You don't do side hustles in between jobs?
Yes i did, will be making a video detailing the gig jobs that i worked in between.
Love the videos ❤❤❤
Thank you! ❤️
The outgoing regime has thoroughly cooked the economic books.
Keep it going
Thank you for your support! ❤️
What kinda dual monitor did you pull out your bag? U clipped it on the laptop, it looked so cool. I need another monitor for the days I work from home.
I got this monitor on Amazon, it was great purchase and definitely helps a lot with my work productivity. Here is the link : Teamgee Laptop Screen Extender,... www.amazon.com/dp/B0CD1GL4YZ?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
@@Sams-explorations thank you!
so this is less "working in tech" but taking classes? is this a college course or something like a certificate?
I work full time in tech overnight as a CX associate while pursuing my Software Engineering degree at WGU
Chile, I heard that nail! I hope you are okay… lol! Question: what is a Cx associate?
lol yes girl i am ok! Still getting used to wearing nails again after having my kids 🤣 CX is Customer experience. We basically are Customer and Technical Support via online ticketing, chat and email.
they was just hirin cause of surplus of cash from 0 interest, now that its costly, they cutting useless departments, they inflated egos of many people making them think they are qualified
Some had inflated egos, a lot of us really worked hard to learn new skills so that we could make more money. As cost old living is rising, how do we keep up if not?
I work in a call center! Water and sewer. Girl customers are a mess
I used to work at the call center for child support enforcement and we were garnishing Stimulus checks during covid. They were calling in HOT! 🥵😭
@@Sams-explorations 😮 wow I can imagine. I think it's cool you taught yourself coding and the tech stuff. I like your content. Ima continue watching.
@chelseasmith2943Thank you so much for your support! ❤
Yes girl I feel you on being a mom in the work place. Having to use so much sick and annual leave time bc the children get sick at school. When u work from home it's much easier to take care of the children and work. I took off 5 hour yesterday and then I had to call off today bc my children are sick. It's so stressful. I work for my local government and they make us do 2 days at home and 3 days in office. We used to be 100% remote, They stay going back and forth, so annoying.
It’s so hard, I’m sure you’re ready to go back to full remote work! 😩 Hang in there, wishing you the best! ❤️
2am cold freeze.
Cold in Massachusetts these days 🥶
I’m so done with this sh straight out of college on 2019 then the panedmic hit, i stayed during the great resignation, quit and burned out and came back to what I call the great rejection, got into tech and had the tech layoffs. I managed to get a contract position but it’s still not stable. It’s been 9 years for this BS. I’m TIRED! I’m so done, please, I need someone to predict the future for me so I can make the right decisions. I can’t take this anymore!
I totally understand the frustration, please stay the course even if it means taking a step back and going at a slower or different pace. wishing you the best ❤️
You said a mouthful this whole video. I'm praying for you on your journey!
Thank you so much for your support! 🙏🏾❤️
Target told me no too. I ended up taking a job cashiering overnights at a casino after 8 months unemployed. Minimum wage. $15 an hour. No shift differential. People don't like to tip. And they shouldn't have to. Here's the kicker ... It's a union job. Pay dues to who for negotiating minimum wage? Why? Thank God I am blessed with a better job.
We all do what we have to do because this is real life and bills don’t stop during a layoff, sickness or whatever else. I’m proud of you, congrats on the better job!
Love the channel everything is so accurate as i go through the same thing. I got my remote job from Robert half so i relate 😂keep making the great content. Very informative and interesting
So happy i’m finding my community 😭 Thank you so much for your support! ❤️
I resigned from my GOOD paying job around this time last year when there were talks of my department disbanded and being moved to a fully-office role. Fortunately, I secured my position, but throughout last year, I struggled to land any other substantial employment. My current job pays significantly less than I have earned in previous, but I love the autonomy it offers, the reduced stress, and most importantly, it is remote. FAST FORWARD now the company I'm with now is going through a "restructuring" I'm so stressed out I feel like if I lose this job, I'll never be able to find something else. I've been applying for new jobs every day in my spare time. I feel like this is going to be me going forward working jobs and always looking just to make sure I have a feeling of some sort of job security. There's a lot of 1099 opportunities too that are easy to get into that I've been taking advantage of.
Everything you have stated is true. During the pandemic I was laid off took me 5 months to land my next position, which was a step up to Sr. Data Analyst (it took a year for unemployment to pay me). I received notice a week ago that my entire dept. was being eliminated 2/28 is our last day. Meanwhile, they have opened 3 overseas facilities all IT/AI related. I'm in overdrive as far as my focus. I'm back in school working towards my Masters and also getting additional certs for Project Management.
