I created this channel to post the things in life that I take a personal interest in. My interest focus mainly on transportation with a focus on Pure American classic autombiles, and I"m sure I am in good company. Public and private transportation is a very popular topic and I hope that maybe I can get a few more guys and gals interested! Hope you enjoy.

You must have the mike under the hood😮
@@DennisShook-k7w nah. It was so windy that day. Miserable 🤨
As promised here i am!! So let me comment on this beautiful 1985 Chrysler Fifth Ave. For one it's white exterior which is probably the 1st or second most popular color. Love that or hate it, it's up to you. I do love the blue Kimberly cloth interior. Velour is so much more rich looking to me than leather - but that's just my personal taste. The radio - 1985 was the first year for the optional "Ultimate Sound system which this car was ordered with from the factory. This radio was a collaboration between Chrysler electronics and Mitsubishi motors. It was the nicest most expensive radio you could get before Chrysler introduced the Infinity Sounds systems with Harmon Kardon back in 1986 or 1987?( I think 1987). Don't quote me on this but i'm 95% sure that the luggage rack on these cars were DEALER installed NOT factory units. I have the original books from 1985 and a luggage rack was not offered in the official sales literature or ordering information. Personally i love luggage racks on some cars, this is not one of them. Either way, it came with the car so it stays. The wire wheel covers with the vogue tires are just stunning. The gold stripe that circumvents the white wall really makes it pop. The moonroof was optional equipment, not standard, and was a very very expensive item back in 1985. It was probably a $1,700 option which was insanely expensive for it's time. As far as mileage goes, 95,000 miles is nothing on this car since it was kept in such good condition over the years. The Chrysler M-bodied cars were introduced in 1977 and ran through 1989. They started as the Lebaron, then moved to the New Yorker name and then into the Fifth Avenue moniker. I personally like the 1982-1985 cars the best since they had the most chrome and detailed touches of them all. After 1985, Lee Iaccoca started to decontent the cars, taking more and more of what made them distinctive away because he knew they were going to be discontinued soon afterwards. I also hate the third brake light on cars and 1985 was the last year that they were not installed. All in all, just a great car survivor car.
I really appreciate your knowledge of these cars. You are definitely a wealth of information. A few points that stood out in my mind. I know Chrysler did some kind of weird stuff back then and even confuses people yet today. When I was looking for the 5th Avenue to buy, People advertised a 5th Avenue but when I opened up the ad, it was the New Yorker, K car basically. I"m sure it confused lots of people. Ah! the Radio! I love it. 40 years later, for the MOST part it sounds wonderful and mostly still works. Being it was the dawn of Solid State, some of the LED segments are out, well, kind of come in and out. The joystick still works fine, I sprayed it with the Electronic cleaner, the one that comes in a can. And cleared up the fuzziness when I moved it. I love the equalizer. Total throwback. Lots of my friends had aftermarket EQs installed. The multi, multi , multi channel EQs were kind of costly, and had so many channels, I'd spend like forever trying to bring up and tone down sounds. This one here in both my chryslers have the perfect amount of channels. Now, my 87 Fury, that must have been ordered new with either just an AM/FM or something basic, being it now has an aftermarket Pioneer, blue tooth enabled. Do I like the looks? Nope. But I have more options with it. Again, my appologies on your last response, I hit respond and I'm not sure where it went. Who knows? Ya might get a whole bunch of responses at the same time. : ) I'm willing to bet the original 5TH avenue owners didn't have to worry about the Electronic communication.
Nice to see this car in a color other than the typical white, black, blue and red. This triple gold is really awesome and honestly i prefer the Kimberly cloth interior over the Corithian leather. The cloth is more durable and looks just as luxurious at the leather since it has the pillow top design as well. Beautiful beautiful car.
I really appreciate your kind words. In 1986 my friend bought one brand spanking new. For lack of a better word, I was "Star Struck" Life moved on, I forgot about his car, until one day. I send my wife on a mission. It had to be triple gold with the Kimberly cloth. No deviations. It took her months. There aren't a whole lot of them out there. The ones she found were running but painfully ugly and bad shape. They had already been used up, or had north of 200,000 miles. ( tough ass car!) This is the car she found. It gets tons of attention at car shows being im the only one there with one, and it's a car us regular folk can relate to. She just brings ua back to better times. Happy new year my friend!
