With the winter weather jumping into gear today we thought we should share a re-recording of one of our favorite Why Do We Call It That? episodes. Also, our videographer is getting a little creative with the AI programs out there and this gave him a chance to include his take on the episodes...........we may need to have a discussion about that. Enjoy "Why Do We Call It Fiddlers Green?"!

Love it! Will be new to Wisconsin this spring so appreciate the heads up!
Thanks Marty for highlighting this event, Frank's Hill and our history.
We appreciate you taking the time to watch.
Cool
Good stuff!
Those were the great times!
How about an episode on Sextonville? My hometown. Born 1955. Back in the day it had several small general stores and a post office that was also a general store. I even have distant memories of the school across from the post office, though I never attended it. Many happy memories of flying my Sears bike up and down the streets, such as they were (and still are I suppose), often with a fishing rod across the handlebars. The junction of Willow Creek and the Pine River near Twin Bluffs -- which we all simply referred to as 'The mouth' -- was a fishing hotspot. Probably still is.
We did an episode on Sextonville a few years back but it is due for updating. Stay tuned.
if you blink uou`ll miss driving through boaz, lol
I lived in the Park Hotel in 1977. It was pretty run down at the time, but the rent was cheap! I also spent a little time in the old court house building. The jail portion!
If any community members have photos of Neptune before the 1980's - I would love to see them. My family was probably one of the last ones to live in Neptune, which we did from 1979 to 1996.
I came from the McGrew's out of Pa, then Ohio. They were mainly Quakers early on. I am in Texas and have been researching my McGrew ancestors. We had McGrew's who owned mills, were lawmen, bankers, politicians, and even a few outlaws. I am of the McGrew line descended from Robert McGrew who came from Ireland in about 1726 with his wife and 5 sons, they settled in SE Pennsylvania for awhile before making their way west slowly to Ohio where as generations of McGrew's got larger, they are today all over the country and beyond. Robert's son Finley McGrew is buried in Pa on what was his farm. After a few generations this family of McGrew's ended up here in Southeast Texas, just off the Gulf Coast, in Beaumont. I absolutely love finding little tidbits like this to add to the McGrew family legacy of stories and trying to tie them back to which McGrew they may have descended. Thanks so much for adding another tidbit to my family's pool of history. You are much appreciated in this household.
Thank you for the kind words. We very much enjoy researching the founders of our area and the side stories about those important people.
Cute
Interesting history
"Promosm"
Yeah, you're not watching to talk about it really has my interest piqued. What happened in Willow?
The first rule about the “incident”, don’t talk about the incident.
They're not really uplands, the valleys are just carved low. I'm higher in elevation in western Marathon county with gently rolling countryside.
My mother’s family!
Love these! Keep up the good work!!!
Thank you! Will do!
What happened to willow?
Three is the charm kinda story.
Fella had Richland County-kind of resilience.
Go Marty 🎉 good work
🤙
My great grandparents had a dairy farm in Yuba. My grandparents always talked how during harvest time all the farmers would help each other for a specific time period on each specific farm. The resident family was responsible for feeding everyone that came to help . They said all the women would try to outdo each other with the quality of their ‘spread’. Apparently my great- grandmother Novy was an excellent cook. (I was only on the farm a couple of times while very young; we lived in IL)
Koch, Kalish, Montgomery, and Johnson… 😂
Perfect, i love this, this help me with my english
I would like this in colombia too
if you find an old enough map of Wisconsin it will have the Ocooch Mtns. labeled!
please keep making these!!! i see all these locations when I am out trout fishing and have so many questions. these videos are awesome
Thank you for the kind words, as time allows we will keep making them!
Thank You For Sharing ❤️
It's called the driftless region because no glacial debris, (drift), was deposited here during the last ice age. There, I said in one sentence what it took you 6 minutes to stumble through. Tighten it up, dude.
We are sorry someone forced you to take time out of your busy life to watch the whole video.
@@richlandcentertourism1222 Grow up, you baby.