I’m sorry to hear about the layoff but i’m glad that enough notice was given to start planning accordingly. That unemployment wait is a killer because when your in the thick of it, it can be a make or break type situation as far as livelihood. Congrats on going back to school, you should be proud of yourself. The only way we can move forward is by being able to pivot and adapt to the ever changing climate. You got this and i’m rooting for you ❤️
Project management and product management are saturated, now companies have less of this roles and its more competitive to get one, and if u get it, it's also a nightmare to maintain it
@hdhdushsvsyshshshs that is true but now business analyst, data managers and coordinator positions are requiring PM certs.
Man I felt it in my soul when you said your kid loves it that you work from home because they wanna come asking you for stuff. Story of my life lol, but I love it at the end of the day. Home life flows so much better.
Yess! lol, they just love having me around and how can I mad at that 🤣❤️
You’re absolutely right, it’s tough out here. I’ve been unemployed for six months now, and in all that time, I’ve only managed to land one interview. My background is in lab work, but without a bachelor’s degree, I’m finding it nearly impossible to break back into my field, which at minimum requires an associate’s degree. At the same time, I’m overqualified for other roles like grocery stores, Target, and Walmart; I can’t even get interviews there. That said, I’m excited to share that I have an interview today with Amazon. While I’m navigating this challenging job market, I’ve also decided to double down on my education. I plan to complete my computer science degree, which I had to pause due to financial struggles, and then continue on to grad school to pursue my dream of becoming an astrophysicist. In the meantime, I’m seriously considering earning a cybersecurity certificate, it’s a short-term commitment but would open doors and complement my long-term goals. Staying adaptable and focused on the future is the only way forward.
If you worked retail in the past, you should create a resume that’s tailored towards that. And if you have to fluff dates do so. Do what you have to do to make it in society.
@ I tailored every resume for that specific role. I’m telling you it’s hard out here. Having worked at a lab for 7 years was a bit of a detriment. Even though I put on my resume that I have transferable skills, it was not enough. Also, I think it depends on the specific job market you are in too.
So proud of you! Don’t be discouraged and continue elevating and educating yourself. An Astrophysicist is so freaking cool and hello, a black one too!!!!! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 Whatever gap job you can get, go for it and then use whatever benefits they offer to elevate yourself. The certificate sounds like a great first option, and honestly any courses to add skills to a resume can be a nice start. Keep your head up and I look forward to hearing more about your journey here, I AM ROOTING FOR YOU!! ❤️
It’s so hard! Working in a lab is great experience but in this job market, everything is up in the air. It’s not you!
@@Sams-explorations Thanks I just got the job as an Amazon delivery driver! Yes, it’s only a gap job. I’m not giving up. Thanks for rooting for me.
I feel the same the thing!!! This tech got me wanting to pursue accounting or something in finance. But starting salaries are so low.
That’s the thing! ATP, tech gives me the most freedom and halfway decent pay but imagine them saying retail jobs are up as if people are jumping at low pay, inflexible hours and highly varying working conditions..
Thank you for this video. It's encouraging. I hate my current job, but I am realizing it isn't so bad. I want to transition to tech client service. I am a new subscriber.
You're welcome! It's definitely helpful to look at the bigger picture, and maybe it will help you make a game plan. Wishing you the best and I look forward to sharing the journey with you.
@@Sams-explorations thank you. likewise. this will be an awesome journey.
being around so many people for 40+ hours that are outside of our regular circle was incredibly draining for me as well. i completely understand how you feel about remote work. it’s a complete savior to our mental health. wishing you success with completing your degree. and thank you for sharing your experience with this shift in your life. ❤
So glad you can relate! Nobody in my life understood why i’d be so drained just going to work but omg the office can drain the very life force from you. 😭 Thank you for your kind words and support! ❤️
Is your job hiring by any chance?
@@Sams-explorations very thank you
I wonder if anybody is aware of the inlet on the spin side where you can run the water on to the clothes while it’s spinning. At least mine does have this
Yes but i never used it because everytime i’ve tried, it would leak. i’m trying to find a better hose that will actually fit my sink and the inlet.
“Ensure you have at least four solid projects to showcase on your resume, and be prepared to discuss them confidently during interviews. Alongside building projects, dedicate significant effort to mastering data structures and algorithms-they’re key to excelling in technical interviews.”
I love the advice about the projects, those will come in handy for sure. Thank you! ❤️
Start creating projects and building a portfolio as soon as possible while you’re in school. The earlier you start coding and gaining hands-on experience, the faster you’ll land a job in your desired field.”
You’re absolutely right! The more experience the better and i’m right there with you. 🙌🏾
For computer science its focused on back end programming (Java, C++) and for software engineering its focused on front end(javascript html). That's the biggest difference at WGU in languages
That’s interesting because we have to choose a track for backend development in the SWE program in addition to front end specifically C++ or Java, The Comp Sci degree includes more math and theory based classes..