@@styldsteel1 Your wife did you right for sure. The car is a stunner. You have great taste to want a triple gold with the cloth. I can imagine they didn't make many in that color combination and interior. I would be proud to own and drive that car around. Nice to hear that you take it to shows too. Thank you for posting this video and for telling me the backstory on how you found it. The story is almost as good as the car itself. Happy New Year.
@klwthe3rd thank you very very much! I have to bring to light the fact that these were the days where you can sit down with a salesman and check off whatever option you would like. I'm surprised more folks didn't check off "Gold Dust Metalic " If I'm not reaching too far here, swing by my channel. I have another 5th avenue. She's sporting her Sarejevo white clothing with dark blue Kimberly cloth pillow top seating. Another stunner. Not that I'm tooting my own horn 😉
@@styldsteel1 NO problem. I'll check out your channel for sure. I always love to support those who love these cars. You are correct that you could custom order your cars even up to the last 1990's. My family always did that so we got exactly what we wanted and nothing we didn't. But alot of these Fifth Avenues were ordered by dealers for lot inventory. And Chrysler Corp always pushed the dealers to order the most POPULAR colors to promote higher sales. Gold wasn't deemed a hugely popular or high volume seller so unless you were a customer who did go into the dealership to customer order a car, you probably wouldn't have seen that car on their lots. Most were ordered with the Corithian leather, wire wheels, luxury package in black, blue(light or dark), white, red and silver. If you check out all the ones on TH-cam, you'll see those same colors. Your Gold car stands out soo much more because it is different. I love it over those other colors for sure. To be honest, i can't say over the course of 50 years on this earth, i've seen more than a handful of Gold Dust Metallic exterior cars like yours. It's really super rare! Really rare. I would probably say that only 5 to 8 % of them were manufacturered in that beautiful Gold Dust metallic paint. And how many are left today still on the road??? You have one very special car my friend.
You are definitely a wealth of information and definitely much appreciated. And for sure, on TH-cam id see more Corinthian leather over the cloth. I always enjoyed watching Ricardo Montebon's comment on Chryslers Corinthian leather. "It's all marketing" lol!

@@Stakeouttoo oh it definitely does. ( live on)was a CD signing Ladd did, and just out of the blue, they just broke out into a song. I saw Ladd years later and played it for him. He was so happy! He said wow! I forgot I did that.
Not a department car. They didn’t buy gran furies in 87
I can only go by what the retired detective said from who I bought it from. You are basically correct. The NYPD purchased the Diplomats. How this ended up as an undercover is a mystery And will remain a mystery. For what I paid for it, for all the joy and happiness it brings to kids especially at car shows and car meets? To me, it's not worth the research. If I ever become incapacitated and need to generate cash, I'll just advise the next owner to do his own research. For now, there is no price on this Fury.
@@styldsteel1 I love how the car is preserved and still loved! I didn’t want to come off in any type of way. I have my fleet of vintage police cars and have done significant research into NYPD vehicles during the blue and white era. Aside from the year this car has a few other things that make me say it’s not a department auto. Your car has sentina push bars. The NYPD used locally sourced bumperettes from a taxi meter shop called KGT, highway cars got locally made pushbars that were made from loading dock bumpers. spotlights were only used on highway cars. I wish you many more happy years with this car!

Has it got much smog emission crap on it or is snarling now? Love the 318 , great motor
@@muckle8 thank Goodness for small miracles! No smog. I can see where the equipment was removed, hoses capped, and so on. A side, minor note, after 25 years in NY, cars are only required for a safety annual inspection. Lights, signals, all that kind of stuff, no tailpipe sniffers. All 3 of my M bodies have this same drivetrain. Let me tell you. Like you say, it's god-damned bullet proof.i enjoy them thoroughly.!!

Worst test drive ever. What's all that Squeaking and squalling about? Luxury cars are supposed to be smooth and quiet. 😮
Calm down!
Two-tone, another cosmetic treasure lost in time! I mean, some car brands such as Fiat still delivers it for their 500s, but you can't beat the original concept! Love the bronze(?) rims, by the way 😮
Well, I'm happy to see someone's still producing autos with colors! Relief there for sure. Yes, this here is Coppertone mist/Black. Love the matching interior. This is still deep in the days where there were no government mandates to be found. The engineers were giving the freedom to "fire at will" That's how these products came to be. Thank you for everything!
