4a084 milsurp engine and Hummel Ultracruiser mockup
มุมมอง 8155 ปีที่แล้ว
I made a foamboard mockup of the engine bay area of the ultracruiser for sizing of components for the 4a084 engine i would love to use. Some corrections to my comments on the video: The bolt for the crankshaft is screwed out to where i am guessing the crank flange will be. I am buying a flange from a guy who used to make them so i dont have to make one myself. The oil pan is 3.5” down from cran...

    I covered my tail feathers and i ended up with sharp edges here an there. The gussets an ribs sharp edges mainly. I had to recover 4 pieces. I added a 1/4 x 3/4 strip of spruce on the bottom rib on the vertical stabilizer, screws an epoxy. It made a big difference when covering. I also added a horizontal aluminum tube in the middle of the rudder. I could not get the center hing pin in. Looks good! Careful drilling the round tubing it's easy to get off center.

    Kit plane, $10,000, buy vw engine, assemble and go fly. Pop had a s1 back on the 80s white and green striped and it was clocked at 200mph .Sonex should bring back this bird and watch new pilots buy em up.

    I found the Hummel hubs and the Carlisle Turf Glide tires, but what wheels are those? They look larger than the Hummel wheels and they have a different hole pattern: The Hummel wheels have only three holes each but yours has six: three to mount the hub to the wheel and I would assume the other three are to mount the two halves of the wheels together.

    • @flyguyeddy
      @flyguyeddy ปีที่แล้ว

      The wheels are from bmi karts and the inner wheel offset is less than the outer one, i dont recall the size

    • @seangfoster1974
      @seangfoster1974 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@flyguyeddy - The only ones on BMI Karts that look similar are the Van-K rims. They are 6" and with a width of 4" I believe (I used the part number listed to look up the size on the Van-K website). Does this sound about right? I guess what I really need to know is the bolt pattern (my guess is 3 x 2.50") and the width of the rims (3.25", 3.5" or 4").

    Hi, Looking good! I fly an Ultra Cruiser with a Hirth F23 (50HP) engine. The engine weighs about 78 pounds. I'm not familiar with your engine. Could you give some specs for it and why you're using it in the Ultra Cruiser? Thanks!

    • @flyguyeddy
      @flyguyeddy 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The engine is an 84ci 4 cylinder engine from a military generator. It should make 42hp and be smooth and reliable. Has a nice sound too. It wont be 103 legal tho

      @@flyguyeddy I would like to see a 4a084 in a Hummelbird. Have you moved forward with this project? Seems like this engine would be a great candidate for a turbo as the compression ratio is very low (some specs say 6.8 CR) . Though in the Hummelbird there may not be enough room for all of the plumbing it would need for a turbo. One gentlemen Les Smoot has placed an SDS brand ECM on his 4a084 to have EFI, which he advises he is obtaining very good horsepower/performance out of the engine and is running a 58" 30 pitch prop. I plugged that prop with his claimed 3450 rpm's into a static thrust calculator equation and came up with some very high numbers for the 4a084 or 367 lbs of static thrust. I wonder what that would be like in a hummelbird (if you had the ground clearance for a 58" prop)? th-cam.com/video/EPLlVvehZ90/w-d-xo.html

    @flyguyeddy It lathe is over than 40 maybe 50 years old, so what lathe in this age is keep accuracy in 0,01mm (0,0004 inch) in long distances? If it makes tapers quite (not over 0,1mm (0.004inch)- it is normal for 40 years old Soviet lathe.

    Check the back of the cam gear to make sure there is no debris stuck to it, the ecu decides when to pulse injectors based on what info the cam sensor picks up from that gear.
