Kumite #1

This Kumite has four parts as described in the video. Important note is that the vast majority of Kumite in Okinawan Karate Systems prioritize an initial or counter strike within a second following a block, redirect, a side step of oncoming movement from the opponent. Not all Kumite incorporate a takedown, but most do. If a takedown is done then 'Finishing Off' opponent is mandatory in these Ok...

I know you are teaching a beginner but if you are going to teach him, then do it right. You know that middle block wont work. A straight line punch against a circular block will always win.
Thank you, however you are incorrect. With 44 years of experience, 3 black belts, and my work experience, I know it works....used it in my days of owning a night club bouncer service in South Florida.
Yeah, keep your groin exposed
Train your brain the leave your arms out, and down by your side all the time.
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu sucks.
@@Christopher-iv9yy Thabk you for commenting .
Kalaripayattu is from Kerala India, this is the mother of all martial arts. Kravmaga which is rapid adaptation of natural reactions and movements to inflict damage on attacker is another martial arts originated from war
Litchenfeld, the man who created Krav Maga was originally from Slovakia if I recall. He was originally a wrestler, then turned boxer. Later he moved to the area of Palestine. After the nation of Isreal was formed he became the Physical Fitness and Self Defense Instructor for the IDF. The Self Defense he taught was his own system he put together from his experiences and pulling from other arts throughout his tenure with the IDF. In a way it grew from his need to teach and improve what he was teaching. But it don't grow from the Jewish experience, which is how Filipino Martial Arts grew from the Philippines or how Okinawan Karate grew from the people in the RyuKyu Islands and using the Kung Fu they imported and modified and used for regional self defense. Thank you for your reply and watching. Much appreciated.
No it's mother of all martial arts boxing is
why do you look away from your opponents eyes to telegraph where you are going to block?
@FuKuntt I am not looking away from his eyes, and I am not looking at his eyes, my vision centered on his solar plexus area. This allows to see everything from him . Thank you
Respectfully, How do you address the possibility of uke's left hand hitting you with a cross?
Go back to Part 1...the blocking hand does an immediate Shuto to the Neck/Trachea, immobilizing the opponent.
osoto gari needs work but i love the entry.
@Wagyu_Jubei bear in mind 1 day before 32 Sets of Legs then a 2 Mile Run under 17 minutes, on this day Back and Biceps 30 Sets 3 Mile Run in under 29 Minutes. It is 90 degrees Outside when we workout.....Less than 5% of men under the age of 30 can manage that,........I am 60.
Imagine using a mantra to promote your crap online 😂
@Wagyu_Jubei Thank you. Giving others an Awesome Opportunity to learn....not promoting. I am in Sarasota FL if you want test the 60 Year Old Crap.
@@ayersacademy I respect that. If I’m ever there , I will. I’ll bring sake also.
What about the pecker plank stand?
In the marine corps, we had to do that as a punishment. It sucked. Especially when someone got caught slacking during the punishment 😫 This brought back memories
I bet you finish off lots of guys
Nice one
Reminds of my youth in Uechi Ryu. Body/arm/leg pounding was done every class.
Here I thought I was the only guy on youtube that punched with the thumb in that position. Nice to see someone else using it too, nice drills!
I will be adding these to my mma regimen thanks!
You are welcome.
No kime. No hip power. 😂
Your knife defense is comically bad. 😂
This guy is a clown 😂😂😂
UFC Stats....numbers don't lie....head butts, groin strikes are allowed in BJJ yes? How quickly would that change tactics and strategy? Have to keep it real.
@@ayersacademy pure karate guys would get smoked. You definitely would. 😂 this clown shit for clicks isn’t going to sell your bloated ego piece of a book. Your sparring footage and knife defense is a joke. Jujutsu, not Okinawan Te, is where the takedowns from Judo came from , which in turn are the takedowns used in BJJ. Typically crusty old karateka trying to stay relevant.
@Wagyu_Jubei show us who you are....quit hiding like a little girl. Be a man...who are you and where are from? What BJJ school do you train at? C'mon Man....
Interesting observations. Sounds like a great but frustrating experience JR!
@@ddlmnky6mn thank you
Your videos and reflections of the tournament were really good and educational. And you did really well considering you made the decision 3 months ago to participate. Great.
@johndixon9847 Thank You very much! I appreciate your feedback.
JR, Thank you so much for sharing this accomplishment (2nd place is good). I am not surprised of the immaturity of the younger participants disrespect for the sport forum. We need more seasoned mature martial art instructors like you to pass the torch to the next generation. Get the book "Moving Forward", it is a great read for sure.
@tonyparrish2801 Thank You Tony!