@@styldsteel1 that's a positive for sure, but not only after they sell it as 'exclusive design' for a whole lot of money extra. Back then two-tone came with the full price, from what I'm aware of. Coppertone mist looks awesome, tried to find similar car cosmetics but all I ended up with was sun tanning screen lol! Definitely will keep that in mind for future projects. No problem, I'm glad to discuss the passion among enthusiasts! Even though I have no classic myself, beside a 'youngtimer' (1998 Nissan Sunny Wagon; Y10 - which was the 'Sunny Traveller' in the American market)
When cars were literally a piece of art, and most importantly had a SOUL! Today's car lack that total feeling, or are trying too hard. Classics come in natural form, from the day they rolled off the line to the last day the oil pumped within... Thanks for letting us take a peek at this top tier class, still rocking to this day 💪 😁
Lol! You're awesome. As with all the true blue car guys.
@@styldsteel1 haha true, thanks for the compliment much appreciated! I subbed to your channel for you're anwesome guy yourself! Keep up the good work!
@@DutchFunkenstein very very much appreciated. Yes, I got the notification. I try to keep the vids short and to the point.
Clean, glossy gold has always worked so well on classics! Same with metallic silver.
So so true. And back in those days, say, the 1980s and earlier, I didn't mind silver so much. Because the design engineers knew how to mix colors. Look, silver is not a color by any stretch. But the cars had door mouldings and pinstripe to match the interiors. You'd have for example a silver car with a red or blue interior, matching pinstripe, and outside mouldings. So attractive. Now? Eternally boring. Silver with black interiors. No imagination whatsoever. Thanks for watching! Did you see my White 5th avenue? The interior is the richest, deepest cobalt blue velour.
@styldsteel1 I get what you're saying, today 'silver' (or graphite, grey etc) makes the car looks like the manufacturer forgot to add a coating to the primer. Boring and tedious, unlike the vibrant coloring back then. Besides that will chrome (pinstripe) top off the class itself, just what you were referring to. Chrome grille as well. I'll definitely look into the Fifth Avenue on your channel, you've got quite a collection and from what I can tell (and most of all SEE) they're in good hands! Keep up the preservation work! 👍 Don't let EVs kill the classics
@@DutchFunkenstein your a good man. I really appreciate that. And I do try like heck to preserve each and every one of them. I think I'm succeeding. I believe EVs won't be successful. FoMoCo has a shit ton of F150 Lightenings they can't unload. I feel hybrids might take this cake. The classics are in my blood. My dailys are a 15, and a 17 MKZ. In my garage rests a 1949 Hudson Commodore, and a 1975 Checker Marathon. That's where my soul lays.
@@styldsteel1 Thanks, but I'm only selective good haha. I always give credit where credit is due, and credit is definitely due here! Thanks for your kind words man, hard to find these days. I noticed that as well. The only reason Tesla for example is succesful is only because of the innovation it brings (such as autonomous driving), not just the EV part. Please no baby moons or fender shirts. This car is beautiful as it sits, all stock.
Thank you! I should have mentioned the wheel skirts are in the trunk, and actually are in fact stock. I believe after the restoration, they weren't put back because they are cumbersome and unwieldy, still a gentle teardrop shape. And the baby moons? It's just a hubcap 😉. I'll make a deal, I'll put them on, if I get negative opinions, off they come.
Beautiful car. Studebaker was an innovation car company that was rooted in successfully producing wagons until the earlier part of the 20th Century until the company decided that wagons were on their way out and transitioned to making cars. It was hard for Studebaker to compete with larger automakers for sales and lacked the operating capital the company needed. The company moved from their longtime home in Indiana to Canada for a short run but by the mid 1960's the company closed its doors forever. Some notable cars from Studebaker were the successful Lark compact car series, the Hawk series especially the stunning top of the series, the Golden Hawk and stunning Avanti sports car that continued in production by other companies long after Studebaker closed. Studebaker is still loved by car enthusiasts for their innovation and charm. Years ago when I was still a kid I remember my family owned at least two Studebaker Champions from the early 1950's.
Yes, their history is very very rich. I understand that even after the company stopped cars, I understand they built airplane engines. So they have a most incredible legacy. I'm really honored to preserve a small part of the Studebaker Brother's memories.
The Kojak light is not period correct.