Now I'm wondering if I should drop my cybersecurity classes
If you like it, definitely go for cybersecurity! This is one of the sectors I believe will be in high demand due to the need to protect our technological infrastructures.
Thank you for your insight. I'm starting a cyber security courses at the end of the month. I'm trying to pivot out of working in healthcare. I'm hoping cyber security will be a secure choice.
Loved this! Thank you for sharing your experience. I was laid off 2020 and I ended up taking another job and a pay cut just to get something to get me back in the workforce. I’ve been attempting to transition into a new field, but it has been hard the last four years. I have not given up, but I definitely need to pay increase because I have stayed here too long. This just gave me more motivation to keep going!
You got this, Keep going! ❤️
I feel you on the im not going back in 5 days a week! I learned just like you! Worked in office for years ... learned from covid at home i value flexibility!
I was blind but now i see!! 🤣🙌🏾
Companies are also starting to Pivot toward AI more. In an upcoming interview with Mark Zuckerberg, he stated that soon they will be able to replace even Mid level engineers with AI. Then the other jobs left they will probably give to H1B1 because they can pay them a lot less. Seems the move now is not only learn engineering, but also learn how to use various AI platform, build AI agents etc. Companies will be looking for engineers that can use AI more than just someone that is a software engineer without any AI experience.
Your absolutely right! That’s why i’d like to specialize in machine learning or AI. I want to know how to maintain and control them to a degree if we can’t stop it, I at least want to be on the ethical side of AI use in society.
i attend WGU 8 classes left
Your in the home stretch! Congratulations!
So glad that you Keep going at the lower salary. Trust me it will pay off.
Thank you, I'm going to do my best to keep my head up and keep pushing! 🙏🏾✨
❤ hey I go to wgu also
Hey and congratulations! What major are you pursuing?
@ same to you 🎉 mba healthcare management 2 classes left….as a working mom this mess has kick my butt
That’s amazing that your almost done! I can’t wait till i’m there because yes girl it’s been kicking my butt too! 🤣
@ just keep holding on keep going don’t lose motivation it will pay off. These last few classes have taken me so long to finish but I refuse to 🛑. Next is certification. Do u plan to do the mba also
I feel like the tech industry exploits young people by sucking them in with large salaries, knowing they will let them go as soon as they are able to outsource the jobs for a lower cost or let AI take over.
Yes and I think it’s been even more prevalent over the last years. Now that i see and understand how the industry can be, it’s a lesson learned in budgeting, money management and prioritizing what’s important in your life whatever that is.
Love your channel, you have a sweet spirit. Your skin is pretty
Thank you for the kind words! I appreciate the support ❤️
I've experienced a 50 percent pay cut before. Too bad bills didn't cut themselves in half as well.
Preach! I get the struggle, I also did Shipt and several other gig jobs to get me by while i was laid off. It was tough but it added to my character building and i learned a lesson.
life style creep. live below ur wage and you’ll be fine. thing about Americans is once they get a better paying job they get a more expensive car, place to live and start spending more money this is why people making 100k a year still manage to live paycheck to paycheck a lack of financial literacy and materialism has failed the American people from living the lives they truly want and getting actual fulfillment
I love watching videos like these now! I learn a lot and enjoy seeing regular people sharing their experiences with everyday life, having “regular” jobs, the struggle with the current state of the job market and economy. It’s so true that while a lot of the entertainment and luxury style content is fun and exciting to watch, it’s just not the reality for most. It’s not even reality for the people who flex it! They have ebbs and flows that they just don’t talk about. I’m here for the realness and raw truth ❤
I couldn’t agree more. I can’t even watch some of my favorite content creators because what they show of their lives don’t meet today’s reality for most people like myself. I find myself comparing my life to theirs and we know that’s not good. Plus I’m actually happier when not watching them.
Thank you so much for watching and I agree! It’s important to share the real deal, the good, the bad and everything in between. Thank you so much for your support! ❤️
@180Katherine I Totally agree! Got off instagram 3 years ago and my mental health and self perception have been so much more positive.
Have you ever had an issue with it not draining?
No i haven’t, although sometimes i may need to tip it to make sure all the water at the end is drained.
Thank you for the real picture of what it’s like after layoff. It’s been tough. I am also a career changer from Ed to tech. Was lucky to snag a job at an AI tech startup. Got laid off last year. My dad died from cancer and I had to move back home because my lease was up. 2024 was the worst year of my life. I’m still 8 months unemployed and in therapy. Taking things one day at a time.
