra capital to waste, 3. Its your next big purchase, or 4. You get rid of some of the things you are already accustomed to and you may not even prefer it in the end to the things you got rid of. I have nothing against it but for a family who makes less than 70k a year... it would have to fit in a very niche purchase timeline of which is usually Christmas or birthday based most certainly not as a substitute for family entrainment which the other gadgets do in abundance. While 500 his cheap it is not a viable replacement for the others but more of a niche purchase per request or as a gift. Imagine three kids fighting over a headset when I can put 3 controllers in their hands or tablets for the same price as one vr set at the cheapest...its limited in this fashion and thats why its expensive

    • @MetaRickPodcast
      @MetaRickPodcast 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @NotAShawn ya I think you make some valid points. But I think different people enjoy the experience differently too. Some people might value it more than you do and less than I do. Definitely valid that other platforms have a deeper ecosystem that make them more consumer friendly. I’d rephrase “have extra capital to waste” for just having extra capital. It’s not a waste of you enjoy the experience. Regardless though I agree it’s more of a business facing product right now. If you listen to the podcast you’ll see it’s all about business use of VR not about consumers really. Thanks so much for sharing your perspective and diving in with me though. It’s really valuable to hear what you think and helps me be more aware of how others are feeling about the technology 🙏🏽

    • @MetaRickPodcast
      @MetaRickPodcast ปีที่แล้ว

      that's one of the things I love about Azra's approach... they're using AI to help their studio do more and have a great priority structure on where they spend human hours vs AI. The more emotional the component like Heros, Villains will be where they put the most human hours and use AI to help scale world building and aspects of NPCs (still have human involvement, but they're able to do a lot more with a lean startup this way). I think around 42min in he dives into this perspective.

    • @yogi4261
      @yogi4261 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not necessarily. So far nobody lost jobs in Azra because of AI but rather their productivity, quality of production and cost efficiency have all increased. You dont have to shrink personnal because of AI. You can also expand quality and speed of development with the staff at hand which is more important, than cutting down human input.