Thank you for your input! I cannot say for certain what has been added or taken away in its 37 years. Perhaps the detective, when he retired and took the old girl to Florida added it then. From another perspective, whether you are right or wrong, the car is fun as all get out, the kids just adore it at car shows, older retired cops, share their stories when they were in the beat. I don't use it for competition, I'll take it to a car show, maybe a drive in movie here upstate NY. Hey...no harm, no foul. Thanks for watching!
@@styldsteel1 no worries, great car. That wasn't a critique, just an observation
Absolutely. And I appreciate your observations just the same. Even just now with your input, I've just learned something new!
What a pretty, and today, very unusual car. If you need some cleanup underneath, consider getting it glass-beaded or baking soda blasted, and refinishing it with something like Master Series XT anti-corrosion paint. It's aluminum suspended in urethane, and from what I've seen, very, very tough stuff. Coat with flat and semi-gloss black after as appropriate. One thing a couple of people I've known over the years have said to me is Studebakers, for whatever reason, rust badly, even compared to comparable-vintage cars, so buying yourself as much defense as possible makes sense.
It's funny you mentioned it's an unusual style. That's what attracted me to the styling in the first place. I said to my wife, if she thinks this car was designed by a committee🤣🤣. I really do appreciate the advice on the rust issues. Oddly enough, only one frame rail is somewhat compromised, but still solid thankfully. But now it's stored in a climate controlled garage, so whatever process is taking place if it stopped, at least slowed. But Im still going to look into these products you recommend. I thank you again!! You might want to check out my 49 Hudson. It's a Commodor straight 8! Thanks for watching!

What a neat car. I had a 77 302 4 spd. I had a 4 barrel holley with headers too. The power windows rather rare0
Very cool. Love it. Regarding the power Windows, it might have been an option in general, but I'm not sure about the Ghia optioned Granada and Monarchs.
I had a red 78 2 door with a 302 and keystone klassics, wish I had it now
Well, I know we all have to make choices based on whats going on in our lives at the time. I'm happy it brought back memories for you. I admittedly had too lookup keystone classics. What a sharp wheel! On the Granadas with the sports package, it came with the magnum 500s. So it's very similar. Really sharp! ThBks for sharing and watching!
I had a Granada in 79. It drove like a very expensive luxury car. Loved it.
79 sure! Different header panel and sleaker taillights. Mostly unchanged from mine. Yes I feel Ford did a great job with what was an intermediate size car. Lots of Rubber bushings, sound insulation. And with the Lincoln Versailles, even way,way more rubber and thicker seats were added. It really was like sitting in a cocoon
Gosh I remember these as regular cars. When I was in grade school we had neighbors who had the President version. A man where I worked had the Packard version. My mother almost bought a 66 but chose a Rambler instead.
Oh yes, sure, the President had the most body side adornments. This here is the Mid level, Champion. It's really good to know, Studebaker has a large following. Interestingly enough, Studebaker has an extremely colorful and extensively long history. Even though they ceased automotive production, pivoted to building army tanks. I read some where that the designers of the 1993 Dodge Ram that the Studebaker E series pick up was the main inspiration for their design. This is extraordinary.
Looks a lot like my '76. I had a 4 door with a 302. Great car but it ate ignition modules. I kept a new one in the trunk. That car was amazingly easy to work on.
Yep! 75, 76, and 77. No real appearance change for 1st generation Granada. My first Granada was a '77 4 Door, deep blue, blue vinyl interior. 302 car. . Oh God! Yes, very early Solid State technology. I kept one in my trunk too. Hell, I think we all did. In fact, this one here, the engine actually just stopped on the freeway. I freaked out at first but then I realized! Oh yea. Electronic ignition module They'd overheat. That was the problem. Pouring cold water over it would get you going temporarily. Since this car here is a California car, I learned that it needed a different module, and you can't just plug any old module in. The plugs are oddly shaped. So yes, there is a special California ignition. Lol. But she runs just fine now
@@styldsteel1 I owned a couple and they were all California cars. I didn't know the modules were California specific. I can honestly say my 302 never overheated. I did have an engine fire once because Ford mounted the coil on it's side. I guess it failed and leaked. I ended up needing to do a bit of rewiring and a new set of plug wires. Parts were cheap and easy to get in the late 90s early 2000s.
you can see a hint of packard
Oh definitely. Even on the body serial number plate, even says "Studebaker Packard corporation". At 3:50
Can't hear you...
