Frog Graham Round 14/06/23 (take 2)
10 days prior on 30/05/23 I set off on my round in blistering heat with Sarah Meadows and John Mitchell on road support. I thought I’d completed the round in 15 hours and 29 mins… only to realise I’d skirted Sand Hill and went to the wrong High Stile summit. I had to go again and right the wrongs. I set off at 3am on 14/06/23 unsupported. It was still warm but there was a lovely cool breeze all...
Frog Graham Round
30/05/2023 I decided to have a go of the frog. Having completed my Bob in 2019 this seemed like a good little challenge. Love my swimming and fell running and this combined the two. It was a very warm day, so It was also a good run in preparation for the Mont Blanc Marathon. I had hoped to go round in under 15 hours and was doing well at 21 miles and just under 9,000ft in 6hrs. Bit of a nav err...

After been battered for over 9 hours by gale force winds and heavy rain. I approached the foot of Great Gable and had made the decision descending Kirk Fell to call it a day, shivering, cold, wet and defeated. Little did I know a friend and his missus had climbed to the foot of Gable (Beck Head) they had music blurring and Mick Lamb was wearing a Kilian Jornet mask 🤣 Knowing I had already given...

There’s some places on earth god never intended us humans to go.
NOPE!!!
why not just go super mario 64 mode in the panguin cave
When I was a kid, my daily route to school was very similar to this. And I didn't have all this gear, just slippers and a sweater and a backpack with a lunch box.
perfect example of how to arrest yourself and why you need experience before attempting such mountains
Holding his axe the wrong way round almost prevented him from being able to self arrest
Good reaction though
I was there a long time ago, it is really amazing. I did it in summer on a super clear day. Once you get to the end of the ridge you walk across the vallée blanche all the way to Italy with the Mont Blanc to your right and then come back with the cable car. The day we were there a bunch of tourist had ventured on the ridge with no equipment and regular shoes, after about 20 or 30 meters they had stopped and realised they were in terrible danger and didn't dare walking back. We had to walk them back one by one and nobody was hurt. Anybody can go there and nobody controlled anything. You just take the telepheric to the Pic du Midi from Chamonix and you get off near the edge of the ridge. On the left the ridge goes all the way down to Chamonix it is really very very steep and and far. The other side stops after a few hundred meters on the vallée Blanche. I will never forget that day.
If he had fallen screen right and unable to stop the fall , that would have been unpleasant but not so bad. Screen left however , it would have been possibly fatal, as it'a becomes steep very fast, and it's rocky. There is excellent coverage of this area on Google maps.
have to be mentally ill to put yourself in that situation to begin with
there are 2 things everyone who ventures out in the mountains MUST know. crevasse rescue and self arrest
He obviously has much experience. Look at how calm and decisive he acts since he slipped. He punched the hell out of that snowy slope to manage to get a grip.
Where is my son.. He should see how my way to school was before he starts whining of some stupid video games and TV series
Instead of spending money for a gopro, spend it to learn walking on steep snow and to learn self arrest manoever.
Also, non the best place to smile, chat and turn around talking, instead of keeping concentration on what you are doing.
I remember a similar experience when I went hiking in 2020 on muddy terrain and my dumbass was hiking with under armour shoes 😅. That slip is no joke. To get through, I had to reduce my center of gravity and crouch my way along until it was safe.
Hey really i love your Hiking and your teeerking its great pleasure for me to share with you the same moments but toi defferents im.from.south Est morocco and hope Our work developed and givevus new things Welcome and Max ne See u in morocco for good work to gether . Miri 😊😊❤😊😊
😅 🖖🏻😊🏔️🧗🏻♀️❄️
Holding the ice axe the wrong way...
Its always the fucking crampons on the pants
🤢
I nearly had a heart attack watching ❤
Trousers filled 💩
That Ice pick actually saved him
Shows how important it is to use your ice axe on a passage like that.... with poles he would have gone...
The whites never cease to amaze me.
Nah, i'd survive
I'm sure several others have pointed this out, but he's lucky he didn't stab his eyes out, he self arrested using the wrong end of the his axe. Remember kids: Pointy-end in the SNOW, not your FACE. BTW, after further review, you can see he had been holding his axe correctly, but when he stopped to chat he switched hands and was more focused on the conversation than his axe, switched hands without rotating.
Id do that for 5 million views anyday!
Attention click wh0re
❤❤
He is extremely lucky.
He rolled a ankle here. Didn't happen here but for novices it's easy to catch a crampon on a gaiter and stumble, you have to get used to walking on steep slopes with them.
Huh..Sort of missed a step, turned an ankle as he turned around a bit distracted from the conversation
We did this a week ago. With skis on our back! It´s a tricky thing and only thouse who stood up there can appreciate the brave reaction of the guy.
i saw that soft slushy snow made me cringe. Dangerous conditions. Great recovery though
That fall could've caused an avalanche if he'd not recovered it.
Really poor self arrest. Axe should be held with the pick facing rearward and not forward, and who is taught to dig in the adze and not the pick? Lucky for him it was not icy or he would never have stopped himself. Learn some skills!
I remember going down it and back up it in 1992.
I've been on that fucker, and believe me if you slip you are almost certainly gone without an ice axe. If you go over the path without an axe, you are gone. No ifs. I was so scared of that descent, I thought about sitting down to do it, but you can't. You have to stand smart and keep your feet square against the ground at all times and trust your crampons. He obviously caught one of them on his other foot or leg.
shee chair - Aiguille means needle - I was at Chamonix a few years ago so I respect that stuff
I was terrified the first time I walked down that. Passing people coming up is the worst part.
I'm glad that this could NEVER happen to me because I have some self preservation skills and will never be in a situation like that😆
I will never understand people who carry a helmet but don’t wear it
One slide to either side. The speed at at which he will disappear is the speed it will take you to say "ohhhh ohhhh shit"
gopro instead of helmet, loose pickax, "look at all my stuff outside" backpack...
No ropes, pretty stupid.
Survival instinct of a deer
I suffered the same thing. I slipped and fell on my back like a turtle with my skis on my bag. The guide caught me before it was too late
