The Grove - Home of the AATTV Advisor
Australia
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 19 ธ.ค. 2022
The Grove holds a special place in the hearts of all the men who served in the AATTV and their families and close friends.
The previous purpose for "The Grove" was the Jungle Warfare Training Centre and it was used to train soldiers from various campaigns. The AATTV soldiers completed their Jungle warfare training before serving in Vietnam.
This is a beautiful restful, peaceful place of significance.
Most of these videos are for historical purposes and to serve as a memory for "The Grove" itself and the men that made up the Australian Army Training Team Vietnam (AATTV)
There will be a time where we can show you videos if the garden as it is now and how it we remember the men of the AATTV.
The videos you will see here are videos of:
- historical training at the sight.
- memorials for the men of the AATTV.
- historical videos of ares in Vietnam where they served.
- New things about "The Grove" as they become available.

The Team: The Australian Army Training Team Vietnam: 1962-1972 (Video recordings of interviews with Australian veterans recorded by Headquarters Training command - Army)
Synopsis: Australian Vietnam veterans interviewed for the documentary 'The Team'. Explores the experiences of jungle warfare specialists who became the Australian Army Training Team Vietnam (AATTV)
Series # A14469
This series consists of video recordings of extended, oral history style interviews of Australian veterans of war, including Australian involvement in the war in the Pacific in World War II, Malaya, the Vietnam War, operations in Afghanistan as well as peacekeeping in Timor Leste. The interviews offer a rich insight into the Australian experience of war and formed the basis for the production of military history documentaries produced by Headquarters Training Command - Army, when based in Georges Heights/Mosman and from 2009, the Army Learning Production Centre as a unit within Forces Command, located in Defence Plaza in the Sydney CBD.
Production of military history documentaries began in 1992 with professional documentary makers commissioned to work with Army audio-visual teams to produce, write, research and direct the documentaries. The documentaries were made for military training and also for public broadcast. Several have been screened on Australian television and all are produced to television broadcast quality. The master tapes of the completed productions are transferred as part of series A7665.
Australian and international television networks have accessed and used segments from these interviews in productions such as the ABC's Australian Story, Australia's Secret Heroes by Joined Up Films and Icon Film's Tom Harrisson: The barefoot anthropologist.
The main format of these records is SP Betacam and Digital Betacam which are the camera tape original, raw footage.
The tapes were stored in-agency in climate controlled conditions from 2002 (18-21 degrees, 35%RH) and arranged according to a unique production number. Camera tapes within each production were numbered sequentially as they were recorded.
Professional transcriptions of many of the interviews are also included as part of this series and are a useful research tool. [As at March 2020 these transcripts are still with the controlling agency]

Hi everyone, here is the full video footage of the AATTV 61st Birthday held at the Kokoda Barracks Sergeants Mess and The Grove at Canungra. We had a slight position problem of the video camera location and once filming started we were unable to move it. It was placed so it would not interfere with channel 9's footage and other people wanting to take photos or video during the service. The foot...

Awesome. 🙏
Back when we were a mob of fit skinny young blokes, not the musclebound tribal tattood one we have today
I find it unusual these days, when I see an Infantry soldier that is not covered in tattoos & who is not muscle-bound or is not carrying a jelly belly. I knew JTC Canungra very well. As well as having to do the three-week course, prior to my two tours of Vietnam in 3RAR, I was posted there from Jan., 1969 to June, 1970.
@@dennismoore1134 It might surprise you gentlemen to learn warfare has evolved since the Vietnam War. Soldiers' carrying load have increased significantly from the handbags these blokes are carrying (and yes, I've carried those particular packs and they fit very little inside them and are enormously uncomfortable). Modern soldiers wear helmets as a matter of course, body armour including ballistic plates, carry night vision gear, up to ten litres of water, individual radios, when required individual electronic counter measures, optics, night aiming devices, and weapon lights just on their firearms and often carry a pistol and its ammunition, not to mention cold weather gear and sleeping systems that were never needed in South East Asia. That requires an increase in a soldier's physical strength. What you are witnessing is the physical evolution of soldiers to meet the demands of their jobs. As for the tattoos, soldiers are a reflection of the society they serve and tattoos are perfectly acceptable, even on women.
@@robertjordan3901 Thank you robertjordan3901, for going to great pains to explain to me what I already knew from my own observations, over a good few years. Of course warfare has evolved as have the weapons, equipment & uniforms that the soldiers use & wear. It is good to see that nowadays the Australian Regular Army is not slow in adapting changes & improvements in such equipment, The soldier at the sharp end can only benefit, unlike in Vietnam, we infantry soldiers were sent over there with backpacks from World War 2 & with the old-fashioned boots & gaiters & were issued with only two water bottles per man. In the heat & humidity of South Vietnam that was pathetically & unmercifully not enough. When I was sent for my second tour, in 3RAR, in 1971, we were issued with four water bottles. An improvement, but still not enough. My statement about tattoos was an observation, not a criticism. If some Digger wants to get tattoos, good luck to him or her. Tattoos have been a part of society for centuries. They have never appealed to me, that's all. My sentence of jelly bellies was a criticism & still is.
He isn't in Australian Infantry. Endurance factors make sure of that. Tattoo's yes, but they have have been part of service life forever including Vietnam. If you are displeased with SF of today them blame the Officers because they are in charge not the enlisted men
Wow, Excellent work. They were an inspiration

Merry Christmas to everyone . I miss my Dad incredibly....
Here's to the 521 Aussies and 37 Kiwis (and 149 Canadians) who fell in Vietnam: At the going down of the Sun and in the morning we will remember them.
Lest We Forget.
My CO at 2/4 RAR dave Rowe makes an appearance
That is so funny how still they were, like they were sizing each other up
I wonder if it is the one with the whiskers a few days before
Cute little critter, I wonder if we will see him again in front of the camera, maybe he will get more courage.
It is lovely to see these videos to see what my dad did while in his service with the AATTV as an advisor. He was awarded a DCM and I am very proud of him.
We are all so proud of all of the AATTV advisors and their service
Be very proud as I am :), best wishes :)
The little sweetly is back again ❤ I wonder if he/she lives near by or if he/she is just foraging.
Good question, we will have to wait and see what Elise we find
I was looking for a furry critter but it was a nice surprise to see a reptile instead ❤