I’m sorry to hear you’ve gone through so much, but I’m proud of you for keeping your head up and pushing through! We will all push through!✨
I have retired from my tech career and the one thing you said is you must be flexible and realize that things can and will change. Getting that second income stream is an excellent idea, In my tech career I spent the last 20 years working the night shift. LOVED the shift differential and double time on the holidays. That extra money went to retirement funds, paying off the mortgage. I am sitting here as a woman of color and am telling you it is worth it.
Thank you for sharing your experience, I really appreciate your insights! Your words of encouragement mean a lot and it helps to confirm i’m on the right track. I lead with my spirit either way and pursue my heart. I don’t know what the future of the world looks like but i know i no longer want to sacrifice what’s important to me for time in the office, water cooler convos, micromanagement and time of my life commuting back and forth.
Just started this class at the beginning of this month
Awesome! How’s it going so far?
it’s good, just been trying to put in the hrs to go through the material. as someone starting fairly fresh into tech (did a bit of freecodecamp html, css, javascript), the main challenge really is just retaining all the information. it’s also my first course ever for WGU which i was surprised that my mentor chose but i’m not discouraged (yet lol). love your vids btw! especially the ones when you spoke about your past experiences (career) and perspective
That’s great to hear that your new to tech and also have looked at some online material. I started with freecodecamp and i love their youtube tutorials. Watching them is what made me ultimately decide i wanted to pursue working in tech. And retaining the information will be how you learn and once you find your rhythm, you’ll start getting things much faster. Your mentor wants to hit the ground running and i respect it! 🤣🙌🏾. Thank you for your kind words and encouragement ❤️
@@Sams-explorations oh nice! yeah freecodecamp and other free online material helped me too with my decision to pursue this SWE degree at WGU and yeah, its all about being consistent and finding that rhythm. even when one day finishing the degree and working in the industry, learning new information will be endless just by how much tech constantly evolves. My mentor does! maybe everyone's mentor plans it out in that similar way lol. I appreciate seeing your content and hearing your perspective 🙏
Thank you so much for your support and i look forward to continuing to hear about your journey! We got this! 🙌🏾❤️
I got laid off and also retired at 52 and honestly, I wish I’d done it sooner. The 9-to-5 grind always steals your freedom for a paycheck that barely scratches the surface. My advice? If you’re in your late 30s or early 40s, start saving for FIRE now (Financial Independence, Retire Early.) And if you’re in your 50s, invest smartly and break free from relying on your job. Market trends, like the Trump Effect, have made millions for many, including me. Stay focused, stay consistent, and remember financial freedom is within reach if you make it a priority.
Exactly My point! The 9 to 5 grind is just not worth it the stress and low payoff. What specific steps did you take to break free?
Working with Lorrie Greta Hillard , a financial advisor, was a game changer. She helped me refine my savings strategy, including retirement planning, and provided expert guidance on investments and budgeting to maximize my savings.
Got it! Thanks for the tip! I was curious, so I looked up Lorrie
I have 5 more years and I can’t wait to retire!
It’s amazing to hear about your experience! I came across Fire and people who had pursued that and it was inspiring. I’m hopeful that one day i can get there.
Love the ambition and drive. New subscriber!
Thank you for subscribing and I appreciate your support!
Change your shower head to one with a hose that can reach the washer.
Yea that would be a great start and would make things easier lol
I didn’t know if anyone told you this before but you sound just like Nia long ❤ your voice sounds so calm and peaceful
Ive heard that before and I love Nia long, Thank you for the compliment! ❤️
Now that you mention it....
Rooting for you! You can accomplish your goals and you will ❤🙏🏾
Thank you for the support and encouragement! ❤️🙏🏾
Your positive attitude makes you seem so much younger IN A GOOD WAY. I was shocked when you said you in your mid 30s. With an attitude like that, there's nothing you can't do.
Thank you so much for your kind words and encouragement! ❤️ I have hope for some type of future and whether it’s long or short i’m going to make the best of it
We have similar stories. I’m also 36. These tech layoffs are not easy. I was let go back in November. (Still looking) I was making a big salary as well (80k) I have been in tech for a while. I have been Working remote since 2017. I refuse to get on the phones and go in the office.I have experienced 2 layoff in my career. Now trying to pivot. Still in tech but either cybersecurity or QA. Your severance pay was good. I got 2 weeks and I had to send my equipment back 😅
I'm sorry to hear you went through the same thing! It's definitely a lot to deal with but i’m glad to hear that you know exactly what your looking for in your next role. 2025 means we say no to anything that doesn’t serve us even a job. Haha, I was surprised they let us keep anything! It was a nice parting gift and it was a perfect reason to start youtube and i now use it for editing. Cybersecurity is a great concentration and the use cases keep increasing with how intertwined tech is in our daily lives.
Thank you for sharing🙏 So many great points!
Your welcome! Glad they were helpful