Is there any way to find out where our house was moved from in Richland city? Was told it was moved out of Richland city into Gotham.
Thank you for asking, there are two resources we suggest to learn more about this. The Richland County History room in the upstairs of the Brewer Library is an excellent place to check out their resources. They have many options and are the best repository of archives around. Also, James Schneider is the local historian who seems to have the best individual knowledge of Richland City and is a Gotham resident. We suggest you check with him for more info.
Awesome love the vid can’t wait for the next one any suggestions for my channel🎣
Can you say Peyote.
Great video guys!
I heard mention of Miner Hill, where are the 15 acres that were donated to the city by G. L. Miner in honor of his father (James H. Miner) which originally was called "town Bluff" and then named named "Miner Park"?
Well, there is this? th-cam.com/video/M0oV52mRqhc/w-d-xo.html
Richland City
p.s. Seems I read a great article on that several years ago. I believe it was called Tragedy on the River, or something similar.
@@Jaymz007 Check out our playlist “Why Do We Call It That?” here on our TH-cam channel. We covered that last summer!
Very good description Thanksgiving Marty thank you
Thank you Rodney, I hope it was a great Thanksgiving for you!
Nice way to do the video Marty only it would look better if you had one of them curved pipes that was smoking now that would be a great impression and expression
Good story. I wondered about this.
Thanks for the info
Kevin Campbell we aim to educate!
Amazing and interesting. Thanks.
Excellent place to get a meal always good food and great service the owners are fantastic people
We agree!
Black Cat was Club 58 when my family bought it. We changed the name to The Black Cat. After it burned, we built The Blaqck Cat II just outside of Richland Center. My step father, Paul Crary partnered with a man name Stadele (sp), and atter a time sold his shares, and the restaurant was renamed Stadele's.
I am so old I remember going to the Black Cat for my parents wedding anniversary celebration back in the day.
Interesting!
There is nothing simple about Frank Lloyd Wright's career or life.
So in the mid-80's the video production division of Kaultronices which included Joe Koelsch, Perry Halverson, Pat (don't remember her last name and Dorothy Thompson and myself started the "Talk of the Town" video program. It was then a daily broadcast consisting of around the town interviews, feature stories, and local commercials. In order to broadcast it, I was given the delightful task of going up this hill on a daily basis to insert the video master of the show into the VCR that was located in a little shed on top of the hill. Not a difficult feat when you could drive up the hill but in the winter I sometimes had to hike it on foot. Great memories. I think Ben Koelsch still does the show and has carried it on all these years. There are a few surviving tapes of that first season, but as they were very expensive they did get copied over a lot.
Been eating at his place in Superior WI for years and I still love his food.
World's BEST Gyros!! 10+.... Made by "the 1 and only" Kosta! :)
Good idea for promoting the area - best of luck everyone.
Thank you Roy. If you were in town, you would have been my first choice for production. Fortunately, Ben at Nova Video has been excellent!
@@richlandcentertourism1222 Thanks for the thought. Bens got a lot of experience. Maybe we can collaborate on a segment this summer.
Great job as always, Marty Richards and crew!
Thank you Wade, with music by Jake'O, Mark McCauley and Demi Vetesnik's good tastes, an excellent business partner, and Ben Koelsch's great editing production, it is easy to look good!
Marty, This was great! Very cool and fun to watch! Cheers, Nick
Thank you for your kind words Nick. Anytime food is involved you can be assured I have expert commentary.
ok, im going! Thank you marty and Mark! never been there, WOW what a great idea, keep up the work!!!
There are some underappreciated gems for food in the Greater Richland Center Area. With this series of videos we hope to showcase those and help everyone understand where they are and what to expect when they get there.
Turbo's is awesome and I have ate their Hash Burger in one sitting,it's huge but I was hungry that day,lol :)
But did you take a 2 hour nap immediately afterward? Marty hid for about 2 hours following, not sure where he went but a nap is suspect.