Lousy
Nah bro got that black belt and 10 degrees in 1 day😭😭
This must be MacDojo crap.
@@cigarnationwarriors to a certain degree it is. You are correct.

Good to see you're STILL going strong 💪
This is good stuff, i have almost finished your book!
Keep it up, brother!
Thank You 😊
Much respect brother...keep on keeping on.
Thank You. Doing for the Old Guys!
Is it a problem in karate if kicks are too telegraphed? Must they be shorter and faster?
Yes, you are correct. Ty.
It doesn't matter bc karate is fake
@Farrrout show what you can do. I am 59.....and will always be able to out run you, out swim you, and can kick your ass 8 days a week. 💯
Nice work brings back memories.
It's funny how he described her as a victim.
....anyone struggling to survive in the water is called a "victim". Lifeguard and Beach Lifeguard terminology. Thanks for viewing! I appreciate it 🙏.
Not a patient , or is that after they’re out of the water. Would they be considered a “survivor” if the drowning has/had been prevented? Army Medic asking
Hi Old School Karate Guy, I’m also training for a first regional karate competition (UK) mid age and was out of shape and not done karate that long. Your videos provide good motivation to step up my training. Great
Hey, good for you.....and for both of us for staying at it! How is your training going? I am curious.
Hi, thanks for interest. Gradually working out a weekly schedule of minimum sets consisting of kicking drills, basics like press ups, sit ups and then small amount of cardio mostly running building up distance at very slow pace. Graduallly increasing intensity and easing off schedule if needed or other life demands it. Will probably have to include shadow boxing in next few weeks to simulate fighting.
@@johndixon9847 keep it up and chime in here to touch base ever so often. thanks, JR.
👍
Keep it up!!
You go for it sir!!!! I watch your training and am inspired! People say “you’re too old for that” too damned much. Rooting for you!
Thank you very much! Stay tuned for the competition! Old guys rule!
Still training hard still staying focused excellent my brotha.. BUSHIDO🥋
Thank you
This is good stuff!
amazing
Thank you.
You are very tough for a 59 year old. I’m 49 and already got a couple of trigger fingers! I don’t suppose you have them too?😊
Hey hope you are well. I do have pre symptoms of arthritis from time to time. I think keeping up w the old School Karate training helps it. I do have aches that are not predictable. Getting older is a journey in and of itself.
I understand the injuries. It causes me to have to change form on some thing. Have two tendinopathy's but we keep moving anyway
Yes we do. The worst thing would be to stop.
You're 59 and your advice is to put women first...that is absolutely the worst advice Ive ever heard..but good look in your return to competing
Thank you. Sorry for any confusion, I don't put women first....I put mine first above everything else....it works for me.
@@ayersacademy just don't put any of the women that have been part of my life, first..or you will be very disappointed 🤣🤣
@@ayersacademy and I am your biggest fan! So proud of your goals!
I don't have cool machine like that but I think I will try those kick back with my bands
Yes, improvise and do what you can! It all adds up at the end.
very nice
That's impressive and encouraging to see at your age. I'll be 56 April 15th and I've been debating for the last 3 months on getting back into the martial arts my problem has always been commitment, like you said commit to something and see it through. I wish you all the best on your journey, STAY STRONG💪🥋
You should....it helps in all aspects of Life. Your Martial Arts is Yours, no one can take it from You. Always here to chat....
. So true Thank You so much
Good effort, what karate belt do you have?
Thank you! Black in 3 different Disciplines.
Thanks for the video! You’re very inspirational. 👍🏻
Thank you. Much appreciated 🙏 Subscribe and share. Being older doesn't mean we are out!
I'm 39 and I'm always thinking about getting licensed to show my boys their dad fighting but there is that voice in my head its crazy and my time passed. Watching you train is going to make me apply
You should! Our kids learn by watching our behavior. They will see their father "Moving Forward " in life.
Your an inspiration I"m gonna follow, thanks for this
Thank you very much.
